Probably the server is overloaded, down or unreachable because of a network problem, outage or a website maintenance is in progress...

Can't Access Excite - Troubleshooting Instructions

If the site is UP but you cant access the page, try one of the below solutions:

Browser Related Problems

Force a full refresh for the site. This can be achieved by pressing CTRL + F5 keys at the same time on your favourite browser (Firefox, Chrome, Explorer, etc.)

Clear the temporary cache and cookies on your browser to make sure that you have the most recent version of the web page. For instructions choose your browser :

Fix DNS Problems

A Domain Name System (DNS) allows a site IP address (192.168.x.x) to be identified with words (*.com) in order to be remembered more easily, like a phonebook for websites. This service is usually provided by your ISP.

Clear your local DNS cache to make sure that you grab the most recent cache that your ISP has. For Windows - (Start > Command Prompt > type "ipconfig /flushdns" and hit enter). For details choose your operating system :

If you can access a website at office or from a 3G network yet it's not working on your computer, it is a good idea to use an alternative DNS service other than your ISPs. OpenDNS or Google Public DNS are both excellent and free public DNS services.

Check our help page for step-by-step instructions on how to change your DNS.

The basic Excite website is now back up, including working links to news items for the first time in months. Yay! But not a lot else still works. Even their TV schedule is still stuck back in pre DST limbo....and don't even think about any financial or other useful updates cause they are all long dead. Too bad, I liked this site as my homepage for many years but it just keeps dying off bit by bit even with all their crappy ad supported spam. /sigh

Does anyone have suggestions of a replacement for My Excite? I can still get my weather, and so far, my birthdays and stuff, but no news pages for months. I got no reply to my letter to them. I think they must be jumping ship. I like the features they have, like the TV stations, selected places for weathers reports, and the reminders I can set for upcoming birthdays, holidays, etc. I don't use their mail, but it looks like I can still get in to mine.

Bruce Hockman · 13 March 2016 - 03:45

Clearly the Excite.com site is dying slowly but surely and has been for some time now. Pandering to event ticket sellers will not save it and disabling more and more features without explanation is just insulting to users. I will miss it after so many years but life goes on....and Excite does not. Get out while you can. Sigh.

After reporting the issue with the non-functional links, I have received the same answer the other contributors report. To make it more galling, it went straight to my junk folder. It would seem that there is no one looking into this. Hello Excite, Not nice that a site that I use daily has been down on the News Feeds for some time now. I have actually started to search for other home pages such as yours because you do not seem to be able to solve this problem. Note: There are other problems with some links not opening on the Excite web page so maybe this is the end for this wonderful web portal we have all grown to depend on for so many years. I sure hope I am wrong in my assessement.

Bummer… all news items on Excite news (e.g., http://news.excite.com/index/id/top|ap.html) are down, just as everyone here has been saying. It's been that way for a month or two. This has always been my go-to news site… lots of headlines from which to choose, without a lot of distracting graphics. I was hoping that this was just a temporary error. I'd love to see this service get fixed. Not sure where else I'll go for easily-readable, easily-clickable news items. Suggestions?

I'll join in here too. I get the same "Sorry - we can't find..." message; have for months now. I did get the canned response the first time I wrote, now they don't respond at all. Out of business? Asleep at the wheel? Excite used to be my home page - loved the headlines. Not any more.

Hi Robert,

-Excite Support
A month or more to solve rather basic issues with a site that has been operating for 20 years? I'd say IAC is on autopilot here, sucking money out of the site and doing NOTHING to maintain it.

I'm actually surprised that I got a response. But a response is not a solution. Can we light a fire under this "team?" Here's the email address again:

Robert Phares · 15 January 2016 - 06:03
· · Chrome 47.0 on Windows

Links to most news services have been broken since mid December, though the titles are current, and not updated for the NYT since mid November, but you can actually click on these titles and go to the NYT article. Like reading old magazines in a doctor's office... It is so pathetic that it is almost funny.

There is a half-assed workaround for (at least) AP stories:

Using Chrome as your browser and Google as your default search engine, highlight the article title that you want to read in your "My News" section. Right click on it, and select from the menu [Search Google for "your title"]. Generally this will return several search results matching the article you want.

The only email address I can find to complain to Excite with is:

It may be a black hole but I don't know what else to do.

FWIW, I have been able to log in and get the My Page that I'm used to getting ... news headlines, Bookmarks, weather, etc. And without clearing cookies or cache or browsing history, thank you very much all level 1 techs.

Don't know if this will help anyone else but in my Chrome browser, I opened my currently favorite search engine (Google) and keyed in: excite.com
and clicked on "Sign in" that showed under the 1st Excite item that was returned. That took me to the "Personalize My TV Listings!" which I didn't think was the right direction but decided to play along and keyed in my zip and provider and was presented with the page to select my channels to be listed. I scrolled to the bottom clicked on Submit and...

My excite.com site remains down. Have tried all suggested remedies (cache clearing, etc.) to no avail. Still getting the "back as soon as possible" message.

My Excite home page says "We're Sorry. We'll have your personalized page back as soon as possible." I depend on that page. Also Fox News hasn't updated since Nov. 18th. What is going on? I have used Excite for my home page for years and never had a problem.

My personalized Excite! page is unavailable and has been for well over 24 hours. I can't find anything about it when searching the web, other than a lot of unhappy campers who can't access their homepage, just like me.

Dear Excite,
It has been over 12 hours, and my page is still not available. I get the message, "We're sorry! We'll have your personalized page back as soon as possible." I tried your "DNS server" thing and it had no effect at all.

My personal page is down, too, but there is a message near the top that says "We're sorry! We'll have your personalized page back as soon as possible." Everyone in site maintenance must be off this weekend!

Joan, I found out from a friend that my email has been shut down. She tried to send me a message and it got returned as undeliverable. I am so mad at excite...

My email stopped working on the same day. Cannot reach excite to find out what is going on and how to fix it. Have you had any luck?

Excite.com does not finish loading. It just gives a "loading" message and never finishes. I waited 9 minutes and gave up.

I can get my excite page to open up but I have not been able to send or receive messages since Oct 5. I get the message when I try to send a message "this service is temporarily unavailable, try later"

My Excite page will not come up. I keep being redirected to errodocs.excite.com

Apparently Excite Webmail's security certificate is expired... Every browser is blocking access to it. I'm afraid to override in case it's a virus hijack.

I have been experiencing the same problem for the last two days on multiple computers using both Chrome and Firefox. Cannot access my email. Clearing the browser cache in Chrome had no effect. Excite appears to be down
