Can't Access MSN - Troubleshooting Instructions

If the site is UP but you cant access the page, try one of the below solutions:

Browser Related Problems

Force a full refresh for the site. This can be achieved by pressing CTRL + F5 keys at the same time on your favourite browser (Firefox, Chrome, Explorer, etc.)

Clear the temporary cache and cookies on your browser to make sure that you have the most recent version of the web page. For instructions choose your browser :

Fix DNS Problems

A Domain Name System (DNS) allows a site IP address (192.168.x.x) to be identified with words (*.com) in order to be remembered more easily, like a phonebook for websites. This service is usually provided by your ISP.

Clear your local DNS cache to make sure that you grab the most recent cache that your ISP has. For Windows - (Start > Command Prompt > type "ipconfig /flushdns" and hit enter). For details choose your operating system :

If you can access a website at office or from a 3G network yet it's not working on your computer, it is a good idea to use an alternative DNS service other than your ISPs. OpenDNS or Google Public DNS are both excellent and free public DNS services.

Check our help page for step-by-step instructions on how to change your DNS.

I haven't been able to get into my list of contacts for two days. Now, when I go to create a new message, my list of contacts won't come up. Also, this is a recurring problem, the font on everything all of a sudden changes to a large font. It has nothing to do with my changing any of my settings.

MSN will not let me use my curser to do searches from curser any more, what happened? Are they revamping the site without telling anybody? Also MSN will not let me post comments anymore without using an cellphone witch I do not own as I use VOIP only (MAGIC JACK+) as an phone.

i was at a clients house today and because I'm lazy/dyslexic I like short URLs for testing. needless to say MSN is pretty short and well it didn't work.
it loaded up in Internet Explorer and said something along the lines of "a need to enter a captcha" and everything was branded in "bing.com" but the URL still said "MSN.com". I tried loading using "HTTPS" but got an certificate error.

so i jumped over to my iPad on the same network. and using a third-party browser came up with the random number string with either native user agent or Internet Explorer user agent.

This was on frontier DSL.
got home, same iPad, i reload and it loaded.
at home I have AT&T cellular.

Dear MSN Defenders – I am also having problems with the My MSN servers. I have been able to search the Internet enough to understand that this is an MSN issue.

However, one would think that MSN would make it known that there is a problem to their users, which has not been the case. Many of us have spent extra time today trying to figure out that it was an MSN issue and not something wrong with our PCs.

I believe that is the frustration that is emanating through these comments. It is not that the website is down, it is just that they refused to broadcast it leading people to waste time.

They should have a front-page announcement on MSN telling users that they are down and will resolved the problem as soon as possible. The silence is interpreted as uncaring and arrogant. After all if this was my business I would have put it in big bold letters so that my users would not waste time and could come back later when it is fixed. They have not done this and that is their crime.

I was aware. In August some concerned Canadian posted, in a MSN community forum, that MSN intended to shut down My MSN in Canada, in October.

You came back with a comment and edited my post. That's fine. But inaccurate. The point being that MSN has stated an intent to shut down a MSN market. Your assertion that the US is the "main" market is also inaccurate.

There is nothing I've seen that says protest prevented that from happening. Maybe it was just delayed until 11/6/13? Maybe in doing that, they accidently also affected thousands of US users? Maybe it didn't go perfectly. Maybe they were trying to help the federal healthcare fiasco, at the same time.

Dan, Dan, Dan... maybe, maybe, maybe.

As if it meant anything, to begin with. Maybe it does and probably it doesn't.

Once the lights and heat go out. after a storm, everyone in the blackout is screaming "when are they going to fix it!!!?

And once theirs comes back on, they do not care. Not about anyone else, at any rate.

Not unless a loved one is still blacked out.

I, for one, do care. I'd like to understand the blackout, and the storm, and how to stay out of such things or cope with them better.

Rich jokers buy generators - then stand in line at gas stations. The richer ones have a gas truck waiting. Those with the intel, do it all and fly to the tropical island before the storm hits.

And Dan -

If you'd read more carefully (accurately) you would've seen that the Canadian guy WAS talking about "My MSN."

Just saying.

Be well - we're all in this together.

To Roger Prescott
WTF? You posted a comment that was responding to the Canadian MSN site closing--not my.msn.com--without explanation to that effect. I clarified. Keep your insane conspiracy theories and cryptic babble to yourself--I just politely filled in the information you omitted. Sheesh.

Roger Prescott:
"This is from a MSN Community posting from August. Anybody see a lightbulb coming on over their head?
I use MSN My Page. Why will it be discontinued? "

Roger--they are referring to the CANADIAN version of my.msn. That version was scheduled to be discontinued for technical reasons in October probably having to do with the Canadian servers but the discontinuation got cancelled after public outcry.

There is absolutely no indication from MS that they plan to cancel the main American site.

Mine is back. No messing with compatibility - guess MSN got sobered up.

Now, this thread is dead and all the wisdom written will be sucked into the toilet called cyberspace. But it was great while it lasted. Guess I'll go replace that bottle of Scotch... Hello? Hello? (tap-tap) Anybody there?

Thank you Harry Howard. Compatibility worked for me.It is good to see it back I have had it for so long and was really missing it. Who would have believed it was something so simple.

Tom Testi - Have you tried refreshing the page, on your cell phone?

Your cell can save the last time you used it on your cell phone, and this cached page appears from before the event.

If, however, you have refreshed (or gone to a link and back to it) and you get your full page again - then you are truly blessed by God (MSN) and it's a miracle!!!

That would be why it is. Amen.

This is from Microsoft:

To enrich your user experience through new features, functionality and design, MSN is currently migrating all existing My MSN users to the new My MSN. An earlier phase of this migration allowed users to try the new My MSN in a beta form while returning to their original My MSN page if they so chose. However, production has recently progressed to the point where we are now able to release the latest My MSN to all of our users. As a result, current My MSN users will, over the coming weeks, be migrated to the new My MSN permanently.

Thanks again, Brett K, for another useful comment and update - at least you are looking at things as they are.

As I've posted (scroll down) it looks more and more as if this "problem" is deliberate.

Getting rid of My MSN and forcing users to find another home would certainly free up billions of GBs of server space - which can then be used for their paid services. Go figure. Hope I'm proven wrong, I, obviously and for the same reasons you did, liked the homepage.

Snarkily?

The MSN home page, and more specifically My MSN home page, is scrambled. No columns; it is all scrambled on the left hand side of the screen -- this is if you are facing the screen. What can I do and where I can go to fix this problem?

As many have said here, snarkily or otherwise, this is Not an MSN site so while it is nice to vent here, not much will be done unless someone there looks at this site. Below is a link to a real MSN forum where this issue is being discussed, but as of yet I see no signs that MSN is responding to this. Maybe if more people post there it will get some answers. You may have to sign up to reply. At least the links on the unformatted page still work so I can sort of usw what was saved, but still very annoying. Good luck to all of us

I have the same problem as everyone else, "MY MSN" all scrambled. Just wondering how long to wait until I move on to another homepage. I have a mac with Safari and never had a problem before.

I concur with Gary Smith and the others. I went into system restore before I went to comments on this site. Nothing worked, although I can access MSN through windows 8. I hope this can be fixed bc I have gotten so used to My MSN and the way I have customized it.

In response to Gary, I have windows 7 and internet exp.10 and my msn does not work. That's unreal that they want $$$ to fix! I'm ready to give up and get a Yahoo home page. This is ridiculous!!

I called Microsoft yesterday and they told me that the problem was with my IE and it was corrupt and that they needed to remote into my computer to fix it, but it would cost me $$$ to do so. Not a chance! this is a wide spread problem that others are experiencing. I tried to tell them that but got no response back from them. It is day 4 with this problem. I have tried everything to fix it with no success. HELP!

One more note: my.msn.com works fine on a win 7 with IE 8, . will not work on Win 8.1 Pro IE 11.

I am another person whose my.msn page is not loading or displaying properly. It happens in internet explorer and Chrome. the Outlook page loads fine so I can still get me email but my home page is all screwed up. What did Microsoft do?

I am so glad I found your website! My msn is also totally jumbled, and has been for 3 days. I thought the problem must be me, now I realize it is with msn. My husband is ready just to dump msn, but I am reluctant to do that because so many people have our msn e-mail address because we have had it for years. So ... does anybody know how to actually tell someone at msn about this problem or do I just live with it or is it time to try gmail?

Wednesday night, came home and the page was scrambled. Got to work yesterday, and it was fine all day long. Got on at home last night, and it was scrambled. Both PCs are running Windows 7. ?

I got a message that said the page is 'UP' but that maybe it isn't working for me. Really? I don't think so! Too many are having problems for 3 days now for it to be my computer. My page looks like a bad report that would get an 'F' and they are trying to say there is no problem. Time for them to admit that the problem isn't our computers. Fix it already!

MSN.com works fine. Only mymsn.com is totally jumbled. Three days now. It was in the past an intermittent problem. Looks like another MSN attempt at trying to forcie us to use what they want us to use, i.e. Windows 8 useless apps

I have used this portal since the beginning of times. Perhaps, it is time to look at other alternatives. It is not acceptable that microsoft takes more than three days to address our concerns.

So, here it is 5Am on East Coast, Fri. 11/8 and this damn page is still not fixed. I'm starting to think they're not going to fix it! This is day 3!!! Oh, wait, I just thought, is this the same team that's fixing the gov'ts healthcare website? Finally signed up yesterday with a lousy plan and after hours and hours and 2 trips to Highmark. I was told at Highmark, they've only signed 10% of people that have come in. Anyway, thought I'd share that frustration. Lol

Question, msn wants me to verify that my hotmail account is realy mine. "Call us overprotective, " that message. It states that they will send a message to my inbox to verify, but I can't access my inbox! When I try to it's taking me back to the same message

My msn homepage on IE is scrambled right now. I do not know what the issue is but it has been like this all night. All of the text is pushed to the left side and nothing can be done on the page.

This is from a MSN Community posting from August. Anybody see a lightbulb coming on over their head?

"I use MSN My Page. Why will it be discontinued?

I have used the MSN my page for a very long time and use it to manage my life and business. I really like the fact that I have all my links to all my important sites right in front of me on my homepage. I also have all my news and weather the way I want it. Today I noticed a sign saying that this service will be discontinued effective October 2013. MSN suggests I use the new MSN page however it does allow me to put my personal links on the page. I have tried other pages in the past such as iGoogle, netvibes and page flakes but have always preferred the MSN my page. One would think if it will be discontinued that they would be replaced with something better.

I hope that Microsoft will reconsider canceling the service since it is very useful. No matter where I am or on what computer I can login and access all of my linked sites. This is extremely useful to me. I actually love the interface as well.

So tell me why would they canceled this? what would be a good replacement ?"

I just went to the following link for MSN help at: answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msn/forum/my_msn. The following message was there acknowledging the problem: "November 7, 2013 - PROBLEMS WITH MY.MSN CUSTOMIZED HOMEPAGE. There is currently an issue that some are seeing when going to the my.MSN.com page. Some are seeing a default or jumbled page instead of their customized homepage. This issue is being investigated and we are working on a fix. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience."

This one goes to the Stupid to the Max responder... first their is no reason for you to be insulting anyone here if you dont like the cmnts or have anything nice to say to a person thats posting in the site go where ever the heck my msn page went and get lost... for your information... That post that I put YES THATS WHAT THEY JUST TOLD ME.. maybe you can call them here goes the num... 800-642-7676... even btr go to MSN Member Center and try to fix it if you DONT HAVE PREMIUM

Roger Prescott · 7 November 2013 - 15:44
United States · Comcast Cable

Seeing a LOT of stupidity happening here, now, people.

Like having MSN Premium could make a difference. It can't and it doesn't. MSN Premium is like those extended auto warranties or life insurance - either you don't need or you're dead. But if you call on something like this, they make money and you go through Hell, until they finally admit there was nothing they could do in the first place.

THERE IS NOTHING TECH SUPPORT CAN DO - NOT THE TECH YOU CAN ACCESS. You think some dork with a headset in India or the Philippines can fix a Microsoft Server? The dork can't even call them up! Smarten up, people!

Yeah, like one or two might read this good advice. As I've been saying, posting on this site does nothing! Zero, NaDa. But you feel better that you could post somewhere, anywhere, don't ya?
