Can't Access HostMonster - Troubleshooting Instructions

If the site is UP but you cant access the page, try one of the below solutions:

Browser Related Problems

Force a full refresh for the site. This can be achieved by pressing CTRL + F5 keys at the same time on your favourite browser (Firefox, Chrome, Explorer, etc.)

Clear the temporary cache and cookies on your browser to make sure that you have the most recent version of the web page. For instructions choose your browser :

Fix DNS Problems

A Domain Name System (DNS) allows a site IP address (192.168.x.x) to be identified with words (*.com) in order to be remembered more easily, like a phonebook for websites. This service is usually provided by your ISP.

Clear your local DNS cache to make sure that you grab the most recent cache that your ISP has. For Windows - (Start > Command Prompt > type "ipconfig /flushdns" and hit enter). For details choose your operating system :

If you can access a website at office or from a 3G network yet it's not working on your computer, it is a good idea to use an alternative DNS service other than your ISPs. OpenDNS or Google Public DNS are both excellent and free public DNS services.

Check our help page for step-by-step instructions on how to change your DNS.

I have been a customer of Hostmonster for last 5-6 years. Most of the time their service is pretty good. Yes anytime it is down can be irritating. However just a few minutes service down should not be the cause of getting out. I am sure they will get it up. Have patience.

So glad to have read all the negative and true comments about Hostmonster. As someone suggested, I will definitely not be renewing, and I pity anyone who renews, or even signs up newly.

They have become irritatinly useless in recent times, with problem after problem, with tech support based in India (or heaven knows where) who don't seem to have brains to understand what you are talking about them when you are speaking to them, and constantly trying to upsel you some crap, in the midst of the problem they are having. Worse, my site recently got hacked.

No doubt this is the end of them. I sineerely hope so anyway. so noone else is ever unlucky to sign up with them and endure this crap.

Those at HostMonster must've been enjoying all the sunshine today. The forecast is sun tomorrow too ... why don't you all take another day off, your customers don't need to make money.

I've noticed that their reliability is decreasing over the last months, my webmail entry page is reported as an attack webpage ... and now a bad gateway when trying to get to their homepage.

Whoever reads this post, I would suggest, upon your next renewal prompt, that you find another webhost, like I will be doing ... these issues should be a thing of the past - or dare I say, better planning from professionals so downtime doesn't occur.

Maybe it's time to do some re-hiring ... there'll be college kids graduating soon, time for some new blood.

... tick, tock.

Is anyone else having issues with webmail? It looks like Hostmonster reconfigured the webmail log in page within the last week, so now once you log in to your email, the page is partially cut off at the bottom so there are no arrows to scroll through the pages of your email. Have tried on different computers, different webmail options (Horde and RoundCube), Firefox, and IE...all the same problem.

Kris Todd · 23 December 2015 - 14:47
· · Firefox 43.0 on Windows

@MarkDMoss - there was a KNOWN server issue on server 416 around the week of Thankgiving that took 8 days to fix. We were advise to move to VPS at that point, which we did. Others on server 416 were also affected.

Mark D. Moss · 23 December 2015 - 13:55
· · Firefox 43.0 on Windows

@Kris Todd ... absolute NONSENSE. If your site was down for 8 days "right around Thanksgiving", it had nothing to do with Hostmonster. I run 3 web sites hosted by HM, and they were ALL very busy, and working great right through that period.

Kris Todd · 23 December 2015 - 13:49
· · Firefox 43.0 on Windows

This is the second MAJOR outage in the last month. Shame on you, Hostmonster. My site was down the better part of 8 days around Thanksgiving, and now a complete and total outage. Who offers relible hosting? I moved to VPS this month, but even that can't overcome a complete system outage as is going on this morning.

Mark D. Moss · 23 December 2015 - 13:49
· · Firefox 43.0 on Windows

Hostmonster had an outage that lasted *LESS THAN AN HOUR* ... pinheads calling it "shameful" need to get their perspectives in order

To quote a wise man, here's what I wrote *5* years ago:

OK. It *is* a supreme PIA to have our web site down ... but the whining here is ridiculous. I've been a Hostmonster client for 7-8 years, and while there have been issues of one flavor or another every once in a blue moon, the honest analysis is that if this outage is the worst occurrence for the next 7-8 years we should all be very happy. Be real. Is there *any* such service that could honestly promise that an hour-or-so outage will *NEVER* happen? Of course not.

Hostmonster seems to be completely down this morning! I can't access my website, email, Admin panel, or CPanel. I keep getting "bad gateway" or "untrusted connection" messages. Even their phone service is down. What is going on Hostmonster??!!

Kris Todd · 9 December 2015 - 20:29
· · Firefox 39.0 on Windows

ChL Lila - The move resulted in a few glitches that they were able to quickly help fix. Just walk through your site after the move and make a list of anything that does not work properly. With VPS, you get a different (and in my opinion, better!) level of support. Good luck!

Chl Lila · 9 December 2015 - 17:26

Kris Todd · 9 December 2015 - 16:41

This is our busiest time of the year, and we can't afford to lose any more sales due to unreliable hosting. In desperation, I moved off of Server 416 this morning to a VPS (took about 2 hours for them to complete the migration). If this doesn't fix the problem, time to find a new host company.

Chl Lila · 9 December 2015 - 14:15

Have had our sites and clients sites more or less down for 24 hours now. No explanation other than about 23 hours ago they said they were working on the problem. The least they could do is put something up on their site explaining what is going on and what they are doing about it.

Greg Beddor · 26 November 2015 - 00:51

Here you go, Bluehost is confirming it's a DNS issue, and they are working on pushing the email through. If you didn't know Bluehost, HostGator & Hostmonster are all the same. If you have a site hosted there and are using Gmail services for mail, chances are your emails aren't working properly right now!

I haven't been able to access email at all since before 11AM Pacific Time. My website is also down. Hostmonster's outage checker says there is no outage and that my website and email are fine, I 'm waiting on hold to talk to a person about it. No email all day is a huge problem for my business. I'm hoping all of the emails sent to me come in when they finally fix it. I'll be totally screwed if they are lost.

If you are unable to access your website, please try to pull up your site over your phone using your phone provider's network (Not WiFi) or a different connection. OR try to connect to it through If it comes up on your alternate connection or the provided link then your DNS is currently cached with your ISP for you but your site is still being served to the world. This will clear up throughout the day.

Hostmonster has been great, until last night at 3:00 AM (November 25th) when it went down and is still not up and running. All sites down (78 of them on this account) and ready to switch away from them within the next hour, since I am preparing for Black Friday and cannot have this happening. Have 9 accounts with Hostmonster and even there own website is having problems trying to access it. Fortunately for me I have several accounts with other web hosts that are currently up and running just fine. My hostmonster is not working. Is not letting me sign in from anywhere and not even able to access their .com. Ugh. Frustrating! No email. On hold through their 801 phone # as their free # wouldn't go through. 10 min wait so far.

Unable to open up Hostmonster on any computer or smart phone, is the site Up or Down, need to get a defiant answer. Checked FB page nothing there, left a message.

Any issues I have had with hostmonster whether be my fault or theirs have been resolved quickly and with really friendly service. As long as hostmonster continues to draw breath... i'm with them.

Would anyone consider goDaddy? I just looked at their prices for VPS and it looks good. I'm done with HM.

Still on hold 2 + hrs & counting... 10 of my VPS Hostmonster sites down--now pointing sites to alternate dns's... Cloudfare caching working ... Is the network connectivity going to be resolved in 1 hour or 1 week? Just need to get an idea so we can execute a workaround.

The router issue was yesterday, now it seems the Data Center IP Table got corrupted and servers were assigned different IPs.

I assume we are waiting for our servers to get their correct IPs. So some websites will work and others that are not on the same IP assignment are not yet restored... what a mess!

it seems hostmonster is more worried about there twitter account then ours

My Hostmonster account has been down over 21 hours. I phoned the help line yesterday, waited for 45 minutes, and the tech could not hear my phone call. My first phone call this morning, I waited over an hour, and finally gave up. My second phone call, an hour later, and all I get is a busy signal.

My VPS account is down as well, all day. But in defense of Hostmonster, this is the first time this is happened in over 5 months. Which IMO is pretty damn good considering their track record.

Of course the day they suddenly go down and none of the techs know what's up, when the site goes live, it has a total redesign.

I AM IN THE MIDDLE OF A FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN. I need to put the donate button on my website. It has been down alllllllll day. This is costing me funding... please fix it for good this time. This has happened two other times that I know of this year.

I just talked with support and the tech confirmed that none of the admins have any idea of why this issue is happening. He said it's the same issue that happened in August and again in January, which now makes 3 major outages in less than a year. He said it was odd that the company hasn't looked into redundancy for this continued failure, and that it's perplexing to him. He suggested it could be many more hours, if not all the way into tomorrow.
