Can't Access Bluehost - Troubleshooting Instructions

If the site is UP but you cant access the page, try one of the below solutions:

Browser Related Problems

Force a full refresh for the site. This can be achieved by pressing CTRL + F5 keys at the same time on your favourite browser (Firefox, Chrome, Explorer, etc.)

Clear the temporary cache and cookies on your browser to make sure that you have the most recent version of the web page. For instructions choose your browser :

Fix DNS Problems

A Domain Name System (DNS) allows a site IP address (192.168.x.x) to be identified with words (*.com) in order to be remembered more easily, like a phonebook for websites. This service is usually provided by your ISP.

Clear your local DNS cache to make sure that you grab the most recent cache that your ISP has. For Windows - (Start > Command Prompt > type "ipconfig /flushdns" and hit enter). For details choose your operating system :

If you can access a website at office or from a 3G network yet it's not working on your computer, it is a good idea to use an alternative DNS service other than your ISPs. OpenDNS or Google Public DNS are both excellent and free public DNS services.

Check our help page for step-by-step instructions on how to change your DNS.

bluehost is down....!!!

Ben Jenkins · 16 April 2014 - 17:59

Bluehost will never offer reimbursement for lost revenue, they will not even discount a month of hosting. I guess to make myself feel better I can click on every bluehost ad I see. Click... $2... Click... $2... Click... $2.... Hey at least they will have great conversions!

I had stuck with Bluehost through all previous outages but this latest 28hr outage was the last straw for me. I'm so happy that I didn't pay for my VPN a year in advance like their CS wanted me to. I've moved my VPS to KnownHost who do offer a 99.9% uptime SLA, for every 0.1% below 99.9% uptime, they refund you 10% of your monthly costs; so if it drops to 99% uptime you'll get a free month. Nice to see a host put their money where their mouth is!

El Cupon Loco · 17 April 2014 - 14:55

After 32 hours of my site being down, i could not hold any longer. I signed up a while ago for VPS service with for a fraction of the cost, redundancy advantage, better backup and recovery options. For been a customer for over 6 years I think I deserved better. Bye Bluehost. Won't miss you for sure.

Christine Wiltshire · 17 April 2014 - 14:44

Can't get anyone on the phone for help with outgoing email. Outgoing server is down and I am loosing business due to it.

Daron Walton · 17 April 2014 - 13:57

Blue host owes it to their customers to keep communication open. You can't call and reach a single person. I called them last night about 9"00pm and I was told 1 -2 hrs . This appears to be the standard answer. Blue host will loose customers due to lack of communication.

Sorry But I will be changing also

Chuck Marunde · 17 April 2014 - 09:59

Here's something to think about folks. The chances of your site being hacked at Bluehost are about 1 in 200, 000, but the chances of Bluehost technical incompetence taking your site down in the next 12 months: 7 in 10.

One more thought for all of you thinking that "this too shall pass": I've been here three times now with my sites down. Each time Bluehost told me they were upgrading and that the problem would be solved, and it would be smooth sailing into the future. Turned out to be false--three times. I'm not waiting around again for this to happen. Fool me once, shame on Bluehost, fool me three times, shame shame shame on me for staying with Bluehost.

Tamer Abdelnaeem · 17 April 2014 - 09:35

i can not believe this kind of bad service and the company is not transparent at all. i invinting all of you to take one action against this company

Miguel Hidalgo · 17 April 2014 - 08:55

Whew! I contacted Bluehost via chat just now, and my websites on a dedicated server are still down since yesterday morning. This is the third time, plus their application called Cloudflare also messed me up. :(

Ben Jenkins · 17 April 2014 - 08:32

The only information coming from Bluehost is apologies, they offer no real information that we business people can base decisions on. Our partners in business are not helping us decide what is best for our businesses. I think they are scared to give us the real information fearing too many people will leave. That may be the case but the information should be shared so WE can decide. I was able to login to my CP and extract my files. Others that are still down might be able to do the same.

Chuck Marunde · 17 April 2014 - 08:15

Thousands are waiting to move their sites from Bluehost to more reliable companies, and there are many more reliable companies.

It's so bad right now at Bluehost, they are not answering the phones. Bluehost is in serious trouble folks. No one knows when our sites will be back up. Could be never.

Mike Wasdin · 17 April 2014 - 08:14

I maintain the websites for several different businesses. Some of them are on Blue Host and Some on Just Host. Just Host is back up, but Blue Host is still down, which is kind of odd since they are owned by the same company.

Don Mousseau · 17 April 2014 - 07:50

I don't think any company on the planet is void if this type of issue. Their machines run by humans… Always a chance of disaster!

Chuck Marunde · 17 April 2014 - 07:25

My VPS is down for 20 hours now. Absolutely done with Bluehost this time. Third time folks. Totally unreliable service at Bluehost. Moving all my sites away from Bluehost as soon as they are back up. God, when will that be?

TJ Sokoll · 17 April 2014 - 07:23

We are still down! I dont know why this site is saying is up and reachable. If you go to there twitter account you will be able to get minute to minute updates on whats happening.

George Michalis · 17 April 2014 - 04:50

We signed with BlueHost only 3 days ago and we experienced their server down for more than 16 hours! Tragic! Will they compensate the loss of revenue and reputation for my company? Amateurs….

Lori Stevenson Snow · 17 April 2014 - 04:19

been down since around 1:00 on Wednesday, It is now Thursday 7:19 am and I am still down. How can i run a business!!!

Mark Hicks · 17 April 2014 - 04:09

It looks like this failure will mean that HostGator finally drops off the HyperSpin list:

Arun Nath · 17 April 2014 - 02:29

My 60 sites are down from last 5 hours. when this issue solve my all client are lossing their business... I am very disspointed

Saša Đorđević · 17 April 2014 - 01:34

Never again! As soon as I can reach my data I'm leaving Bluehost! It has been more than 16 hrs and with every minute I'm losing money.

Ian Anthony Jones · 17 April 2014 - 00:51

My VPS has been down 14 hours and counting. Constant short outages for the last year but this is the worst. I searched and found a fantastic hosting company with almost 100% up time, latest server hardware, OC3 connection to Internet backbone and better prices than Bluehost! Check them out I'll be moving as soon as my server comes back up.

Cheri Vanderheydt Searle · 17 April 2014 - 00:48

Hostgator sites just went back online maybe bluehost has as well

Lissie Heire · 16 April 2014 - 21:53

My site is down for past 12 hours and i'm loosing my customers as well as revenue... whats going on? cant even get them on chat..

Topnews Net · 16 April 2014 - 21:24

My site has been intermittently unreachable over the past week or so. This is beginning to be annoying and aggravating. Is there a legitimate reason for this... Upgrades, system maintenance, network enhancements??? It would nice to know...

Johnathan Berner · 16 April 2014 - 21:04

Lets all sue. Even if we signed a contract saying that their downtime is not there fault, it does not mean we all don't have a case. This could be a class action lawsuit. I have a stock market site and we lost paying members today. Some of our paid members are multimillionaires. There are very unhappy. So if we all get together we can settle this in court easy. Again, yes their is a contract but that does not make it legal. You can sign a contract that gives you the right to kill your friend but it would still be illegal.

Elsie Roach Vsmm · 16 April 2014 - 20:49

Hostgator is down also and has been all day some of them say. My site on Bluehost was working and some of my clients, but read on Hostgator that some Bluehost sites were down too, ugh Wonder if the same owner bought both. Hopefully it will get fixed I have referred alot of people to Bluehost. Not sure who would be better though as Hostgator too having the same problem. ugh

Dan Brown · 16 April 2014 - 20:35

This would never happen years ago but the last 12 months BH has been down a lot more frequently, perhaps it is being targetted more? perhaps this is because of Heartbleed? I for one have had much better service over at a Wordpress specialist host like WP Engine see under Wordpress Specific Hosting - Their uptime is much better than BH, I have many sites on BOTH platforms

Chuck Marunde · 16 April 2014 - 20:26

My sites have been down for a full day. This is the third time my sites have been down with BH. What a nightmare, and my sites are still down and it's 8:25 p.m.. No doubt I need to move my sites to a reliable service, but what a hassle that will be. Who in the world has a reliable service better than BH? I honestly don't know, and any of those services who call me will tell me anything. How do I know who is reliable? I am very upset with Bluehost, and I cannot even calculate how much I have lost because my sites have been down all day.

Stephanie Marie · 16 April 2014 - 19:52

email as well as our website is still down - unacceptable!

Donnie Toivola · 16 April 2014 - 19:39

I can't believe there aren't any straight answers from the staff. 5 Hours ago I was told (by BH phone support) that it would be taken care of "in an hour or 2". As most of you, I'm losing income and this is just frustrating. Any good alternatives to BH? I'm just now starting to look.

Joe D Wells · 16 April 2014 - 19:36

My site are down at BH, been having problems for several weeks, which they always said is was fault, even move site to a diff server and now down again. If I left BH, where should I go. I use a lot of word press sites

drew schmaltz · 16 April 2014 - 19:28

If I could access my server I would have already switched to a new provider. Bluehost's best chance at keeping me now is to continue ensuring my server is unavailable as I may continue paying just in case it ever does become available. The moment it's up -> I'm gone.

Edit: Let's say BlueHost had a 99.9% up time guarantee. At this point, my site would have to be accessible every single second for 500 straight days.

Alandroid .net Arabs Market Apps · 16 April 2014 - 19:18

I think that if you have a team with the help of a maintenance efficiency of the problem has been solved

Douglas Schrift · 16 April 2014 - 19:14

My VPS was and is still down all day. This is really not good Bluehost. I'm leaving BH as soon as I can get back on.

Steve Cartwright · 16 April 2014 - 19:06

Down 10 hours but don't worry Bluehost got their site back up first I see... so these and other stats look better than they are

Brandon Swenson · 16 April 2014 - 19:03

Sites still down... We just purchased a dedicated, hope it comes back up soon..

Glen Canning · 16 April 2014 - 18:10

VPS and email has been down for almost 8 hours. Brutal!

Shari Fiegel Lerer · 16 April 2014 - 17:33

Our cancer charity website, dedicated server and email down since 12:54pm - That's 8 hours now. Did they get bombed? Are they out of business? What the heck? Was there a fire? no power? this is really harming us greatly.

Open Stock Project · 16 April 2014 - 17:22

Contacted them yesterday to report intermittent down time - standard maintenance they said, then kicked me out of their live chat!! I think they knew about this in advance - thanks for the heads up Bluehost....

Ryan Brown · 16 April 2014 - 17:20

I wish I would get a message letting me know about down time, even if its all the suddenly. Guess I'll fire off emails when they let me.

Henry Groover · 16 April 2014 - 17:07

Apparently when EIG (Endurance International Group) acquired Bluehost, they tried to make some data center changes. One of their techs let that slip during one of the previous outages in 2013 (it wasn't the really big one in August, it was another outage only an hour long or so). Obviously they didn't get it right and still haven't gotten it right:
I hope the shareholders of EIG are taking note of this and will hold management accountable for the mass exodus of formerly loyal customers.

Sangria Dance · 16 April 2014 - 17:04

I am so disappointed with the Bluehost services today. I haven't updated my website for while, but just exactly today, when I was trying to change and add a lot of content, it is not responding... Looks like all the work I've been doing for so long today is worthless. The worst thing is that there have been no explanations, apologies or promises to fix it by certain time. How long should we wait? Is all the new info going to be lost? · 16 April 2014 - 16:49

It's time to leave this hosting company. I have so many downtime.

Cari Horsley · 16 April 2014 - 16:27

Well after servers come up I will be transferring. Been with them two years and tired of 100+ plus calls I get saying email and websites down. This is to much to bear. Thanks blue host for the 150.00 I pay a month for a dedicated server and its always down.

LGBT Youth Allies · 16 April 2014 - 16:11

Bluehost works great when it works! But occasionally it goes down for many hours, even if you pay for a dedicated server. This is a big problem.

Chris LeBaron · 16 April 2014 - 15:36

Can access their homepage now, but cpanel is still down!

Elio Lamaa · 16 April 2014 - 15:22

They better f#!king pay my SEO fees to rerank on google if i get indexed.

Shane Gas Crusher Stiehl · 16 April 2014 - 15:17

Its probably because on the 22nd all webformats will require HTML 5 .by the W3C ...wait until they tell you that you have to completely rebuild it.

Larry Brooks · 16 April 2014 - 15:09

Finally got on the phone with someone there, but I don't know why they even answered since he said, "We know there's a problem, but have no idea at all WHAT it is, WHEN it'll be fixed, they don't give me information about it at all. Can help you with anything else?"
Gee. Thanks for nothing.

Kyna Kalinowski · 16 April 2014 - 14:57

@Bluehost doesn't guarantee 100% server up-time and they're usually pretty good about crediting your account to compensate. Good luck finding any better for anywhere near that same price. :)

Henry Groover · 16 April 2014 - 14:45

Another multiple-hour outage so soon after the New Year's Eve outage. It gets worse and worse. I've started moving to LiquidWeb which seems to be better VPS for about the same money, and they actually seem to care about their uptime. I know there are lots of things that can cause outages but BlueHost doesn't offer any explanation, particularly to VPS customers who are paying big $$$ and getting this kind of crappy uptime performance. I think BlueHost got acquired by some big holding group and they have turned to complete crap under the new management, probably all their good techs are moving away too (if they haven't already).

Fuss Free Cooking · 16 April 2014 - 14:28

My site was down yesterday for an hour and more than 3 hours (+counting) today. This is simply not acceptable, not to mention I had to increase my monthly hosting fee in hope to get a stable service. I am very disappointed.

Eng Furat Jarad · 16 April 2014 - 14:24

just go to bluehost official page

Andrew Wo · 16 April 2014 - 14:22

David Alcorn · 16 April 2014 - 14:12

So much for reliable hosting, granted my websites are still up but unable to get to cpanel to manage account :(

Dominic Urbano · 16 April 2014 - 14:11

I have finally had enough. I have migrated my sites off of BlueHost and will be cancelling all of my BlueHost accounts.

Steven Palmquist · 16 April 2014 - 14:03

The control panel has been down or working intermittently most of the afternoon but I can get to the website and use FTP.

Liz Robertson · 16 April 2014 - 14:02

My dedicated VPS server on BlueHost has been down for 3 hours, taking our website and company email down with it. I tried calling Tech Support but they were having phone problems and couldn't hear me. Then I tried CHAT but couldn't connect, so I finally was able to submit a support ticket on my 6th try. So far I've heard nothing back. Why don't they inform their customers when there is a problem? My personal email is still working so I would know if I got a notification. It's impossible to run our business this way. Does anyone have a suggestion for a better web host?

Sharing My Life Stories · 16 April 2014 - 13:53

All of my Bluehost VPS sites are down. HostGator is up. What a hassle.

Yvonne Haddix · 16 April 2014 - 13:49

I can't access any of the sites I manage right now.

Emily Journey · 16 April 2014 - 13:41

I have VPS with bluehost and all of my websites are down. I switched to bluehost from westhost because of downtime issues. I teach WordPress and I always recommend bluehost to my clients. We'll see how this pans out.
I wonder if this is a malicious server attack or something else?

Jacqueline Gault · 16 April 2014 - 13:39

aAARGH! Its up. Its down. Its up. Its down. For the last 2 hours its been spotty (email). I sneak in a couple emails, then its down for 20 minutes, then I sneak in another email. Just hoping that they are being delivered and I am receiving all responses. Not the most efficient way to conduct business, Bluehost!

Chuck Marunde · 16 April 2014 - 13:26

My site is down too, and I'm not sure how many of my bluehost sites are down. This is the third time in so many months. Is bluehost getting to be unreliable? This is no way for me to run a business that is Internet dependant. Not happy about how bluehost is not using mirror systems or automatic backups systems that transfer without a glitch. Apparently bluehost doesn't know how to do that.

JG Randall · 16 April 2014 - 13:11

Blue host Down for everything.Company Site + All Hosted Sites... Host Gator Down For my VPS. WTH???

Jamie Dolan · 16 April 2014 - 12:39

I've had some sites with them for about 6 months now and in general when they are up and running they are great. I'm a bit disappointed at the number of outages I had in the past 6 months. Pingdom says that since Oct 1st I've had 9h 37m of downtime on 154 separate occasions. At least 3 of them that I recall were during the business day and none of them were planed maintenance, at least as far as I was told.

Hannah Goering · 16 April 2014 - 12:32

While Bluehost is "UP" right now, I am getting this error: "Your domain cannot be assigned at this time. To avoid potential problems, all domain operations have been paused on this server while a reported issue is investigated and resolved. Please wait a few minutes and try again. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. If this problem persists, please contact Customer Support." Annoying.

David VanBuren · 16 April 2014 - 12:31

Blue Host has always been great with customer service they do have downtime on shared. Hostmonster is part of the same hosting they are down also.

Christopher Shifflett · 16 April 2014 - 12:27

WTF is going on?!?! All my sites and my friends sites are down! Ive been on hold with bluehost for over 45 minute... I cant believe this is happening

Leslie B Green Ocko · 16 April 2014 - 12:24

I have been with BH for years and have many client sites hosted here. I also have many client sites hosted on GoDaddy and I have NEVER had issues with GD like here. I am in the process of moving all to GoDaddy. This is assenine as I cannot conduct MY business without email, and reflects poorly on me. I have given BH benefit of doubt over and over, now I am over.

Armin Ruiz · 16 April 2014 - 12:23

Public sites are working but can't log in to CP. Takes forever. Just bought a site and can't load wordpress on it either. noon, 4-16-2014 los angeles

Debbie Dallison Moore · 16 April 2014 - 12:22

It doesn't seem to matter where you go - they all seem to suck these days. I have been through 10 hosts in the past year - all had major problems that caused me downtime, lost clients and major stress. The only solution is to have a second instance of your site hosted on a completely separate server, and use a failover dns solution like

David Prosper · 16 April 2014 - 12:16

Bluehost is *barely* up at the moment. As in the site loads, but logging into the control panel brings up a "Service Unavailable" message after a several minute cursor spin. Our hosted site is down as well.

Debbie Dallison Moore · 16 April 2014 - 12:14 is actually pretty good. You have to know how to configure things yourself, but affordable and good uptime.

Monis Malik · 16 April 2014 - 12:08

whats the rubbish service bluehost is.. my all site are down since 1 hours.. no chat no phone call, and even they are not resolving

Jon Lillian · 16 April 2014 - 12:03

Yep - took the bait and did VPS because they got me blacklisted & VPS has been even more problems. Some techs know what they're talking about and others don't (like anywhere I guess) - but way too many outages and "connectivity" issues - time to look for a new host - now I'll be a refugee from 1and1 and Bluehost. Anyone know how Yahoo is? other suggestions?

Ben Jenkins · 16 April 2014 - 11:49

VPS is down more often than their shared hosting, does not make sense. Have a shared hosting account and it goes down, but it is somewhat rare. Added VPA and I have had VPS hosting for 1 month now and I had to contact TechSupport 4 times dues to control panel issues. Now just down. Sucks

Jon Lillian · 16 April 2014 - 11:40

am really tired of Bluehost - was a refugee form 1and1 - but Bluehost has been a source of lots of new problems... servers become inaccessible - butthey call it a connectivity issue - ratyher than being down - January 2014, adn now again in March and April - was falsely acused of being a spammer so I switched to their VPS - and now they are down all the time. They also have phone queue problems, long wait time arrrrghhh

Gail Jones · 16 April 2014 - 11:39

sites are very slow, support keeps saying it's due to throttling, but there is not indication of throttling in cpanel. I'm have no confidence in their support - also seems like there was an issue judging by other responses here. Starting to migrate my sites to another host, going to try Geek Storage. Geek Storage currently has a coupon running 30OFF4LIFE. Tired, tired, tired of Bluehost.

Oscar Castro · 16 April 2014 - 11:34

Brigette Cee · 16 April 2014 - 11:30

Bluehost is still down! I did get through to their tech support after being on hold for more than 20 minutes and they said that there is some internal issues with some servers. This network issue could take 15 - 45 minutes to repair. Well that was an hour ago that I received that communication! And still can't access my server or websites.

Bryce Leo · 16 April 2014 - 11:29

Brandon Barclay · 16 April 2014 - 11:07

can't get through chat or phone. backend down. anyone else experiencing this?

Kenny Red Leader Schmied · 16 April 2014 - 11:03

Finally made it through to chat support after holding for 30 minutes, and they had a "recording" talk to me like it was a real person telling me they're aware of the issues and are trying to fix it. I know it was a recording because no matter what I said "he" didn't respond, but kept saying things like "I hope you can hear me, I can't hear you but...". Yikes. I'll be moving to a different host ASAP.

Benjamin STone · 16 April 2014 - 11:01

TImeouts on all my webpages.

BROASIS · 16 April 2014 - 10:49

Yep, definitely down. Online chat doesn't work, logging in to cpanel says I'm locked out because of too many bad login attempts, ticket system is broken, and I've been on hold for 15 minutes. Site is down as well. What a miserable experience.

And now a 30 minute wait time for chat that I finally "got through"? Ridiculous!

Mohamed Anan · 16 April 2014 - 10:40

Bluehost is definitely down.
My websites are up but I can't access my Cpanel at all. Their server is not responding and their chat support is not functioning I get a message says couldn't connect to server!! Seriously!!! They became so bad I can't even believe I have paid for their service. And their ticketing system is down too. I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS SHIT
