Can't Access Consumer Reports - Troubleshooting Instructions

If the site is UP but you cant access the page, try one of the below solutions:

Browser Related Problems

Force a full refresh for the site. This can be achieved by pressing CTRL + F5 keys at the same time on your favourite browser (Firefox, Chrome, Explorer, etc.)

Clear the temporary cache and cookies on your browser to make sure that you have the most recent version of the web page. For instructions choose your browser :

Fix DNS Problems

A Domain Name System (DNS) allows a site IP address (192.168.x.x) to be identified with words (*.com) in order to be remembered more easily, like a phonebook for websites. This service is usually provided by your ISP.

Clear your local DNS cache to make sure that you grab the most recent cache that your ISP has. For Windows - (Start > Command Prompt > type "ipconfig /flushdns" and hit enter). For details choose your operating system :

If you can access a website at office or from a 3G network yet it's not working on your computer, it is a good idea to use an alternative DNS service other than your ISPs. OpenDNS or Google Public DNS are both excellent and free public DNS services.

Check our help page for step-by-step instructions on how to change your DNS.

CR is very slow. Takes in excess of 30 seconds to paint the screen. Longer to load images Have tried on Win10, iOS (iPad) and Chromebook. Other sites are not having difficulty for me. (Not an ISP issue). Has been like this for 2+ days. I pay for online access and can't use it.

Consumer Reports should fire their IT team and get this fixed. I want a refund on my subscription. If they can't control their publicity hound tendencies via these ridiculous reviews of Tesla they should ALL resign.

Consumer Reports is DOWN, and should have been predicted. I'm guessing the report on Tesla is making this happen. The rest of us who pay a subscription and need to log on are SOL. I am in dire need of replacing my AC system ASAP or risk having my basement mold, so this is a SERIOUS issue for me now. I hope other sites have reliable ratings for Trane vs. Carrier systems. Ugh.

Unable to access Consumer Reports since Friday. I am PAYING for this website, it's not like it's a FREEBIE. What's up and when will it be back online?

Paul Knauth · 12 July 2014 - 20:09
United States · Cox Communications · Firefox 30.0 on Windows

It is without doubt the worst online experience I have ever had. If a couple of weeks went by without my accessing the site, I would always have to get a new password. And sometimes even that didn't work. Nearly every time I tried to log on, it would tell me my subscription had expired. Then I canceled and they're still charging my credit card. I've now disputed it with my CC issuer. Yes, they should do a report and give themselves a "Not Acceptable" rating.

Don Phillips · 21 April 2014 - 09:55

Sometimes we are in need at a particular moment. This is the case for me. I don't think I will be renewing as I am going to have to purchase truck batteries from wherever that I need This Minute.

John R. Butts · 14 February 2014 - 11:05

I was a member years ago and had problems; just rejoined and site is still whacked!

David Brown · 17 November 2013 - 09:18

I renewed my subscription to the website about 2 weeks ago. It worked OK for a few days, but I have not been able to access it since. i was told by a telephone rep that the site is not operating properly. When a password reset is requested, the link is never sent. Someone needs to do a "consumer report" on ConsumerReports.org!
