Can't Access NBCNews - Troubleshooting Instructions

If the site is UP but you cant access the page, try one of the below solutions:

Browser Related Problems

Force a full refresh for the site. This can be achieved by pressing CTRL + F5 keys at the same time on your favourite browser (Firefox, Chrome, Explorer, etc.)

Clear the temporary cache and cookies on your browser to make sure that you have the most recent version of the web page. For instructions choose your browser :

Fix DNS Problems

A Domain Name System (DNS) allows a site IP address (192.168.x.x) to be identified with words (*.com) in order to be remembered more easily, like a phonebook for websites. This service is usually provided by your ISP.

Clear your local DNS cache to make sure that you grab the most recent cache that your ISP has. For Windows - (Start > Command Prompt > type "ipconfig /flushdns" and hit enter). For details choose your operating system :

If you can access a website at office or from a 3G network yet it's not working on your computer, it is a good idea to use an alternative DNS service other than your ISPs. OpenDNS or Google Public DNS are both excellent and free public DNS services.

Check our help page for step-by-step instructions on how to change your DNS.

I have been an avid of Comcast home page for years. I am using a brand new pc and the NBC news is garbage with nothing but pictures to look at and articles that take longer than dial up wen American Online came out. Who ever designed it should be fired. After all these years I now go to Yahoo News to get info. Comcast you need to pull NBC executives in and tell them to redesign there garbage or fire them all.

Congratulations on deciding to push tons of streaming ad content from the top-level and sub pages. You've turned my laptop's i5 processor into a space heater, devoured my wifi bandwidth, and made it nearly impossible to read a complete article without a several-minute stall. If you're still streaming auto-streaming ad content by Monday (6/2), I'll be looking to DrudgeReport for news.

Day two of a blank white screen at all NBCNews.com sites. March 12, 2014

Bring back to old nbc news. I can read---honestly. I don't need to look at pictures.

I can not get any thing but a index no stories to display. This has been going for a long time.

Craig Hjorth · 28 February 2014 - 16:49

I agree with most of the folks here. The new website is very slow sometimes taking 45 seconds to load pages. Just now it took 90 seconds to load the main page. I went over to Yahoo and it loads pages in ½ sec or less and I am running a high end HP workstation with a $1, 200 graphics card and have high speed internet. To be diplomatic, their new format sucks and they need to fire the incompetent idiot that implemented this piece of crap. After many years I changed my home news page to Yahoo.

Cannot get on at all so far after trying a couple of hours. Blank page. Steps suggested above (remove individual cookies) did not work. What's up NBC?

Leonard J Forbes · 13 February 2014 - 08:30

Have not been able to access nbcnews.com. Having trouble on all computers in the house. Has been going on and off for several days. Other sites work well.

Paul Hefferon · 8 February 2014 - 08:39

New design. Can't navigate w Windows Vista and IE9. When I finally got to a page, it was terrible. They are using a Windows 8 style tile look, I guess to attract more mobile users. Sure enough, looked at it on the Iphone and it works fine. Ir still sucks though because you have to scroll endlessly through photo tiles to see articles. No way to quickly cull through the chaff. I assume they think the loss of PC users will be offset by the mobile user gain. Maybe, but I doubt it.

Jan Cronin · 5 February 2014 - 12:14

This site has been my go to site for new for ages. Not any more. I doubt if they'll change it back for people that are unhappy. :( Goodbye, MSNBC...

James C. Aker · 5 February 2014 - 10:27

I finally got there using MS IE. Not worth the effort. They have taken a really useful news website and reduced it to point and click pictures al la Windows 8 garbage. I'm done with it. Time to fin a new news outlet.

Randall Johnson · 5 February 2014 - 09:25

I found a post indicating they've redesigned their page radically to suit mobile users. Glad it's working for somebody?? Back to News.yahoo for my homepage, I guess.

Jay Press · 5 February 2014 - 09:18
United States · AT&T U-verse

Another idiot decided to "shake things up" and change the webpage and make it look like Windows 8. Trendy garbage with simplicity gone. After 10 years, it's time to switch home pages.

Bill Barker · 5 February 2014 - 09:13

Down in Philadelphia since last night. On Safari and an iMac

Mick Frazine · 5 February 2014 - 08:53

Was able to get it to open on Chrome. They redesigned the website and it is horrible!! Absolutely horrible!! It's all disjointed, mixed up. A long scrolling front page with oversized pictures. you have to scroll to find a text link to click on. Looks like some kid designed it. Who at NBC thought this was a good idea??!! Too bad they don't have a button to click to go back to the former layout. Hope someone at NBC wises up fast and dumps this new design.

Can't reach www.nbcnews.com this afternoon but can reach it (sort of) at http://50.204.7.20/#headline. Clearly a DNS issue, but perhaps only for some ISP's.

Heddie Swanson · 23 January 2014 - 10:34

Cannot reach nbc news on internet explorer either.

Nancy Grogan-Ehat · 23 January 2014 - 07:42

As per Hal Scheinberg, the site is reachable using IP:50.204.7.20, NOT the URL.

Hal Scheinberg · 23 January 2014 - 07:22
United States · Comcast Cable

DNS issue. Can reach by IP: 50.204.7.20

Craig Adams · 20 November 2013 - 06:26
United States · AT&T Internet Services

The main page appears to be up- but links to stories (oddly, not videos) result in "server not found" errors. Other sites are reachable and working, so NBC is still suffering a problem I initially experienced last night. This site was once quite stable- but it was called MSNBC at that point, and administered with competence.

Dean Kelley · 8 November 2013 - 12:59

It may be *responding*, but it's main page is NOT what is supposed to be. No pics, no text, bunch of links on a dark background. Earlier, just no pics. Now, almost nothing. They removed my comment on their facebook page with no comment.

Sl Ross · 6 September 2013 - 04:42

Getting a redirect error... page won't load at all.

Wind Chapman · 2 July 2013 - 02:03

nbcnews has been down for about 12 hours for me. I can't even get any links to news stories to load. It is the only site I can't get to.

Pat O'Connor · 17 February 2013 - 07:52
·

Very poor formatting. "Older" and "newer" buttons were added and now the social media buttons are in the middle of the page obscuring the text and there are no page margins. It's bad enough that the headlines are frequently misspelled, but now the stories are hard to read.

Alba Iris Collado Garcia · 5 February 2013 - 17:03

Yes its down since yesterday. Won´t load at all.

The only site I cannot access is nbcnews.com. I've tried all the suggestions above and still can't. Right in the middle of the debate last night it started again (off and on problems since last week) and I haven't been able to access it since.

exactly the same as the comment above - nothing will open.

Brett McQuigg · 18 September 2012 - 21:38

I am slowly loosing all functionality on nbcnews.com. First it wouldn't let me access comments, and now I can't click anything at all on the site.
