We have tried pinging Meetup website using our server and the website returned the above results. If meetup.com is down for us too there is nothing you can do except waiting. Probably the server is overloaded, down or unreachable because of a network problem, outage or a website maintenance is in progress...

Can't Access Meetup - Troubleshooting Instructions

If the site is UP but you cant access the page, try one of the below solutions:

Browser Related Problems

Force a full refresh for the site. This can be achieved by pressing CTRL + F5 keys at the same time on your favourite browser (Firefox, Chrome, Explorer, etc.)

Clear the temporary cache and cookies on your browser to make sure that you have the most recent version of the web page. For instructions choose your browser :

Fix DNS Problems

A Domain Name System (DNS) allows a site IP address (192.168.x.x) to be identified with words (*.com) in order to be remembered more easily, like a phonebook for websites. This service is usually provided by your ISP.

Clear your local DNS cache to make sure that you grab the most recent cache that your ISP has. For Windows - (Start > Command Prompt > type "ipconfig /flushdns" and hit enter). For details choose your operating system :

If you can access a website at office or from a 3G network yet it's not working on your computer, it is a good idea to use an alternative DNS service other than your ISPs. OpenDNS or Google Public DNS are both excellent and free public DNS services.

Check our help page for step-by-step instructions on how to change your DNS.

very sophisticated DDoS attack. must be from a botnet or a team of users. outsouring security to CloudFlare is a rookie mistake. they were not ready to get pinged to death. some disgruntled Introvert must have been to a very disappointing meetup hahaha

Emmy - Well given that nature of Meetup I would hope that the powers of be investigate this and close down who ever may have caused this because they have no right to be on the worldwide web causing such distress to so many people who try and bring people together - Its disgusting! As for that other company $5 a year to be a member - joke I think ...will never gain the membership that Meet Up have even with this disruption...

Julie Wilson · 1 March 2014 - 17:20

I was able to access Meetup briefly today and noticed, interestingly, that someone (not in my group) left a comment for my newest member asking her to leave my group to "co-host something" with her. I thought it was very odd. I've never seen that before.

Andrea Jones -- I'll say it again: While I may not agree with every decision SociGroups has made, they are run by good people who would never do something like this. Really.

I do wonder who *is* behind this bizarre attack. Even those of us who are sometimes critical of Meetup don't want it taken offline. I hope Meetup can get to the root of this attack, stop the attackers, and if possible prosecute them. ;-)

Baby Boomers,
Welcome to Future Shock!

If we have another Denial of Service Attack, simply switch over to my BLOG:

VISIT: http://www.crafts2press.blogspot.com/#THINGS

I'm currently in the process of developing a way for you to RSVP to a specific event - via email on my 'Things to do' page. Listing all Baby Boomers who have selected RSVP for a specific event is another matter.

Until then, currently, there is a pass thru by selecting 'read more...' on each event - that will hyperlink you to our Baby Boomer MeetUp page - if it is working.

According to Meetup's Twitter feed, they're under another DDoS attack. I guess this CoudFlare thing that they're using to avoid such attacks wasn't strong enough? I wonder who's attacking them and if we'll ever know. In any event, this was their tweet as of a few minutes ago:
"Unfortunately, Meetup is under denial of service (DDoS) attack again. Our team is investigating and fighting back."

Peter J Schouten · 1 March 2014 - 05:44

This is nuts!!! It's amazing how dependent we are on technology in our day to day lives. Remember Y2K and how much effort companies were putting into securing their sites in case of possible meltdown? What happens if something happens to our major sites that we need to survive? The world will stop spinning.

I can't get in again even though this site says its up. Something is still wrong with the site regardless of being up or down. I was getting around 50 new members a week and now nothing for a few days.

http://tmblr.co/ZEejyw18lwr2V as of 39 minutes ago ! " Meetup’s Service Outage

On Thursday morning, Meetup suffered a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack, which resulted in a service outage for our website and our apps. Organizer and member data is secure, including credit card information. No data has been accessed or stolen.

In a DDoS attack, a bad actor overwhelms the site with traffic with the explicit goal of causing servers to crash. That’s exactly what happened in our case.

Our engineers are working urgently to resolve the issue, and the website and the apps may be intermittently unavailable. We know this is a major inconvenience.

The Meetup community exists because all of you keep showing up. We will continue to work hard behind the scenes to make Meetup a safe and secure platform for organizers and members. We can’t thank you enough for being a part of it."

I have been having good luck getting through today through there twitter page. Remember people, this is not something Meetup is doing to you. This is something that SOMEONE IS DOING TO THEM! Very interesting to me how many other companies are coming to this and other pages and telling us to try their companies. I have been on Meetup for 5 or 6 years now. Yes, I get angry at them when they change things without talking to their organizers but that is not what is happening here. My phone app has been working most of yesterday.

At least they are updating their Twitter feed. Their Facebook page hasn't been updated since October of last year.

Meetup website had some issue from FEB .23th .2014 also, and photo upload was not showing even after it was uploaded and was coming back later, they didn't send any e-mail notification, for maintenance warning, and who they have meet up in these hours will be in trouble, I hope 13.4 million members in 196 countries as they said can meet again.!

Just got a Twitter message from Meetup.com: "Meetup is currently under DDoS attack. Our services may be up/down intermittently as we seek to restore full functionality."

It is a DNS problem: the site responds if you use the IP http://38.123.132.30 Probably some kind of redirection issue.

I thought it was just me... I have a new meetup group that was JUST announced and I've been promoting the crap out of it (have 200 visits in the last 5 days) and now I can't even access the site. What the hell.

We are organizing a meetup to fund the US 36 privatization Lawsuit and posted the fundraising meetup just before all of meetup went down. I wonder if it is a hacker attack by Goldman Sachs on meetup to stop the word going out on the lawsuit. Feel free to friend me on facebook!
