Can't Access BT - Troubleshooting Instructions

If the site is UP but you cant access the page, try one of the below solutions:

Browser Related Problems

Force a full refresh for the site. This can be achieved by pressing CTRL + F5 keys at the same time on your favourite browser (Firefox, Chrome, Explorer, etc.)

Try alternative urls such as,

Clear the temporary cache and cookies on your browser to make sure that you have the most recent version of the web page. For instructions choose your browser :

Fix DNS Problems

A Domain Name System (DNS) allows a site IP address (192.168.x.x) to be identified with words (*.com) in order to be remembered more easily, like a phonebook for websites. This service is usually provided by your ISP.

Clear your local DNS cache to make sure that you grab the most recent cache that your ISP has. For Windows - (Start > Command Prompt > type "ipconfig /flushdns" and hit enter). For details choose your operating system :

If you can access a website at office or from a 3G network yet it's not working on your computer, it is a good idea to use an alternative DNS service other than your ISPs. OpenDNS or Google Public DNS are both excellent and free public DNS services.

Check our help page for step-by-step instructions on how to change your DNS.

Having Problems with Accessing

I registered a complaint on 1 August as I was unable to access my emails, its now 16 August and I still have no emails. I was told I am one of a few long-time BT customers who started off with Yahoo mail. The problem is being dealt with by Yahoo and not BT! BT Email department told me "the people of the Yahoo department are limited in numbers and extremely busy with issues"... constant buck passing ... will I ever get access to my emails back!!??? Disgraceful.

It looks as if this login to BT Mail has been a serious issue for months I have had this same problem twice this time its been going on for 3 days. After several attempts by BT technical they again admitted that the E Mail server was down and that it would take 72 hours to fix looking at comments on this page this has been an issue since March. I have had a call back which took 2 days, it still could't be sorted so it has now been passed to a supervisor for another call back. I have tried ringing their head office which is in London only to be told I cannot speak to anyone in this country so they put me thro to technical in India again.
This is BRITISH Telecom does noboby oversee what it happening from the London head office. I have been with BT for 30 yrs but this is making me think wether to change.Since they changed the E Mail site a couple of years ago they seem to have installed a lot of issues with it. Bring back the old E Mail system.

I live in Johannesburg but have been emailing friends/family who have BT internet in Scotland and every email I send them comes back with an error message 'too many messages'. When I asked my service provider here in SA to investigate (thinking it was my side) they reverted with this message:

"BT’s own customers have been struggling with this error for a number of months without any solution/feedback from BT directly. It also seems to involve the same BT server Please see"

Is BT doing anything to resolve this problem?

Cannot log in to BT Mail, second day in a row. Can't get through on the phone and live chat took 25 minutes to connect! Was told there was a major service area, Scottish Borders. Asked when it'll be fixed and was told 'don't know but our engineers are working on it'. Affecting our business too. Absolute shambles.

However, it came back on again this evening and all seems to be well again so far. I changed by land line because I moved house. The site will not allow me to pay for line rental saver for my new line. Neither will it allow me to change my account details. Two phone calls to call centre in India revealed that there is a discrepancy between my details and the details recorded on line. Promises to sort it out and phone me within 48 hours were broken. Left e-mail which they have ignored. Apparently I have to wait 7 days before complaining again.

I think there is a problem as I cannot access my e-mail since yesterday from my mac. Keep being told that the btinternet server failed. checked all my IMAP SMTP settings all correct but error message keeps coming up. Tried accessing my BT mail account over the internet and login says can't log in to your BT 'YAHOO' mail account please try logging in to your account at Yahoo mail!
