Can't Access Target - Troubleshooting Instructions

If the site is UP but you cant access the page, try one of the below solutions:

Browser Related Problems

Force a full refresh for the site. This can be achieved by pressing CTRL + F5 keys at the same time on your favourite browser (Firefox, Chrome, Explorer, etc.)

Clear the temporary cache and cookies on your browser to make sure that you have the most recent version of the web page. For instructions choose your browser :

Fix DNS Problems

A Domain Name System (DNS) allows a site IP address (192.168.x.x) to be identified with words (*.com) in order to be remembered more easily, like a phonebook for websites. This service is usually provided by your ISP.

Clear your local DNS cache to make sure that you grab the most recent cache that your ISP has. For Windows - (Start > Command Prompt > type "ipconfig /flushdns" and hit enter). For details choose your operating system :

If you can access a website at office or from a 3G network yet it's not working on your computer, it is a good idea to use an alternative DNS service other than your ISPs. OpenDNS or Google Public DNS are both excellent and free public DNS services.

Check our help page for step-by-step instructions on how to change your DNS.

I have deleted my cookies and cache....I have also forced all DNS for Foxfire and this site still does not work. I called target yesterday and they told me to wait 10 min. and try again.....obviously they have a problem. Has anyone else reported their problem to Target. Do they know their site is not working for alot of customers. Really inconvenient.

Its down again today, 12/2/15, on the east coast. It wouldn't let me submit my order because its payment system seemed to be down. I tried with numerous cards, even on the phone. After two hours of choosing the perfect gifts and being on the phone, half the items on my list are now out of stock. Target needs to fix its website issues in light of the increased traffic flow expected this time of year... though I run into this during the slow seasons too.

Cathy Hines Trout · 1 December 2015 - 07:24
· · Chrome 46.0 on Mac

it's 11 pm on the west coast and target is down. at first i got a screen requesting me to be patient. that went away, and now hitting save and continue leaves me hanging,

I was finally able to place my single, non-holiday item in my cart, then received the dread "please hold tight" message for the entire rest of the day and evening. Cleared caches, deleted cookies, etc.,-no luck. It is now just after midnight. The site certainly seemed/seems to be down for me. :(

Tania Marie · 1 December 2015 - 06:06
· · Safari 8.0 on iPad

I have not experienced the "lines" issue and website allows me to shop & add items to cart but goes into an eternal hang up when I hit the final checkout button. After an hour of the hold tight message I closed out the browser window then reopened & logged back in, all items were still in my cart & it said the cyber discount was being applied (after midnight). And then a repeat performance of the eternal hangup screen when I tried to complete checkout. No idea whether it will complete the transaction or simply keep booting me between the website problems & the security timeouts. Epic fail Target.

Elizabeth Radle · 1 December 2015 - 05:40
· · Safari 8.0 on iPhone

I've been waiting almost 45 minutes with the "please hold tight" message. Not sure what to do. It took forever to get things in the cart. Starting to wonder if I'll ever be able to place order.

Kay Johnson Rogers · 1 December 2015 - 05:38
· · Internet Explorer 11.0 on Windows

That's Target for you. Can't order anything. Keeps saying there's too many people in "line" ahead of me to order this item and to keep trying to put the item in the car. Been doing this all day. Called their 800 line and said their site is not able to handle traffic and they are trying to fix the issue.

Judy Dearborn · 1 December 2015 - 05:22
· · Internet Explorer 11.0 on Windows

Verses - Amazon- I had a problem buying a gift certificate at a discount this evening. I hit 'contact us" and gave my phone #. Within five minutes, Amazon called. I told them my situation. They issued a $10 credit to my account to offset the situation. Done! Finished! It didn't even seem like Cyber Monday contacting them.

Judy Dearborn · 1 December 2015 - 05:05
· · Internet Explorer 11.0 on Windows

This is absolutely crazy. Target is trying to compete with Amazon and they flunked. I have three time gotten stuck trying to pay for my stuff after 'WAITING IN LINE' for every item!!! Now I finally put in CYBER15. That posted but the promo for $25 (DECORATE)' would not post. That was the only reason I spent over $100. Now i clicked 'save and continue' and it is in 'cyber land' somewhere in 'www-secure.target.com' This is scary when I think back to last years problems!!!! I am about ready to just cancel my order since it hopefully hasnt gone through!

Gretchen Benner · 1 December 2015 - 04:38
· · Chrome 46.0 on Windows

After waiting about 60 minutes, the high traffic page at Target went back to the payment info page and asked me to re-enter all payment info and gift card email info for online live membership. So did that all over again and reviewed order ect ect, I hit submitt order. It sent me back to the account info page at the very beginning with all my items showing still in my cart!! I don't want to order the same 3 things again and PAY again!

Well, I just emptied out my cart at Target. I searched for the coffee mugs I was trying to buy ALL DAY, and found them cheaper from the manufacturer, with their sales, plus an extra 10% cashback from Mr. Rebates.

Brenda Grolle · 30 November 2015 - 22:26

I've had items in my cart for more than 3 hours. I still can't check out. And they lost a sale on 1 item. Amazon lowered their price on a DVD to match Target's net price after the CyberMonday code, so I removed it from my Target cart (miraculously the site did let me do that) and ordered it from Amazon, no problem.

Dana Alsip Kellner · 30 November 2015 - 21:48

Candice Kreiter · 30 November 2015 - 20:56

I find it funny how people are blaming target stores themselves. Target stores have nothing to do with the website or the amount of product they get in. It has to do with the distribution center and corporate. It's all the people who are trying to get the online deals. Websites do crash when there are thousand of people on it. Stop bitching.

I have lost all confidence in Targets ability to cell anything online or in the store for that matter. They plan ahead with special deals for cyber Monday pay for advertisement Etc . Then there site crashes first thing on Monday up and down all day. money well spent Wow ! CEO should be fired and have his live scan updated. In My humble opinion. But This is what will happen the whole thing will be swept under the rug CEO will be given a great retirement package and told what a great job he did.

Target Website just now...

So sorry, but high traffic's causing delays. If you wouldn't mind holding, we'll refresh automatically & get things going ASAP.

Thank you for your patience!

Doesn't allow items to be added to cart, nor does it give alternative message e.g. "out of stock" . Have been on hold with Target "customer service" for 1.15 hours.

Won't add available item to cart. Tried on multiple browser's. On some it won't finish loading pictures. Others it loads pictures but won't allow you to select items.

Won't let me view cart items, even says my cart is empty even though I know there's 20 items in there...

Cart keeps emptying. Tried to checkout and said "sorry, something went wrong."
