Can't Access Nest - Troubleshooting Instructions

If the site is UP but you cant access the page, try one of the below solutions:

Browser Related Problems

Force a full refresh for the site. This can be achieved by pressing CTRL + F5 keys at the same time on your favourite browser (Firefox, Chrome, Explorer, etc.)

Clear the temporary cache and cookies on your browser to make sure that you have the most recent version of the web page. For instructions choose your browser :

Fix DNS Problems

A Domain Name System (DNS) allows a site IP address (192.168.x.x) to be identified with words (*.com) in order to be remembered more easily, like a phonebook for websites. This service is usually provided by your ISP.

Clear your local DNS cache to make sure that you grab the most recent cache that your ISP has. For Windows - (Start > Command Prompt > type "ipconfig /flushdns" and hit enter). For details choose your operating system :

If you can access a website at office or from a 3G network yet it's not working on your computer, it is a good idea to use an alternative DNS service other than your ISPs. OpenDNS or Google Public DNS are both excellent and free public DNS services.

Check our help page for step-by-step instructions on how to change your DNS.

Down again. Using iPhone 6 with iOS 9.0. Haven't been able to access since trying at 6:00AM. I use Swann remote cameras which are working properly at the same remote location as my nest t-stat and connects. The reliability of nest cloud access is getting worse. My Swann ip cameras rarely go down. They can remotely pan rt to left and up to down. I am so glad I didn't go with the drop cam.

Sunday Sept. 20th, 2015. Tried turning on the furnace this morning with my iPhone 6. The Nest App says the Nest server is down. So I tried my Android Tablet with the same results. I checked th Nest thermostat and it indicates Nest is online. Fortunately, I was able to turn on the furnace from the Nest wall thermostat! We are in the 40's this mor ing in Southeast, MI. What's lame is that the camera SHOULD STILL WORK when THEIR service is down. It should have been desigend so it can still stream over your own home network. Why do they insist on sending the stream to their servers first?

Bruce Janke · 13 September 2015 - 20:14

I use the camera and app to monitor my town babies. It's totally unreliable now. This happens way too often. I don't know what Nest did when they took over from Dropcam but it worked perfectly for over a year. Now it's a useless product as it's not reliable at all. I've emailed them for a refund.

Jacques Dubois · 13 September 2015 - 19:46
· · Safari 8.0.8 on Mac

This is happening more and more often with Nest....I have no issue with the server to my thermostats being offline, but my cameras? Tha's a problem. REALLY glad I returned the Nest Protect smoke detectors. Here's a thought Google/Nest - you want to be part of the "internet of things" then understand the up time needs to be 100% of the's called redundancy.

Jeffrey Norton · 13 September 2015 - 19:35

First, the nest TS went down last week and I had to conect it manually to the network. Then it went out of the network and would not detect any wifi networks at all. I tried factory reset through nest menu with no resolution. Week passed and after finding out to do factory reset by pressing and holding the faceplate for several seconds it did the trick. I had to go and repeat all the settings but I have wifi working and it is connected to my router and the internet. I try to log into my account to finish the setup and the is down. Complete crap!. It did work flawlessly for the past couple of years and now this??? WTF??

have had 2 dropcams for a year and little to no issue, these are used as a baby monitor so very important they work. Then 3 days after im forced to update to the Nest app they arent working, for what i paid for these you think they would work on my internal network at a minimum instead of the upload/download crap they do.

Thomas R Gohring · 8 September 2015 - 02:54

Brad Bushman · 8 September 2015 - 02:39
· · Chrome 45.0 on Windows has been down for me all day and most of yesterday... just installed the Nest thermostat yesterday in a seasonal home. John Cohen · 8 September 2015 - 02:38

Max Lion · 8 September 2015 - 02:32

Nest needs to get their act together. They want to take over your home but they can't keep their damn site up to monitor anything. Complete BS

Lisa Poseley · 8 September 2015 - 02:23
· · Safari 8.0 on iPad

Ever since Nest took over the app is often useless and it cannot keep a connection. In over a year I've never had it fail like it has been lately. Unacceptable for home and nursery use and this price.

Amy Faller Crafton · 8 September 2015 - 02:15
· · Safari 8.0 on iPhone

Ugh. This has become a fee
Quentin issue and it's ALWAYS at night. That's a big problem for me since I use my 2 dropcams as baby monitors.

Jacqueline Fowler · 8 September 2015 - 01:37
· · Chrome 45.0 on Windows

It is down for me. Also saying my password and email don't match. I have been on serveral times today to check dropcam and it worked.

Rudolph Jamrock · 8 September 2015 - 01:35

One would think that instead of connecting to the nest through the internet that connecting to it direct through the home network would be an option. WTH

Andrew Rotariu · 8 September 2015 - 01:35

Overpriced, unreliable crap. I'll be looking forward to replacing this with a Z-Wave thermostat as soon as possible.

Nest thermostat showing a "?" and that it last connected more than six hours ago. This time I can at least get to, yet only to view the question mark. If it is not back up in a couple hours, I'll try rebooting the Apple Airport Extreme, etc. This is the first time this has happened since purchasing the unit. It has always connected, even through changes in routers it was flawless.

when will we have an app, that we can put on our home computers to emulate the nest "server". All a nest server is, is a server, which updates your dynamic ip, from your internet provider. So your devices can connect to your nest thermostate. Look at dynamic ip software. Same thing.
