Can't Access Cbs News - Troubleshooting Instructions

If the site is UP but you cant access the page, try one of the below solutions:

Browser Related Problems

Force a full refresh for the site. This can be achieved by pressing CTRL + F5 keys at the same time on your favourite browser (Firefox, Chrome, Explorer, etc.)

Clear the temporary cache and cookies on your browser to make sure that you have the most recent version of the web page. For instructions choose your browser :

Fix DNS Problems

A Domain Name System (DNS) allows a site IP address (192.168.x.x) to be identified with words (*.com) in order to be remembered more easily, like a phonebook for websites. This service is usually provided by your ISP.

Clear your local DNS cache to make sure that you grab the most recent cache that your ISP has. For Windows - (Start > Command Prompt > type "ipconfig /flushdns" and hit enter). For details choose your operating system :

If you can access a website at office or from a 3G network yet it's not working on your computer, it is a good idea to use an alternative DNS service other than your ISPs. OpenDNS or Google Public DNS are both excellent and free public DNS services.

Check our help page for step-by-step instructions on how to change your DNS.

Can't load the Breaking News page. Seems to be tied to a Firefox update load but is the only site this is happening with.

cant login with any social logins. Never receive registration email confirmation. Sucks! No wonder they hardly have any comments. Need a new webmaster!

Have not been able to access CBSNews for the past few hours; response has been slow all day, using IE11

Haven't been able to access for at least the last 3 days. Tried Firefox, Chrome, Safari. They all just gave me a blank white page.

Bill Armstrong · 15 May 2014 - 15:18

I just re-added CBSNews Top Stories RSS Feed to Outlook 2007 and now it works fine. The improvement could possibly be a result of the 33 MS Office updates that were loaded overnight, including SP3.

At any rate, I am glad to have found isitdownrightnow as a new troubleshooting tool. I found the feedback and troubleshooting instructions very informative.

Yes, I disabled AdBlockPlus for, and now it comes up. Thanks to Mary and Scott for the info.

Can't bring it up on Chrome but can on IE - but I don't use IE!
Edit: Turning off AdBlock for the page allows it to come up in Chrome.

Just a blank page for 3 days now.

Bill Armstrong · 14 May 2014 - 15:15
United States · Verizon Internet Services · Internet Explorer 9.0 on Windows

I view RSS feeds with MS Outlook 2007 with Vista. The CBS News Top Stories has not been updating for 2-3 days. Today I removed the link from Outlook, but when I attempted to rebuild the connection I get the " ... problem connecting to the server" error message. Clearing all temporary internet files and DNS cache did not help. My other RSS feeds work fine. This site reports it is up and reachable.

Mary Couette · 14 May 2014 - 13:44

It was blocked for me on firefox but not chrome or IE. On FireFox I have the AdBlockPlus, disable it or remove the filter ##skinAd and CBsnews loads fine.

CBSNews has been down for me in Nashville since early yesterday (Comcast Cable). Don't know why this site says it's just me when all these other folks are having the same issue?

I have emptied the Safari cache, but the CBS site still does not open.

Frank Elliott · 10 March 2014 - 13:16
United States · Comcast Cable

I'm unable to view videos on the site. I tried to look at a number of them from the past episode of 60 minutes. I was really interested in writing about the ALMA huge radio telescope array in the Atacama Desert high mountain site in Chile so I could share it with my Google Plus subscribers, but all I get is a black screen. I have a newer iMac just 11 months old and very powerful. It is working fine. Has anybody else tried to watch videos on the site? Were you successful? Thanks

Terry Herman · 17 January 2014 - 15:30

...pages reported as bad... taking too long to view... can't make comments to stories...

Troy Jones · 22 November 2013 - 16:55

I only get a choice between their major news sections-nothing else and everything else is coming up for me.
