Can't Access Nexus Mods - Troubleshooting Instructions

If the site is UP but you cant access the page, try one of the below solutions:

Browser Related Problems

Force a full refresh for the site. This can be achieved by pressing CTRL + F5 keys at the same time on your favourite browser (Firefox, Chrome, Explorer, etc.)

Clear the temporary cache and cookies on your browser to make sure that you have the most recent version of the web page. For instructions choose your browser :

Fix DNS Problems

A Domain Name System (DNS) allows a site IP address (192.168.x.x) to be identified with words (*.com) in order to be remembered more easily, like a phonebook for websites. This service is usually provided by your ISP.

Clear your local DNS cache to make sure that you grab the most recent cache that your ISP has. For Windows - (Start > Command Prompt > type "ipconfig /flushdns" and hit enter). For details choose your operating system :

If you can access a website at office or from a 3G network yet it's not working on your computer, it is a good idea to use an alternative DNS service other than your ISPs. OpenDNS or Google Public DNS are both excellent and free public DNS services.

Check our help page for step-by-step instructions on how to change your DNS.

Been seeing a lot of complaints about nexusmods still being down...

June 10th

Simon Wakefield · 23 July 2014 - 13:35
United Kingdom · Virgin Media · Chrome 36.0 on Windows

Nexus Mods down again. I think I am going to download every Skyrim mod I even remotely like the look of (when it comes back up) and just use NMM to sort them. This has to be the most unreliable download site I ever came across.

Terry Yanto · 15 July 2014 - 22:04
United States · Comcast Cable · Firefox 30.0 on Windows

As some have said before, I literally think that the Nexus is run on "potatoes". I feel as if they are down every couple hours. Even with all the talk of "improving servers", they need to really think ahead and think about future problems,

Steven Good · 12 July 2014 - 08:55

the Nexus needs to stop going down... i need to update some damn mods!!!

Bryon Jones · 11 July 2014 - 20:29

i think it is going to be down for 3 hours maybe it will stay up more then 30 minutes after they get done.

Yeah, can we choose to do the once-per-week 3 hour downtime instead? At least we can plan for it.

Bryon Jones · 11 July 2014 - 15:50
United States · AT&T U-verse · Chrome 35.0 on Windows

Site is up, but downloads don't work

"because 5 minutes of maintenance mode is better than 3 hours of down-time" except it never is just 5 minutes.

Rick Nieuwenhuis · 11 July 2014 - 15:09

Just when my Skyrim installation crashed and i lost the 75 mods i had installed, Nexusmods goes down so i can not re-download said mods overnight... owh woe is me.

Brian Scott Ellis · 11 July 2014 - 15:06
United States · Comcast Cable · Firefox 30.0 on Windows

Honestly this gets kind of old. For several weeks now we've been getting total crap response times from the site, then in the last week or so it seems to be down every 30 minutes or so.

Carson Sagar · 11 July 2014 - 13:16
Canada · Xplornet Communications · Chrome 35.0 on Windows

Nexus Mods needs a script running on their website that it sends a popup window explaining that it will be down in 10 minutes or so. Would be very appropriated by the community.

Heather Overson · 11 July 2014 - 13:15

This site's down for an hour every 15 minutes it seems. The mod manager is infinitely better than the Workshop, but at least Steam's reliable.

Grr... just after doing fresh install of skyrim. SoB. Also, not a marketing ploy. i am premium and it's down for me too. calm down guys probably just maintenence. Can't expect the site to always be available. every game and every website needs constant maintenence.

Andrew Pike · 8 July 2014 - 14:38

Three things are probably happening right now
1. Server maintenance (which they should have sent a message to all users telling them that the site will be inaccessible)
2. Too much traffic or volume of people coming in and downloading
3. someone must have hack the website probably because he or she is upset with the site's overall performance or treatment of the users so right now the servers are shut down to prevent anymore outbreaks

I have been very lucky but for the last couple of days when downloading mods, when installing sounds of skyrim (with nmm) it says I am missing some marriage mod may be it's related to the wedding march ...! & the nexus report process is 'a MAZE ing' in the worst sense

Matthew Sykes · 23 June 2014 - 07:28

I've been on nexus mods for a while now to know to change the download method. Either that or add option that allows to choose severs I download from. Most of the auto download chooses severs that crash and don't download my file. I try again, same sever, same crash. And there's been more "No severs at this time :(". I don't like where this site is going. I advise going back to normal downloading method.

@ Dominic

No. You use a site like nexus simply to browse, DL and install (if using NMM) a mod. Beyond that process, once installed, the files are on your PC and accessible when the game tries to use said files.

I can't speak for modding of Fallout games, typically I only mod Skyrim. But the process should be the same. If you are experiencing an issue with CTD, try disabling any new mods you installed since your last working startup of Fallout. If that does not work, disable _ALL_ mods, re-enable one by one (or a few at a time) and boot up your game until you discover which one is causing the issue.

Joseph Creamer · 25 January 2014 - 17:47
United States · AT&T U-verse

people rage because they expect the service they are told exists to be provided and to function properly. they have plenty of paying members, myself included to keep the servers up and running smoothly. we all see posts all the time about how they are "working to make a better service, stability, and experience", well if they are spending even half the time they claim they are then they have no clue at all what they are doing. i know children with better upkeeping capabilities. and the only real alternative is steamworkshop which is also godawful. that leaves loverlab which is not usefull at all. unless you want tits in your game.

Johann Thorsteinsson · 25 January 2014 - 14:29

Joseph Edward Young · 21 January 2014 - 19:51

im so glad i quit paying for thire bullshit site, they banned 90 percent of the mod authors that was good over thire nexuscop syndrome. and skyrim is the last moddable elder scrolls game anyway. the site will die within 2 years due to poor server managment, banning every moder that dont agree to worship them and postes mods on steam workshop or even says they like steam workshop better. they call free members leeches and give them horrible treatment and slow pspeeds and bann them if they dont buy a membership atleast once a year.and chooses to not support skyrim nexus posting a child porn mod where you can strip and murder kids even decap. they are a bad site with only a few good moders left and they are leaving it soon too due to all the banning of thire freinds. nexus broke the world record for small time websites that is always got the most downtime in history of webpages.

Jaxon Fischer, there is no reason why anybody should have to lay off the site. That's what the site is for. just needs to upgrade their hardware. If they want to try to have a monopoly over all mods Skyrim, Fallout, etc, then they need to back it up with servers that can actually handle above normal loads.

David Sarmiento De La Peña, it absolutely is the fault of the site. They want to be the big dogs that host all these mods, then they need to upgrade their hardware so their servers can handle the traffic. It's really as simple as that.
