Can't Access AOL - Troubleshooting Instructions

If the site is UP but you cant access the page, try one of the below solutions:

Browser Related Problems

Force a full refresh for the site. This can be achieved by pressing CTRL + F5 keys at the same time on your favourite browser (Firefox, Chrome, Explorer, etc.)

Clear the temporary cache and cookies on your browser to make sure that you have the most recent version of the web page. For instructions choose your browser :

Fix DNS Problems

A Domain Name System (DNS) allows a site IP address (192.168.x.x) to be identified with words (*.com) in order to be remembered more easily, like a phonebook for websites. This service is usually provided by your ISP.

Clear your local DNS cache to make sure that you grab the most recent cache that your ISP has. For Windows - (Start > Command Prompt > type "ipconfig /flushdns" and hit enter). For details choose your operating system :

If you can access a website at office or from a 3G network yet it's not working on your computer, it is a good idea to use an alternative DNS service other than your ISPs. OpenDNS or Google Public DNS are both excellent and free public DNS services.

Check our help page for step-by-step instructions on how to change your DNS.

AOL has been screwy for weeks. I have used AOL since I got my first computer and this flashing back and forth and nor responding is making me think that another server would be better. WHY IS THIS HAPPENING ??? It is infuriating !

Gloria Schmidt Urias · 9 hours 17 mins ago

Unable to obtain mail.

Joyce Jacofsky Negrette · 2 days 8 hours 31 mins ago

I can't access AOL mail on either Chrome or firefox

Linda Golden Ears · 3 days 6 hours 16 mins ago

AOL has been hacked horribly and they are not fixing the problem! Cant change password - says Sorry, we cannot process your request at this moment. Please try again later.

Brenda Nuñez · 16 April 2014 - 20:58

When i log in to my email it says account has been cancelled, and its says error 11. Anyone know whats going on?

Terry Klima · 16 April 2014 - 09:09

issues sending outgoing email mail Keep getting message "You can only send one e-mail at a time. Please wait for the current e-mail to be sent, then try again. (11:51:18)"

Brenda Ross · 16 April 2014 - 08:57

cannot access wed pages... says whoops and then quickly dissappers.

Carol Brotherton · 13 April 2014 - 08:50

I am sick to death of AOL at the moment. I have struggled for days to connect via AOL shortcut, can get on internet via google and chrome. Just taken nearly 20 minutes to load AOL home page. Benn with them 15 years but on the verge of swapping to BT - I live in UK

Cathy Neighbors Hudson · 13 April 2014 - 07:00

Dont know about Charter but I do know AOL has issues and has had for some time. Ive had limited sucess by forwarding my email from AOL to my Gmail. Ill get emails on my gmail that dont show up on AOL. AOL sucks

Lantz Sharp · 11 April 2014 - 20:05

Its Charter. Turn wifi off on my phone and sign right in, turn Charter wifi on and won't connect.

Jean Jim Miner · 11 April 2014 - 19:01

Charter in Rochester, MN not working. Public WiFi is fine

Edit: Should have said AOL on Charter is not working! Public WiFi at Applebee's works fine! MUST BE A CHARTER ISSUE!!! ??

Carol Davey · 11 April 2014 - 18:30

After reading these latest comments, I called Charter. They deny it being on their part. They have a monopoly in my area and no other choices for internet service. (Can't even get through our DirectTV "due to 'competition restrictions' we cannot provide you with email services at this time".)

Nancy Watters Marti · 11 April 2014 - 18:01

It's Charter. Our business account has been down off and on for a full week. They told us there was a server issue. Didn't have any problems at home though until today. Now I can't access email here either. It is totally charter and they really suck!

Tabitha Cruse Peterson · 11 April 2014 - 14:55

Just clld Charter and was told it was something internal with AOL server and Charter, and that they were working on fixing the issue, and does not have a time frame to when it would be resolved. But if you are using Charter WiFi on your phone, turn that off and use the 3G/4G Network to get your mail and sign into website. That's the only way that i'm able to get my email. So its is a Charter/ AOL issue.

Juli Spohn-Stevens · 11 April 2014 - 14:25

Charter told me the same as they told David, not an issue here, not sure why it's happening. Usually will resolve itself. Still no AOL, waiting for an email that I have to respond to and am kind of stuck now.

P David Welch · 11 April 2014 - 13:52

I spoke to a real human at AOL in the last 15 minutes. I was told they are aware of this problem, that it is largely a Charter issue ONLY. They said whether on purpose or not Charter has some filter set that is blocking AOL. I believe the guy because this has happened before in the last 3-6 months. And although some Charter reps denied any reports, it was clear they were lying or the info was not being relayed to their tech people. Charter says it's AOL. AOL says it's Charter. Interestingly most of the people commenting mention Charter. I have been down for 14 hours.

Jenny Baker-Sinderman · 11 April 2014 - 13:36

Haven't been able to access AOL all day- I can get on google or internet explorer but even on them can't get to AOL! Just wanted to read my email!

Rosanne Fullington · 11 April 2014 - 12:11

Called Charter at 9:00 a.m. They said it is not a Charter issue. It is an AOL issue. It is now 5 hours later and still can't get onto AOL. I live in O'Fallon, MO. And, of course, if you are not a paying AOL customer, you can't talk to a human on AOL even just to ask the question if AOL is down and when it will be back up!I think I'll need to change to another provider. Is there a way to move about 200 addresses from AOL to Gmail without having to input each one by one ?

Kathleen Reineke · 11 April 2014 - 11:44

Also unable to get on; however, I can get my aol mail through my iphone when I take off the wifi. Told this to charter but they still say it is AOL.

Juli Spohn-Stevens · 11 April 2014 - 11:43

I've had issues since this morning at 7am - have not been able to get onto AOL. Tech support at charter said they have no reports of any problems. Basically, have to hope AOL will return eventually.

Debi Meixner Dessieux · 11 April 2014 - 11:35

I have not been able to access my aol account since 3 p.m. 4/10/14. O'Fallon, MO. Just spoke with Charter and they said they are getting tons of calls saying that no one is able to get on, it is an AOL problem, NOT Charter. Tried calling AOL was not able to speak to anyone HUMAN...

Roger Smith · 11 April 2014 - 11:33

AOL fix this crap, inaccessible for the last 18 hours, very poor service!

Lynn Sinclair · 11 April 2014 - 11:32

I reported it to Charter almost 2 hours ago.

P David Welch · 11 April 2014 - 10:55

ATTN Charter users-If you are a Charter user CALL Charter tech support to report 888-438-2427. I'm in Wentzville MO, AOL has not been accessible for 10-12 hours. All other internet is accessible. Just an AOL problem. I called Charter 15 minutes ago and was told "no other reports of this problem"

Mike Ku · 11 April 2014 - 09:48

We cannot et on the AOL site with any of our computers no matter whcih web browser we try. There are definite issue!

Nicholas Fitzgerald · 11 April 2014 - 09:35

I'm in Kingdom CIty, MO. Middle of the state at I70 and US54. Can't hit AOL from browser or mail client. Even a ping times out. Not good!

Todd Kussman · 11 April 2014 - 08:15

cannot access AOL from any of three web browsers in St Louis, but it is working from my I-phone

this seems to be a charter internet issue or certain ISP's. i have friends in stl able to connect to using internet connection other than charter...

Fox Pack · 11 April 2014 - 03:03

Tried to access mail, tells me there has been suspicious activity and I need to change my password, but when I enter the security code to get to password change page it tells me "the page has been moved"... no access to email or password change!! Very frustrated!!

Maite Villarreal Bayot · 27 March 2014 - 11:11

Service definitely down today and has been so erratic in the last week. Message of Error Occurred while retrieving your Mail constant now. Missing mail lost in space and some contacts report undeliverable mail system report. This is not good. Will have to switch to my Gmail account for real now

Gene Hudson · 26 March 2014 - 12:10

I cant believe how hard AOL blows, just got an email from Ebay this AM about not paying for an item I bid on and won. Only problem, I was never notified by email that I won.I now get about 5% of the emails I used to get. Can anybody say Class Action Lawsuit. I can imagine how much business people are losing because of AOLs ineptitude

Betty K. Bushey · 26 March 2014 - 12:07

I can log on to the AOL webpage, but am unable to "sign in".

Tom Diekneit · 26 March 2014 - 08:25

AOL seems to be on its LAST LEG, its slower then Hell and takes a long time to start up. It also freezes up alot. I, ve been on aol since 1990 and I dont think I, ll stay with aol much longer -- It sucks !

Karen Roach · 25 March 2014 - 09:17

Will not let me on the page, gives me an error 403

Isha Mostyn · 25 March 2014 - 06:02

My AOL account is not working. I can log-in at the desktop and get into my account but cannot open or delete any emails. I also cannot access the account from my mobile device.tells me my log-in authentication failed. As soon as i can access my email, i will no longer using AOL after 10 years for being a loyal customer.

Trudy Lynn Jackson · 22 March 2014 - 07:02

I can get on AOL, but the news items won't move or open. Also, lately my AOL has been very slow... opening emails, moving from one thing to another, etc. Very slow.

Gene Hudson · 20 March 2014 - 12:49

Has anyone noticed how much AOL sucks now, nothing works, tech support cant fix anything, noone has any answers.I stopped paying them lst montyh and got a gmail account. Cant get email from other AOL users, features dont work. Think AOL is circling the bowl.

The problems started when AOL dropped IE as their pseudo browser and started using Google. Tech support person told me this. What I did on email was open a gmail account and had my mail from aol forwarded to it.You can do this from gmail. Id suggest that all paying customers rethink why they are paying for such crappy service.

Phil Sharples · 20 March 2014 - 10:54

aol service very poor at the minute cant access through screen name, very frustrating and costly, cant afford this sort of unreliable service, should there be recompence...

Kim Guzma · 16 March 2014 - 16:46

Getting the following message when trying to get to AOL through Firefox: FORBIDDEN: You don't have permission to access /_cqr/login on this server.

When I try IE, I am told I need to reset my password because my account has been compromised. Probably had the same email address for at least 20 years, this has never happened.

Sue G. Darton · 9 March 2014 - 05:51

2-25-2014 2:30 Eastern time, AOL won't load properly. I see the home page but it goes into error when I log in, then when i try to access mail.

Barbara Mangum · 25 February 2014 - 11:38

You don't have permission to access /_cqr/login on this server. What's up?

Rough Guide To Nirvana · 25 February 2014 - 11:32

Despite what this site says, AOL IS down... they just posted so on their AOL Mail facebook page: "We're so sorry to anyone unable to access their mail right now. Our team is working to fix the issue and get you back into your inbox as soon as possible. We appreciate your patience and we'll let you know as soon as the problem is solved. We apologize for this frustrating inconvenience."

Peggy Cunningham · 23 February 2014 - 13:15

Edward Garcia · 23 February 2014 - 06:29

I keep getting URL issues and server not found. IS this a AOL problem. All else still working on my computer.

Michael Hanna · 22 February 2014 - 14:54

Yeah, we've had problems for about three weeks. Had a transmitter replaced on out satellite antenna this morning but still can't access AOL's home page. Overloaded, or just poor maintenance?

Suzanne Peace · 22 February 2014 - 11:13

I haven't been able to access AOL. I finally used Google to access my AOL mail and finally received my emails, but can't get on the home page. Help!! This has been going on for 3 days. Is AOL down???

Rebecca Boyles · 21 February 2014 - 11:39

I'm in Pennsylvania and haven't been able to access for at least 3 days now. I'm dreading to see how much mail I have when it finally comes back online. AOL is the only website that isn't working for me. This isn't the first time this has happened, either. I've been with AOL since the early 1990s, and this is getting ridiculous.

Tom Ingall · 21 February 2014 - 08:26

i have been with aol for the past 10 years and my internet stopet working right back on the 5 november with speeds going up and down all day long and not geting any speed on a night till midnight and now i have just changed isp now every works ok and aol told me the problem was down to me haveing rubbish equipment when all the stuff i have is for gameing and then the last time i ring them thay triad to tell me my brand new game console is broken its not cos it works on the next door neighbors internet and now on mian now i have changed isp's all i can say is talktalk as killed aol very fast in my eyes

I just spoke with a friend in the Bahamas... no emails are incoming or outgoing. My business suffered minor losses due to this infraction. Had they sent notification of ongoing issues I could understand. I will be leaving AOL also after 18 years. I still remember dial up. lol At least then my emails went through... sad.

Angie Cook Meeks · 21 February 2014 - 05:06

Still cannot get to AOL - I have already cleared my cache on all browsers I have so I know that's not the problem. 2/21/14

3 days of this crap!!!

Barbara Birkinbine · 19 February 2014 - 12:29

Still having issues with AOL. Intermittent service and continued error messages. Never had this happen before and now it's been this way since 2/14/14. Is this a worker slow down since the announcement by their CEO?

Jodie Mejias · 17 February 2014 - 02:56

I can access the website just fine. I can delete emails. I just can't view my incoming emails since 2142014. it is now 02172014 and still no luck. I need some stuff that is really important and i have not been able to confirm my outgoing emails are available to others

Corrine Santacasa · 15 February 2014 - 08:14

Fred Fredericks · 13 February 2014 - 12:36

Per AOL tech support "we are updating our system and will be up by 1430 hrs on 2/13/14." Update that takes out Socal in the middle of the day BULL !

Karen Katzbeck · 13 February 2014 - 12:29

No connection in Glendale, CA (using Charter). However, I turned off the Wi-Fi on my iPhone and was able to pick up mail.

DrTerri Easley · 13 February 2014 - 12:11

I'm California. I've called twice today (2/13/14). Aol states that the ISPs are not allowing them on their systems (Charter, AT&T, etc.). Sounds like a retaliation or buyout!?! This is bad business for ALL of us who PAY!! Even though I have other options, we all STILL need access to our email!!! And taking off WIFI on an Android does not work!

John Huegele · 13 February 2014 - 12:07

I'm is Sheffield Lake Ohio no AOL here been down all day call support they said it was my computer and for $199.95 they could clean up Trojan I think they didn't want to say it was don't so glad I found this were I'm not all alone

Penny Corbin Gage · 13 February 2014 - 10:50

The problem, I was told by AOL's helper, Jack, is between Charter and AOL. So if you access the Internet through Charter, that's the issue. Jack says it may take 24 hours... from last night??

Michael Richer · 13 February 2014 - 10:42

I can't access AOL from work (ISP: xo communications). However, if I remote to my home system (ISP:TimeWarner/RoadRunner) I can access. XO is routed thru Virginia so issue may be ISPs in East Coast area.

Rhonda Kjargaard · 13 February 2014 - 10:41

From Corbett, Oregon: AOL has not worked since about 8:00 p.m. on February 12. I still have nothing - no homepage, no email access. It is now 10:41 a.m. PST on February 13.

John Farmer · 13 February 2014 - 10:32

I've never had issues in 20 years, other than a brief outage years and years ago. But I can't access anything on AOL all day.

Karen Lee Marlow · 13 February 2014 - 10:25

AOL will not open using the AOL software TCP connection nor from the webpage since last night so it's been over 12 hours since I can access my account or email.

Edit: I forgot to mention this is 2-13-2014 12:30pm . I'm in IL and AOL software and web pagefrom any browser, Mac or PC, will not open . I've not been able to get on any aol service but have gotten some email thru on my smart phone.

Haven't been able to get AOL or AOL email since last night... This is in Utah, but I talked to my brother in NM and he is able to access AOL... What is going on..

Peggy Mew · 13 February 2014 - 10:00

Monrovia, CA AOL down since last night. Called AOL 800 number and they said they couldn't help and I should go on AOL Help on the computer. At least they could put a message that AOL isn't working so all of us would stop going on multiple computers and devices thinking it's our equipment. I agree with the above comment "they are linking it to the Obamacare web site. I thought maybe they were linking it to the NSA website?

Joan Teixeira · 13 February 2014 - 09:43

This is really p__ing me off because I WORK on my computer. Tried everything and can't even get to the aol page today... HELP!!! now

Edit: I forgot to mention I keep getting calls from the Philippines telling me I have a problem and they need to access my computer, I'm wondering now if have anything to do with this? So. Calif..

Michelle Owens-Menz · 13 February 2014 - 09:18

We have not had any AOL service all morning ~ not good for business. Looking for other routes to avoid this issue in the future :/

Bob Dobbs · 13 February 2014 - 09:17

St Louis, MO: is not accessible through charter, but it is through Verizon. After doing a tracert I noticed that charter is going through Washington, DC. I'm guessing a server on the East Coast is without power.

Martyn Jones · 13 February 2014 - 09:11

this sucks major balls i purchased a damn xbox code email delivery and i can't access it because AOL is f#!king down!

Chris Frizzell · 13 February 2014 - 09:09

AOL is not down, but for certain ISPs, it most certainly is. In Houston, TX it is down if you're on CBeyond, but it works just fine on Verizon 4G mobile.

Jac Jacobsen · 13 February 2014 - 08:53

AOL down in Southern California as of 8:50am. I think they are trying to connect it to the Obamacare website to make operational.

Ellen Ensminger Howery · 13 February 2014 - 08:45

Tells me the web page is not available. Tried to access aol in three different browsers. Please fix asap

Jack Gill · 13 February 2014 - 08:19 has been down since late last night. completely down. my wife is speaking to aol on the phone and they are saying there is nothing wrong with their site. Its ounds like Obamacare again.

Valerie Jones · 13 February 2014 - 08:09

Can't access AOL in Dallas, TX either - it's been down since last night. It's 10:00 a.m. Central time here now.

Diane Modray · 13 February 2014 - 08:09

Can't access AOL from any device since last night. Customer service line said I was not eligible for live help. Can't access from my husbands account either. Must be some kind of problem.

The Write Effect · 13 February 2014 - 07:58

Minnesota--Just wasted 45 minutes on the phone with an AOL tech who was desperately insistent that the reason I can't access the AOL site (despite the fact that I can access virtually everything else on the web via two different browsers) is due to some technical error (e.g., evil gnomes, malevolent pixies) residing in MY computer. Funny thing is, I can't access it on my mobile device either. Issue still not resolved. Get a clue AOL...a server is down.

Deann K Wells · 13 February 2014 - 07:46

Minnesota. No access to email since last night on phone or computer. No access to AOL Help online or even AOL search bar. Tried customer service, got a live person and her line dropped me (see told me there was no problem with AOL).....called back twice and both times was disconnect by the phone menu system as it was transferring me to customer service again. Thank you Kristi Kallgren for your post in this forum to let us know you got through & someone actually acknowledged a problem.

Kristi Barnhart Kallgren · 13 February 2014 - 07:14

FYI I just spoke to aol customer service and yes there is an issue and they currently do not have an ETA as to when it will be fixed (oh joy)

Don Kositzke · 13 February 2014 - 06:49

Deb Donathan · 13 February 2014 - 00:13

Have tried every which way to connect to aol for over an hour now without success... What's up with this???

Brooks Ayers · 12 February 2014 - 21:35

I am not receiving my emails! When someone sends me an email, it returns to them saying "undeliverable".

Charles Perkins · 12 February 2014 - 21:35

West Coast. Down for over 2 hours. Might be a glitch caused by the NSA monitoring our phones and emails!
