We have tried pinging Coursera website using our server and the website returned the above results. If coursera.org is down for us too there is nothing you can do except waiting. Probably the server is overloaded, down or unreachable because of a network problem, outage or a website maintenance is in progress...

Can't Access Coursera - Troubleshooting Instructions

If the site is UP but you cant access the page, try one of the below solutions:

Browser Related Problems

Force a full refresh for the site. This can be achieved by pressing CTRL + F5 keys at the same time on your favourite browser (Firefox, Chrome, Explorer, etc.)

Clear the temporary cache and cookies on your browser to make sure that you have the most recent version of the web page. For instructions choose your browser :

Fix DNS Problems

A Domain Name System (DNS) allows a site IP address (192.168.x.x) to be identified with words (*.com) in order to be remembered more easily, like a phonebook for websites. This service is usually provided by your ISP.

Clear your local DNS cache to make sure that you grab the most recent cache that your ISP has. For Windows - (Start > Command Prompt > type "ipconfig /flushdns" and hit enter). For details choose your operating system :

If you can access a website at office or from a 3G network yet it's not working on your computer, it is a good idea to use an alternative DNS service other than your ISPs. OpenDNS or Google Public DNS are both excellent and free public DNS services.

Check our help page for step-by-step instructions on how to change your DNS.

Coursera still down and just when my worst fears about peer review were realized. I wrote as perfect a program as JavaScript will allow and some jerk marked me down because they either refuse to use any browser other than IE or they’re too much of a newb to understand that === is better than ==. I haven’t been able to find out which all day. Damn it! Damn it! Damn it!

Eklavya Archer · 19 April 2014 - 00:26
India · Mahanagar Telephone Nigam.

Its most likely a problem pertaining to a few of the Internet Service Providers in India, as far as i know. On some other ISP's Coursera is working absolutely fine. Change your DNS settings for the time being, as mentioned in the link given, just a little above the latest comments. It'll be alright.

Edit: I am from Delhi too. Maybe its just has to do with MTNL or something, i guess.

Geetha Narayanaswamy · 19 April 2014 - 00:02

Hi. I am writing from Delhi. Both my husband and I have been registered for courses and we cannot access our accounts from any of our machines and gadgets. My son who is in Chennai could access. What is the problem. Pl help us.

Eklavya Archer · 18 April 2014 - 23:54
India · Mahanagar Telephone Nigam.

Its just a temporary modification you might need to make if your problem is also DNS related, which seems likely. Google Public DNS is a fine alternative for the time being. One can always change back to the original automatic settings later on.

Johnathan Smith · 18 April 2014 - 23:32

Had the very same problem going on for a day. Tried everything. Finally, changing the DNS, followed by flushing the caches, as mentioned, worked perfectly well. Most probably, a problem currently affecting only some Indian users of Coursera, specifically the ones having MTNL as ISP, i guess.

You are all missing the point of this service ! It does not care if the site is broken or does not work properly, only that it exists.

1) Read the "trouble shooting" section before posting.
2) Try a different browser.
3) Complain to Coursera. Complaining here is a waste of time if they do not see it.
