I have a lot to say about Direct Express that I did not authorize Social Security to go thru them. I put my bank acct # when I signed up for SS & I also called them a head of time to change to my checking acct instead of savings. They wrote down correct & verified it with me. I got no direct deposit on April 9th was told that it went thru Direct Express & gave me #. Its a MC debit I told them I don't have a card, we mailed it out March 6th, let me check. I see the card was never activated. Will mail out again take 5 to 10 days to get (must be coming from across the ocean). Today is 10th day no card in mail. We can 2 day ship it to you by ups for $13.50. What kind of crap is this going on? I want my damn money. They told me I can pay the $13.50 or $1.50 for them to wire my money to bank. No other company does that. So today at 4-19 256p talked to Jessica-supv. Didn't like her attitude( bet if it was her money she would be upset too). Wait till Monday or Tuesday. If you don't get it call us. Another 5 to 10 days or $13.50 for 2day by Ups. Social Security has my name, addr, & phone#.... They should have called me or sent me a letter not just do what they please with someone's money. What kind of racket are they running? I had something I was going to buy while it was on sale at a excellent price. I waited 66 years to get my SS & they screwed it up. Yes, I am livid about this & I will tell others all about Direct Express because they are a joke. And Social Security you need to get your act together.

Direct express, rude customer service!!!
I help my father out with his bills, Couple of months ago his account was compromised! I caught it.. checking his account now, I tried to log in and forgot his password, so I clicked on get new password and they emailed me a temp. Well, the temp doesn't work! tried so many times and got locked out! and they want me to get a new temp password! *frustrated* I called the phone number and they said that they can't speak to a third party anymore.

My father is hard of hearing and doesn't know anything about the computer and how things work! he tried explaining to them...and the lady hangs up on him!!! called again and I was telling my father what to say, she tells my dad that He can not repeat what I am telling him! He is got so upset! he threw the phone down n said what the hell...

I answered all their dam questions! It would be so much easier if they talked to you!

Well it seems that not being able to access Direct Express is an on going problem. I suggest you all call Social Security and complain. Complaining to Direct Express is not going to do you any good. Secondly as someone else mentioned transferring money to a personal account will not protect your money. If you want to transfer money to an account or just get cash without paying extra you have to get cash when making a purchase. Just because you cannot access Direct Express does not mean your card does not work. Call the number on the back of your card or just try to make a small purchase to see if it will work.

I wonder if the site is just overwhelmed by so many people trying to access it at the same time. You would think that if that is the problem that Direct Express would at least give an explanation so we would know.

I can't login to the directexpress website! and I see that everyone seems to be having trouble. There has to be a better way!! If I could I would just get my money off this card, but the banks here won't honor that like DirectExpress says. I can get it from the ATM, but only a certain amount and then they charge every time after that. There surely is a better way!!! Please find it for everybody that depends on this!!!

I received my USDirectExpress card at the beginning of September. First off, the bank that I go and get my cash from, Bank of America (I think they were one of the banks that received part of the trillions of dollars from our federal government via tax dollars back in 2008 so that the economy of the rich and powerful wouldn't collapse nationally and globally and they could go on living their lives of luxury as the continued to crush the poor and vulnerable. Watch the documentary by Matt Damon, Inside Job. Every American citizen should want to try to understand what is going on with the national and global economy. "Burying our heads in the sand" will only bury our children and grandchildren in more debt.) takes a real attitude about giving me cash with my drivers license of 30 some years and my direct express debit card. Last time they even informed me that I could get my cash at another bank and I informed them that their bank was the closest one to where I live. Several days ago I removed some cash at the Hamburg Fairgrounds Casino in Hamburg, NY. Now, I don't know if the mistake is from the casino or the debit card, but the removed twice the cash that I received. I spent at least an hour on the phone with they casino and the debit card 800 number. The casino didn't find any errors. The debit card said I could file a written dispute and they gave me a number. The papers will be in the mail in several days. It may take between 45 to 90 days to settle the dispute. Although according to my direct express statement on- line, one of the amounts from the casino say, "pending cash purchase" and a day later the amount was taken out again and says, "purchase". I wasn't even at the casino on the "purchase" day. The "pending cash purchase" is suppose to turn into "cash purchase". At least that is what has happened with all my other purchases Meanwhile, my auto insurance is ready to be cancelled. Also, I was locked out at Walmart because of my pin number a few days ago. If this ever happens, just immediately call the 800 number on the card and you can change your pin number. It took the Walmart supervisor about 30 minutes to inform me of this fact. It's the same old, same old. Kick the teeth of the poor because they are vulnerable and can't afford a good lawyer. More than 37 million people live below the poverty line in the U.S.A. (Sicko documentary with Michael Moore. Another must see documentary for every concerned American citizen.) We are a force to be reckoned with if we unit with any common cause.

We've been promised for years to be able to pay bills online like Banks do, can only contact the creditor and they have to request payment. Now problem with going to Bank and getting cash to put into checking account to pay bills (online like Banks do, easy and no cost) -- DirEX won't allow withdrawal of over a certain amount per day now (my Bank says it's DirEX and not them) and we used to be able to get all funds out in one day to pay our bills but not in last couple of months; Dir EX charges $3 fee at ATM for withdrawals up to $600 plus the transaction fee at the ATM $3 or so -- Comerica Bank and Wells Fargo (never seen a Comerica Bank here) look at you like you are crazy if request your money at the teller --- and a cash withdrawal fee from credit card is expensive -- and Banks won't let you get over certain amounts. Most stores that give cash back with purchases have a limit on dollar amount and most are not over $40, so good luck getting cash if needed. DirEx is in business to make money without providing services like a Bank would for a set monthly fee. How does our Government hook us up with such a lousy provider -- should be first class operation with extended and protected services and calls answered expeditiously by trained and skilled personnel.

I just got through to Direct Express. The reason cards aren't working is because a "third party" has comprimised the cards and the cards have been de-activated. Call the customer serv number and selec option 3 for lost, stolen or damaged cards. It took me 9 minutes to get through. OR You can go to a Wells Fargo or CoMerica bank and withdraw your money through a TELLER ONLY! OR you can make a store purchase with cash back and withdraw all of your funds. They really suck... I'm just sayin'!

I can log onto the website but I cannot get money out of an ATM. I also tried paying my phone bill and the payment would not go through. I have been trying to call off and on all day but all I get is the "we are experiencing a high call volume, please try your call again at a later time." So, I have had nothing but problems with this outfit from day 1! I can't shop, I can't pay bills and now when I go to log on, there is a red pop-up box warning for direct express memebers about fraud!

I'm in NY state and my card now works at the store and gas station, but it still won't work at the ATM or to pay a bill by phone. I wanted to pay my cable bill by phone but the transaction won't go through. I guess they will just have to wait for their money! Not my fault!

I don't collect SSI or SSD but I have friends that do and they have solved that issue. For the people who can't access their funds with their ATM card do the technical difficulties you can still access your money, all you have to do is go inside the bank, explain to the teller your situation, hand them your debit card and your Id and they will take care of it.Hope this helps!

I tried 4 different banks, and one poss machine for gas, no go. it is now 11:45 on the west coast and still no good on direct express cards. I do hope they get this fixed asap. HHmmm wondering if its a real snafu, or just the fed's creating chaos at our expense. I am not paranoid, but with all this other s*** happening with the internet and bank hacks, makes one wonder. But why all ssi cards? I hope it comes up by morning.

Just got back from a 24 hour super walmart. Had ( I'm not joking ) 11 people waiting around the cashier with items ready to be paid for and everyones cards are declined. I have hit 3 bank atms and 2 gas stations. Nothing happens just get an error message. As far as customer service I might as well be talking to a brick wall. At least then iI might feel like I'm getting somewhere. If this is a government sub'd back, not saying much for the government is it. :/

I just got off the phone with customer service the server for the card is down... they don't have any idea as to when it will be back up if you want to contact them yourself call the normal number on the back of you card and when it say press 1 for english press 3 hope that helps

it may sit there in silence for awhile but it will eventually connect to rep

I would imagine that the longer the banks can delay your making withdrawls of any type(including purchases and bill pay) the more interest they make by holding your money. Hence the down site!!!

Card is fully functional. To purchase gasoline, just go inside to attendant to swipe card.

I've read the other comment and it's all B.S. Sure you can call by phone but you only get 10 traction's with not details. If a bank can not provide an online service for bill paying ect. ect. what good a they doing for me. Get it fixed or I'll fix it by doing business with another bank. J.L.

...this is simply a matter of the institution our government awarded the contract to not having enough horsepower with their computer servers--people on disability, ssi, etc. need to check their balances on line, and the company/bank/financial institution with the govm't contract has not devoted enough computer resources to handle the load which is why your attempts to login time out and/or slow down at the beginning of the month.

With all the flim flam, okey doke, and casino economics our banks and financial sector have inflicted on the American public, and the trillions they have sucked out, this is inexcusable.

I have been using this card for 2 years after getting tired of bank fees and money being taken out of acct. without my knowing. The site has only been down 2x in 2 years. I never have any problem with it. I pay bills and do my shopping with out problems. Disability check has always been there on the 3rd of each month. On the 3rd. of the month is when problems seem to happen and I think its because everyone is trying to get on at the same time. It is cleared up that same day or the next.

You can still check your balance via phone and I was still able to use my card to pay bills and buy what was needed at the stores. So at least that part is still available.

The site is down.. but I was able to check balance via telephone. Also was able to withdraw from ATM today. Paid some bills.. big hope that goes through! Normally don't have any trouble with them.. but we shall see. Have had them for 11 months.

Um, just so some of you know, I used my card fine today. Rent/P.O/grocery store. I am sure they are working on fixing it. The fees are if you use an ATM - just use cash back options. Have a great weekend!

I never have to pay to use this card.. PNC bank does not charge, my old credit union does not charge...

I will do what ever is necessary to get out of this BAD DEAL. Costs me money to get my own money, doesn't work half the time. The damm card is no good for gas purchases.
USELESS, ABSOLUTELY USELESS. Get some of your high paid government employees to fix the god damm site.
