Can't Access Tripod - Troubleshooting Instructions

If the site is UP but you cant access the page, try one of the below solutions:

Browser Related Problems

Force a full refresh for the site. This can be achieved by pressing CTRL + F5 keys at the same time on your favourite browser (Firefox, Chrome, Explorer, etc.)

Clear the temporary cache and cookies on your browser to make sure that you have the most recent version of the web page. For instructions choose your browser :

Fix DNS Problems

A Domain Name System (DNS) allows a site IP address (192.168.x.x) to be identified with words (*.com) in order to be remembered more easily, like a phonebook for websites. This service is usually provided by your ISP.

Clear your local DNS cache to make sure that you grab the most recent cache that your ISP has. For Windows - (Start > Command Prompt > type "ipconfig /flushdns" and hit enter). For details choose your operating system :

If you can access a website at office or from a 3G network yet it's not working on your computer, it is a good idea to use an alternative DNS service other than your ISPs. OpenDNS or Google Public DNS are both excellent and free public DNS services.

Check our help page for step-by-step instructions on how to change your DNS.

Back on now, but I've already produced a mirror site on another platform. I can recommend Weebly - and also ".tk" to get your free domain name.

Use this form to retrieve your DNS transfer authorization code from Tucows. Sometimes Lycos will not recognize your password as being correct even though you are typing it in correctly. Hopefully this will help anyone who is attempting to move their DNS to another provider.

***LYCOS FILES FOR BANKRUPTCY*** I came across this article on the Lycos Facebook page. Bankruptcy filing could have something to do with this problem. If anyone has found success in using the Tucows interface to retrieve their DNS transfer code, PLEASE SHARE IT. Any help on retrieving our website names to move them elsewhere would be helpful. Thank you.

Tripid certainly seems to be effectively down more than this website says. Actually found some information on the Lycos website that suggests there have DoS attacks on Tripod, and at least from Japan the website has been inaccessible a lot of the time lately. I'd say about half of the attempts fail. The "down just for you" seems a bit unlikely.

Anyway, I rated the website 3 stars mostly for it's longevity. Back when the CGI/Perl was running, I would have given it 4 or possibly even 5 stars if asked on a generous day. If I knew of a better free webhost for my minimalist website, I'd probably move, and absolutely if it had a database that could handle a few thousand books...

Rebecca, Lycos is aware of the situation and are working around the clock to restore our websites. You should not be missing any photos and text, you will be able to verify your site once online of course. Always backup your site and its files. You can always go to wayback and catch what your site looked like on the last snapshot. Then, you can work off the snapshot for the older photos and text.

Rebecca Hulit · 22 January 2014 - 14:40

Yes this has been a while now. I finally sent a message via e-mail to Tripod this morning: Like others here I'm a premier member and have had my account for almost a decade. ["I am not able to login to my account. I have tried for two days. I have owned AND pay monthly for my account and space with you for years and started noticing interference when I was uploading and making edits during the past couple of weeks, and when I placed my cursor or tab to the password area, a new window opened up. Now I'm getting notice that there is no such user (I thought perhaps I should change my password). I can, by memory pull up some of my images such as and, but cannot access my account at all. Please advise. Thank you, Rebecca Hulit]

Matt Parker · 22 January 2014 - 12:50

HIGHLY suggest that everyone change their passwords when this logon problem is resolved. With logon downtime approaching 24 hours, no one is winner here. Members and Lycos will pay the cost - nature of the beast. Bright note, however, Lycos will fix the problem and the websites are functioning and are still being crawled, etc. Lycos, in all fairness, has been outstanding in solving any problem during my 9 years as a premium member.

Karen O'Mara · 22 January 2014 - 12:40

I am having the same problem since this morning also as a premium member can't access the phone number to call. My error message says can't recognize name or password.

Tripod has been down since 1/21 at approx. 1930 hours (CST). Called customer service (premium member has to first log on to locate phone number and call!), but prompt message is that they are aware that "some" members are have difficulty with password / logon issues, and they are currently working on the solution. 9 years as a premium member, and this is a first that I have encountered the present debacle.

I can get as far as attempting to log in. The site won't recognize my username or password, and when I try to use the Reset Password feature it says my email is not on file. I have used this site for years, and I am not mistyping or forgetting. When I try to open a Customer Service ticket, I get a "oage not found" error. Something is amiss, no question.
