We have tried pinging NY State Department of Labor website using our server and the website returned the above results. If labor.ny.gov is down for us too there is nothing you can do except waiting. Probably the server is overloaded, down or unreachable because of a network problem, outage or a website maintenance is in progress...

If the site is UP but you cant access the page, try one of the below solutions:

Browser Related Problems

Force a full refresh for the site. This can be achieved by pressing CTRL + F5 keys at the same time on your favourite browser (Firefox, Chrome, Explorer, etc.)

Fix DNS Problems

A Domain Name System (DNS) allows a site IP address (192.168.x.x) to be identified with words (*.com) in order to be remembered more easily, like a phonebook for websites. This service is usually provided by your ISP.

Clear your local DNS cache to make sure that you grab the most recent cache that your ISP has. For Windows - (Start > Command Prompt > type "ipconfig /flushdns" and hit enter). For details choose your operating system :

If you can access a website at office or from a 3G network yet it's not working on your computer, it is a good idea to use an alternative DNS service other than your ISPs. OpenDNS or Google Public DNS are both excellent and free public DNS services.

Check our help page for step-by-step instructions on how to change your DNS.

Jeremy Moore - I was just able to reach the site and certify benefits after I cleared my cache. Considering there have been no other comments that the site is down it may just be you and me that are having a problem. Try cleaning your system and see if that works. Best of luck.

As of 4:03 pm, Eastern, the site is still down. The statement is still there- stating that there is an issue, and to try back later. Lamont, you seemed to have gotten lucky.

Sabrina Mason · 11 January 2016 - 19:42

The website and phone system has been down since yesterday. I found the issue around 2:30pm when I tried to access my account. I tried the phone system and it was down as well. I found a number to call in the Bronx and the person on the phone basically said they didn't know what was going on but the techs were on the issue and yes, this will delay benefits.

Kenneth Barnett · 11 January 2016 - 17:49
· · Chrome 47.0 on Windows

UPDATE. There is a NEW posting to the main ..gov page that states that they are experiencing technical difficulties with their phone system and the Web syem (DUHHH), and to be patient and to try back later. This is a new banner that was not there earlier. Just saw this at 12:48 pm- today.

Kenneth Barnett · 11 January 2016 - 17:42
· · Chrome 47.0 on Windows

NO, the site, the phones, everything is DOWN or Hacked. No press release, no info, no emails, NOTHING. This is going to e a major cluster-F when ThOUSANDS try to all certify their claims at ONCE- once it IS back up. SOOO FRUSTRATING. They can't of course put to work people that NEED jobs- to MAN this kind of thing?- meaning an outage, so we can KNOW what is going on? Maybe someone needs to call one of the news stations so we can start to get some info?

Kenneth Barnett · 11 January 2016 - 17:39
· · Chrome 47.0 on Windows

The Kingston number listed below. But they will provide no help. No one is telling them anything IN HOUSE either. IT IS SCARY.

I still can't log in. Has anyone been able to do that?

Vicki Camenares · 11 January 2016 - 16:25
· · Chrome 47.0 on Mac

Kenneth...which number did you use that you were able to reach someone? This is a really scary issue. People really rely on these checks!

Steve Somma · 11 January 2016 - 16:24
· · Chrome 47.0 on Windows

It's not just me. Local workforce office is reporting the site is down as well. No public notice, of course

Kenneth Barnett · 11 January 2016 - 16:21
· · Chrome 47.0 on Windows

That is a sign that this is a huge issue with the main database.

Kenneth Barnett · 11 January 2016 - 16:18
· · Chrome 47.0 on Windows

I also got through to a non- direct labor person- and they have NO INFO, but acknowledge that the system is completely DOWN. Both phone and web Noone has told anyone there anything- and they have no word WHY. I just can't believe that not a single notice is going out anywhere to inform the State recipients- people that rely on this money. Not even to give a time-line for how long it will be down? Then my feeling is that this is a pretty major outage. How the F they are going to now respond to 1000's that can't even initially file, but all of us that are trying to certify for the week is beyond me. Errors, mistakes, things happen- but not providing info- total BS.

Kenneth Barnett · 11 January 2016 - 16:08
· · Chrome 47.0 on Windows

Maybe the State raided the U.I. money, and figured they'd let us all wait a few days until they funnel money back in. LOL.

Kenneth Barnett · 11 January 2016 - 16:06
· · Chrome 47.0 on Windows

The fact that is both down online, and by phone- AND they have providded no answers- is so STATE like. Frustrating. I would guess they got HACKED. That's my guess. No emails explaining this, no posting explaining this, no news story telling people what is wrong? Think of families that REALLY rely on that check EARLY. I have a feeling the phones would be down as well. If this was just normal down time for maintanence they would have said something in advance. So my gut is saying they had a major issue and it is big enough that they can't fix it with any speed. You would think they'd have a back up in place- rolling and ready for this kind of situation. Pretty frustarted. But again- as a 17 year former NYS employee- I AM NOT AT ALL surprised by this. The website was built by the lowerst bidder.

Jamie Lawrence · 11 January 2016 - 15:19

The website is still down. I have been trying since Sunday at 4pm to claim my weekly benefits. WTF is going on? Tried doing it by phone as well and I just get disconnected. LAME!!!

Kenneth Barnett when ai called today it hungs up on me when you get so far. The last time I tried it says calling again later experencing technical difficulites. Wtf. So annoying.

Heather Marie · 11 January 2016 - 07:51

Telephone calls not even working i was automactically hung up on amd now states technical difficulties. Why the heck is there no place for the department to announce these issues and what to do? Or how long to wait.

Heather Marie · 11 January 2016 - 07:46
· · Chrome 47.0 on Android

Cant claim online or by telephone. Telephone hangs up saying technical difficulties. And wont load all day says try again later. Last I checked now it will send me to starting a whole new claim like the beginning process of unemployment claim.

Kenneth, I will definitely let you know if I get through by phone tomorrow morning and if it is a big pain.

Kenneth Barnett · 11 January 2016 - 05:01
· · Chrome 47.0 on Windows

If no one go in by computer today- which I would guess now accounts for a ton of their weekly filings- then tomorrow by phone is going to be a royal pain. 1000's of people will all be calling at the same time!

Kenneth Barnett · 11 January 2016 - 04:57
· · Chrome 47.0 on Windows

Yes, know that- but filing by phone can be a big pain, and there can be a long wait to even get through- at least form my experience. As long as it's up before Saturday, I can live with the money being a bit late. Though, it is prety annoying. I worked for NYS for years- so I'm not suprised that there isn't even a notice as to what is wrong. I thought it was my browser for most of the day! Please let me know here- if you do get through by phone tomorrow. Thank you!!

Oscar DeGrouche · 11 January 2016 - 04:52

Joseph Huth · 11 January 2016 - 04:39

Not great at all. I am going to call them first thing in the morning. Did you know you can claim by phone - 888-581-5812? I am reluctant to do this, however, as I am on direct deposit and this may delay benefits further.

Kenneth Barnett · 11 January 2016 - 04:32
· · Chrome 47.0 on Windows

Glad to at least know that it isn't just on my end. Not great that it might delay our benefits however.
