Can't Access Craigslist - Troubleshooting Instructions

If the site is UP but you cant access the page, try one of the below solutions:

Browser Related Problems

Force a full refresh for the site. This can be achieved by pressing CTRL + F5 keys at the same time on your favourite browser (Firefox, Chrome, Explorer, etc.)

Try alternative urls such as

Clear the temporary cache and cookies on your browser to make sure that you have the most recent version of the web page. For instructions choose your browser :

Fix DNS Problems

A Domain Name System (DNS) allows a site IP address (192.168.x.x) to be identified with words (*.com) in order to be remembered more easily, like a phonebook for websites. This service is usually provided by your ISP.

Clear your local DNS cache to make sure that you grab the most recent cache that your ISP has. For Windows - (Start > Command Prompt > type "ipconfig /flushdns" and hit enter). For details choose your operating system :

If you can access a website at office or from a 3G network yet it's not working on your computer, it is a good idea to use an alternative DNS service other than your ISPs. OpenDNS or Google Public DNS are both excellent and free public DNS services.

Check our help page for step-by-step instructions on how to change your DNS.

Have been on Craigslist every day for the past week or so looking for a car. Logged off at 10pm last night, can't get on at 1pm today via Explorer or Mozilla Firefox. Says IP address is blocked. No reason it should be. Have tried various Craigslist city directories around the country with the same results.

I try to log in today and it's telling me my IP has been automatically blocked. I only have one for sale ad for a DVD currently running and I've never spammed the site ever. I have Static IP so it's not a case of being able to just unplug modem and have a new IP when I try to log back in. I have message into them via email asking what is up with this. I hope they fix it. This is crazy as there is no reason I should have been banned. Very strange indeed.

Several sites have been down for most of the day for us, seems to be west coast related (we're in Las Vegas). Craigslist is one of them. Anyone else having issues? We get Facebook and many others so it's just part of the web.

Elaine Fortin · 5 April 2014 - 06:00

Since yesterday evening, April 4, all links in the 'For Sale' items are redirected to a map. This happens for all craigslist locations that I tried, about 4.

Update: I figured it out. There are 4 links at the top of results 'list' 'thumb' gallery' 'map'. Whichever was the last one used, will be used in the next search. Just need to click a different view.

12/28/13 Craigslist has been down for me for over 3 days. Neither Firefox nor IE can open main or individual city sites. I haven't tried changing my DNS, yet. Don't really want to fix what ain't broken... i.e. every other website I visit is working fine. Otherwise, no viruses, no issues, everything up-to-date. Oddly, my issue accessing CL only began after updating FF to v. 26.0, but I don't see how that would affect IE.

It works on this site, this was created by some guy to allow clickable links, works like a charm except the map feature doesn't work. The website is or you can replace the "craigslist" with "cllink" you will not notice the difference.

Craigslist may be "up", but the city sites work like c**p. Some displays don't show unless you move your mouse over them, ... and if you bring up a city site in the same window that you had something else in, the previous web-page is still there, but the craigslist text is just "on top" of it, ... as the other web-page is still being displayed. And as I mentioned, some of the text and "button links" don't show up unless you move your mouse over them, and then they "majically" appear. I don't think I've ever seen a web-page respond like this since the internet has come into being. I hope someone gets this taken care of soon, ... but for the time being, I'm staying away. Perhaps check it before I hit the sack, or tomorrow morning.

Acting wierd in NC. I can get the "home page" to Craigs list but when I choose a topic to drill down on, like "Farm & Garden", my Blackberry just chugs and chugs and eventually I get a "Communication Failure". I am amazed that a company of this size does not have a legitimate "help desk" to field issues like this. Won't be buying stock in them anytime soon!!

from the cl help desk forum

Attention: If you are unable to access craigslis < - > 12/23 09:00:21

from certain computers or networks: There is known to currently be a temporary DNS problem affecting certain ISP's that can cause your computer to be unable to "look up" the IP addresses for craigslist's servers, and be unable to connect to them.

You can either wait for the issue to be resolved, or you can change the DNS servers your router or computer uses to use google's DNS service, which is currently working. To use google's DNS, set your DNS to:

Pacific Power is experiencing widespread power outages in Northern California. Heavy wet snow has caused numerous trees and power lines to fall, resulting in extensive damage to our equipment. Approximately 1, 026 customers are currently without power. Most customers may be without service through Monday but some could be without power through Wednesday depending on damage to our facilities and access issues. Our crews are working around the clock to have service restored as soon as possible.

It's day before Christmas Eve. I'm guessing we have overloaded the servers trying to find last minute deals and crashed their servers. Kinda like when apple launches new products causing AT&T's servers to crash. Just a thought.. lol. My mobile app is not working either.

Yes, the anonymouse link works for browsing only, but not if you want to get to your account or post. No, California didn't have a 10 point earthquake. Yes, they've been having small 3.0 ers and lower. Reportedly there is a power outage, but I've yet to find anything in the news about a power outage, but it makes sense.

Thanks for the posts about changing DNS. Is there any official note from Craigslist that they are working on the problems? I mean, they can not expect everyone to do that so there must be another solution if they have a problem.

I can access the site, but when I try to reply to an ad, my mail server cannot find the mail (MX) host for (DNS can't locate). I also used an online tool to do an MX host lookup and it timed out. I'm suspicious that its a DDOS against the DNS servers that craigslist uses.

Why do you all think this is happening? Is it because of hackers? Or because of Craiglist? I did change my Dns, and it works good, but if you post ads, then what's the sense? Cause if no one else can get one. Then there is no point cause no one will see your ad LOL
