Can't Access Netflix - Troubleshooting Instructions

If the site is UP but you cant access the page, try one of the below solutions:

Browser Related Problems

Force a full refresh for the site. This can be achieved by pressing CTRL + F5 keys at the same time on your favourite browser (Firefox, Chrome, Explorer, etc.)

Try alternative urls such as movies.netflix.com

Clear the temporary cache and cookies on your browser to make sure that you have the most recent version of the web page. For instructions choose your browser :

Fix DNS Problems

A Domain Name System (DNS) allows a site IP address (192.168.x.x) to be identified with words (*.com) in order to be remembered more easily, like a phonebook for websites. This service is usually provided by your ISP.

Clear your local DNS cache to make sure that you grab the most recent cache that your ISP has. For Windows - (Start > Command Prompt > type "ipconfig /flushdns" and hit enter). For details choose your operating system :

If you can access a website at office or from a 3G network yet it's not working on your computer, it is a good idea to use an alternative DNS service other than your ISPs. OpenDNS or Google Public DNS are both excellent and free public DNS services.

Check our help page for step-by-step instructions on how to change your DNS.

Netflix just stopped working. it wouldn't load any shows. it said try again later. i checked my internet source and it is running faster then ever. my modem is wired and so is the device im trying to watch it on. i even restarted the device and am now writing this on the same device. so nothing on my end is wrong. and according to this site netflix is up and says its down for me only. i have been a customer for a few years and this has happened a bunch of time. normally after one of their pointless updats which didnt add anything new except the color when you sign in. i have talked to them in the past and they dont care if their down or their apps are acting up. they will just offer to refund your 1 months payment and cancel your service. Netflix out of every company i have talk cares the very least about their customers. i dont know when companys that act this way will ever understand. without customers you dont have a company anymore. im really sick of this.

I have tried to stream videos through the Netflix website for the past two days, but it isn't working. I click on a title to play the selection, I watch the url address change (as if it will load the movie), and then it like stops halfway through and doesn't load the movie. At this halfway point it freezes and overwhelms my ability to operate other open windows. I tried logging off of Netflix and closing all windows to help, but I am still having trouble. Now when I try to access the website to log back in I get the same freezing problem and it locks up (times out) before i can even input my sign on information.

Appears to be back up and running. Was down for less than an hour. Not bad at all as Netflix doesn't experience issues very often. For those of you complaining about getting a credit on your account payment for the downtime, even if we round up to an hour, If you have the $8.99 plan your credit would be $8.99/month divided by 30 days = roughly $0.30 a day. divide that by 24 (hours in a day) and you are due a credit of $.012. One tenth of a cent. Go ahead and call Netflix asking for that refund. It's not worth the time it takes to say "give me my money back" lol and for those of us paying the higher rate of $11.99/month our credit is $.016 Round that up and we are ROLLIN in our two tenths of a cent. Do that 4 more times and we'll have a penny. SCORE..... ;) I spent my less than an hour of downtime talking with my husband. Pricesless. I should pay Netflix.

I can get Netflix to work with this little trick. Well, Netflix site would load with no format in Google Chrome but would load just fine in Firefox but I would get an error about Silverlight in Firefox. So, what I did was click on the movie I wanted to play in Firefox and after I got the error, I would copy the address in the address bar and paste it into Chrome address bar and walaa I was watching my movie.

I was able to get to one of their help pages, here:

https://help.netflix.com/en/node/461

They currently have a message up that says:

"We are currently experiencing issues streaming on PC and/or Mac devices; however, other devices may still work. We are working to resolve the problem. We apologize for any inconvenience."

Netflix is not working for me on my laptop (Seattle, WA), it's doing very weird things I've never seen it do before. Just not loading properly and can't get to anything. However, I am able to access it via my Netflix app on my iPad-mini. Will watch that for now, though I much prefer watching on the bigger screen of my laptop.
Hope they get this fixed soon, or give us credit for down time.

Don't know why, Netflix was so slow coming up I had to restart it several times, and switch from Internet Explorer to Firefox. Now it has asked for who I am but has not opened the app for a few minutes now, still loading. G-r-r--r-r-r--rr-

Unable to get Netflix to load currently. This is frustrating! Time here is 8:44 p.m. PST. And it's not just my problem as the above comment states, as I'm able to access other websites without any issue.

Works Fine on PS3 but the website is utterly useless at the moment. Slow, doesn't respond and tells me a installation has been complete though I never installed something. They've must of hired someone from youtube. :p

Upon trying to play a movie, it keeps giving me a Silverlight "problem" page. I've downloaded the latest Silverlight, straight from their web page, 13 times now (deleting the old downloads as I go) and I still get the same style error. Pretty frustrating. "Thanks" Netflix.

I unistalled and reinstalled silverlight but still nothing. I can click on the program but it doesn't ever get to the buffering point, it just tells me there is a problem with silverlight. It worked fine for me last night. First issue I've ever had with netflix streaming.

Netflix is down here in Maryland (Verizon FIOS). When logging in on my Laptop it tells me to uninstall microsoft silver light. I have uninstalled and reinstalled that program twice and afterwards I rebooted my laptop. Netflix still failed to come up for me. However, I can watch movies through my iPhone/ipad app. I've tried watching netflix through safari, google chrome, and microsoft explorer. Good luck everyone

Netflix has been down now for 8 hours nation wide, including Canada, the U.S.A. and Latin America!!! What is going on have they been hacked!?! Is our personal information safe??? Why no REAL answers after all this time???

Netflix is not playing movies. I did jump through the silverlight hoops (uninstall/reinstall) and I think the reason 'is it down right now' can not see the problem is because Netflix allows home page view and log in. The site is up but it isn't playing movies. Several attempts in past 45 minutes. Northern California.

Stop saying its down here or there, its down, your location has nothing to do with it, netflix is once again, not working, end of story

Once again, just like the last several issues as of recent with netflix, disregard what your browser says, it is not silverlight. Netflix is down, all there is to it.

I can get to the site but I can't get it to stream. It's giving me a "Silverlight Installation error" (code 2103) when I try to play content, but when I go to the help page there's a message saying "We are currently experiencing issues on all devices. We are working to resolve the problem".

GOOD PEOPLE!! NETFLIX IS UP!!
Follow the directions above to change your DNS server to Google DNS. Primary :8.8.8.8 Secondary: 8.8.4.4 or another one of your choosing.
Your Netflix should work then. If you cant be bothered to..then no Netflix for you!

Chances are, the new changes in service are rolling out right now since Netflix and Verizon came to agreement on Monday. They are pretty big changes IIRC, so be a little patient once eh?

I stream Netflix on Chromecast and at first the site took a LONG time and came back with a plain text list of commands and then I have gotten the error message several times that Netflix is unreachable.

Not working here either. The website isn't working on the computer, and the app isn't working on my phone either. It wasn't working on my xbox 360, flashing an error code nw-1-19, though my internet is working fine. Luckily I found some help sites for that code and changed the DNS to manual along with changing the primary and secondary code so it's working on my xbox for now.

I can connect to Netflix, but can't stream anything. That's probably why this site says that they are up - the just send a ping or something to see if the site responds - they get a response, they assume it's running.

Cannot continue watching Netflix on Phillips Smart TV. "We're unable to connect you to Netflix. Please try again or visit www.netflix.com/help for guidance." I cannot even get on the website on PC. East Central Alabama.

This is all too common with netflix, its always something, they are either completely down, or the episode you are on doesn't work. Its ridiculous we pay for this service! So tired of their unreliability, frustrating there are really no other options.

Netflix is down on Xbox 360 - error code nw-1-19 unable to connect to the internet. I tried disconnecting the Wi-Fi and connecting directly with no success. Completed network connection test and I am fully connected to the internet. All other apps/games work except for Netflix...not an isolated device incident... (Wooster, OH)

Netflix is DOWN. For about an hour it was down. Then I connected and watched a documentary from start to finish on my iPad. NOW I get the same error as before "Error. There is a problem connecting to Netflix. Please try again later (1011). AND your link to their website fails.

Netflix is down via wifi on my xbox, wii, pc, and macbook. I was able to connect via an LTE connection but after 2 minutes the program stopped and I got an error message telling me the site was down. Pretty sure it's not just me.

I recommend saying what part of the country you are in, I am Pacific northwest. I am thinking its a server connected to the pacific northwest and that is why we are all having issues but this website says its working as this is based in a different part of the country.

Robert Klump · 30 April 2014 - 09:27

called Netflix and received recording which said the site is down and they are working to correct the problem. So this site needs to correct their statement "Netflix.com is UP and reachable. The website is probably down just for you". Hate it when they people say it is "just you". Those misleads turn into real time sucks!. I've been with Netflix many many years and their performance over all has been exceptional so I can deal with a little down time..
