Westpac.com.au is accessible for me from a Dodo ADSL connection, but totally inaccessible from a Westnet connection. Same DNS settings, so that's not the problem. Ran a tracert to see where it's hitting the wall, and the last hop before it starts timing out is:

So it may well be a Telstra issue. Come on Westpac, figure it out.

why does this site (www.isitdownrightnow.com) keep saying that WBC is up and running? The vast majority of tries will NOT get thru to even the opening page, and if you do succeed in logging in, it is likely that after looking at your accounts and trying to effect transactions, that the system will sooner or later "hang" or take you off to a page that says "This page can't be displayed". This is at least the 3rd day in a row for the Westpac site to be seriously troubled. How can they NOT have it fixed by now?

It looks like may be a network issue which means it is probably Telstra and not Westpac, would not surprise me if was related to NBN roll out reconfiguring and someone flicked a wrong switch. From my network connection via TPG (Optus I think underneath and Telstra) a network trace times out at Telstra router;

vote with your feet. i called nab, took 5 mins to open a new everyday account and a high interest account. its 1 form to fill out to change where your salary gets paid into. this isnt the first time westpac banking has gone down. happened a few months ago and their atm cars couldn't even work! this is going to get worse before they get better. their customer service is rude as also. only thing these banks care about is money. take yours away from them its the only thing they will notice

From the AustralianIT website: "The bank apologised to customers for the "interruption" and confirmed that Westpac customers would not incur any additional fees as a result of the problems"... oh well that's nice of them isnt it... but hang on, how about they compensate us for a change, because this outage is literally costing us money! They are the first to charge us if something unforeseen happens at our end!. Its clearly just a one way street.

Its about time this country's banking regulators (if they even exist) grew a pair and did more to stop institutions abusing the Australian public. Third party ATM fees... Monthly Account keeping fees... to name just two, almost completely unheard of in the UK, so how can Australian fat cats justify it? Please, someone, enlighten me.

Ps.This mess up aside, which genius at Westpac decided that scheduling frequent system maintenance outages during Australian business hours is good idea?

I know that things can't always be perfect and from time to time things do break down, but this is ridiculous!!! I have been trying to log in since yesterday morning. Then last night I finally got into my accounts. But I decided not to transfer any money just in case there was a glitch. I have tried to log in several times this morning and I can't. Could you please let us all know what the hell is going on. On another note, my son is travelling all over Europe and he needs to transfer his money to pay for his flights and accommodation. "Is it down" reports it as supposedly up and running, but that is not true. Sometimes my browser can get a response from the Westpac opening page, but you are unlikely to get past that, and definitely not into internet banking at the moment.

Somebody posted on their facebook page: "These things happen and its no ones fault."?? Funny, that's what IT people are for (yes, I am one) - you have switch-over systems and enough resources to "walk on half a leg". I don't know who designed the Westpac system, but if this can happen (whole website down, come on..) they clearly are over-paying incompetent people - ouch..
