Can't Access Site Meter - Troubleshooting Instructions

If the site is UP but you cant access the page, try one of the below solutions:

Browser Related Problems

Force a full refresh for the site. This can be achieved by pressing CTRL + F5 keys at the same time on your favourite browser (Firefox, Chrome, Explorer, etc.)

Clear the temporary cache and cookies on your browser to make sure that you have the most recent version of the web page. For instructions choose your browser :

Fix DNS Problems

A Domain Name System (DNS) allows a site IP address (192.168.x.x) to be identified with words (*.com) in order to be remembered more easily, like a phonebook for websites. This service is usually provided by your ISP.

Clear your local DNS cache to make sure that you grab the most recent cache that your ISP has. For Windows - (Start > Command Prompt > type "ipconfig /flushdns" and hit enter). For details choose your operating system :

If you can access a website at office or from a 3G network yet it's not working on your computer, it is a good idea to use an alternative DNS service other than your ISPs. OpenDNS or Google Public DNS are both excellent and free public DNS services.

Check our help page for step-by-step instructions on how to change your DNS.

Sitemeter was offline four times yesterday according to automatic pings. Since the autoping seems to be scheduled only every two to three hours, I find sometimes it misses shorter Sitemeter dropoffs.

The site is not down, but excruciatingly slow.. and has been for the past few days.. sitemeter at one time, used to actually answer problems submitted.. but no one ever seems to anymore.. I like it when its working, but am getting tired of paying (i use the paid service) for something unreliable.. ideas? how do you get to them to actually complain or get some explanation of the issues?

Unreliable. I have several hit counters on the S51 server, none of them are displaying at the moment and I don't think they are tracking correctly either.

Given that this is a hit counter, unreliable = useless....!

Sitemeter hasn't worked on my blog since Sunday afternoon. I've tried submitting a support ticket each day but I get this message each time I try:

Invalid SQL: SELECT ticketmaskid FROM `swtickets` WHERE `ticketmaskid` = 'QIA-740519'; (Table 'swtickets' is marked as crashed and should be repaired)

This is exceptionally frustrating because I can't even submit a request for support from Site Meter. How do I contact them?

John Gonigam · 26 March 2014 - 09:55

I've been watching for the past year. Sitemeter goes down, on average, about once a week. I haven't been able to figure out average duration. My feeling is around an hour per episode.

SisterLaurel M O'Neal · 19 November 2013 - 11:17
United States · AT&T U-verse

I am still getting no details (locations of visitors, for instance) from sitemeter. I am receiving the same locations as when everything went down on Nov 4th. I have written the company several times with same and different ticket numbers telling them what has been fixed and what still needs to be fixed. There is never a response beyond the initial automated one.

Denis Montalbetti · 14 November 2013 - 18:30
United States · Time Warner Cable

Have been using Sitemeter since Sept 2011. My stats are stuck (location) since Sept 14/13 still records data but it is useless, now using Statcounter and waiting for SM to start up again, has been spotty since April 2013...

John Gonigam · 4 November 2013 - 18:45
United States · Comcast Cable

Even though it doesn't show on the "Service Status History", if you'll check the "last down" report above and Sitemeter's own hourly site reports, it would appear that Sitemeter is disappearing for anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour once or twice a week. I'm using StatCounter, too, now but I don't know if I trust it any beter.

SisterLaurel M O'Neal · 4 November 2013 - 10:39

Newest problem is no visitors to site with sitemeter while another counter logs 23 visitors. I am told sitemeter is up and running --- apparently it is just not doing anything WHILE it is running. ::sigh::

I have a paid account. Sitemeter stopped working for me -- except (apparently) for the count of visits -- on August 18. Many emails to support received no response. Apparently the company is dying.

Ingrid Schlueter · 11 August 2013 - 18:28

I have a paid account. Site Meter stopped recording stats 2 months ago. Despite emailing tech support 3 times, I have heard from nobody. As far as I'm concerned they are a fraud and should be warned about. I lost my money that I paid for a service. I wish I knew of a better stat tracker.

SisterLaurel M O'Neal · 8 August 2013 - 15:52

I always continue to get visitor statistics (an overall number of visitors) but with a different stat counter the number is much higher. Usually I can get a "report unavailable" page too, but not during the periodic outages this week.

Tom Dolezal · 6 August 2013 - 11:15

Ellen Meister · 5 August 2013 - 05:46

Doesn't matter if you send a hundred report to Sitemeter. No one reads them. No one is minding the store. They don't even monitor the site to see if it's working. FYI, Sitemeter owned by MySpace, so if you want to reach an actual person, file a report there. That's the only way to even let them know the site is down. It's quite unbelievable.

Owen Taylor · 19 June 2013 - 04:40
United States · AT&T U-verse

Paid account. Details have not updated since April 19. Totals for visits and views are almost identical, which doesn't jive with stats from other sources, plus bar graphs only show last 8 days. What a crying shame. SiteMeter is circling the drain. No response from tech support except maybe one vague, non-robotic reply. Moving to StatCounter.

Mary Bergfeld · 6 June 2013 - 07:43

Tillies Dream · 8 May 2013 - 11:41

Thanks @RachaelGazouly! I'm sure you're right. Switching to StatCounter. No point in beating a dead horse! Bye SiteMeter! :-(

Rachael Ghazouly · 6 May 2013 - 20:13

I'm pretty sure sitemeter is gone as they have been down for quite some time now. I've resulted to using a site called 'statcounter'. It's similar to sitemeter and is the way to go :)

Tillies Dream · 3 May 2013 - 12:48

My SiteMeter also stopped working and I can no longer log into their website. My site is on blogger and I am wondering if Google has something to do with this? I did receive this email from Sitemeter support: "We are aware of this issue and our tech teams are looking into the group of users that have been affected. Our team is in the process of fixing these issues and your account should return to normal and be accessible very soon."

Paul Baeppler · 2 May 2013 - 04:18

My sitemeter account is showing zero (0) visitors in the past week. I consistently have 30-50 visitors/day. I've generated two support "tickets" with their site, but have received no response or help...and I'm a premium/paid user.

John Gonigam · 1 May 2013 - 20:31

Now they're online but losing count of my visitors. I don't have zero visits in 38 minutes even in the middle of the night.

Drew Sarver · 30 April 2013 - 07:52

my counter is on S30 and has not worked since last week. I contacted them immediately and have not heard a thing back.

Richard Perlman · 29 April 2013 - 15:07

I'm in Bangkok, Thailand and when I access my blog,, Sitemeter shows me in Washington DC. I'm using a Thai ISP, True, to access my blog. I have for a week tried to contact Sitemeter support. They respond that they will contact me soon. I also have asked Sitemeter support if it's possible to see location data history for more than a month. They haven;t responded to that question either.

Keith Wills · 27 April 2013 - 08:57

They have a problem they are clearly not interested in resolving. I have contacted them six times now with a stalled S51 code and had no response, other than to be acknowledge with a 'ticket' number which is obviously a computer generated standard response. They were good and professional once, with speed replies and help; not anymore. I intend to leave Site meter and install a reliable product.

If this is their way to get us to upgrade to the premium option, then they sadly deluded. By exhibiting such utterly poor customer service they a driving prospective customers away.

Lori Eldridge · 20 April 2013 - 10:18

I have multiple clients hooked up to Sitemeter. All clients on s13 are stuck on Jan 10 as the last data available although they are sending out correct(?) weekly stats by email. All clients on s51 you can login but can't gain access to stats and weekly reports show 0 traffic even though same sites on s13 show traffic. All other accounts seem to be working ok - so far. There were no stats at all the last few days of spring break -- as predicted by others -- too many of their staff must have been on vacation. I spent the morning searching for another stat meter.

Tony Nichols · 17 April 2013 - 19:43

I just paid for this service and have not been able to login. Since they charged my credit card, I will be contacting MasterCard to dispute the charges.

Eulalia Benejam Cobb · 11 April 2013 - 05:15

My Sitemeter's been down for a week, and I cannot get any response from their support staff.

Carol Leigh · 9 April 2013 - 08:13

Since April 5, the only visitors to my site, according to SiteMeter, is Googlebot. One time per day. Something is seriously wrong. The service is free, so it's tough to complain, but still...

Vishal Panchal · 8 April 2013 - 23:39

Sitemeter not working from last 3 days. Now can login but it doesnt show any stats at all... Their customer care doesnt revert too

Robert Wilkinson · 6 April 2013 - 19:55

Sitemeter is back up for my site! It's 8 pm PDT 6 April.

Barry Farris · 6 April 2013 - 08:39

sitemeter has been down for two days and no body answers email do not give them credit info

Karen Baker Thumm · 6 April 2013 - 05:35

I love the stats I get from Sitemeter and have been a loyal customer for many years now. However, my visitor numbers have dropped practically out of sight this past year, and I often can't access them at all. I'm looking for a new stat service. This is ridiculous. What good are the stats if they're not accurate and you can't access them?

Di O'Clese · 6 April 2013 - 01:23

Read and weep...

Sarah David · 6 April 2013 - 00:10

the new sitemeter seems to be a squatter. Something bad is happening here. Probably Russian mafia or something like that. Maybe the genious guy who started it either died, or is having mental issues. It happens.

Tara Ann Barber · 5 April 2013 - 17:32

Somebody remind me why I paid for this service again? Every time it's a crucial time where I need to have the visits to my site recorded this company goes belly up on their servers and service :/ I won't be renewing my subscription but then again from the looks of the shambles they've been during the last year it won't be an issue!

John Cahill · 5 April 2013 - 09:55

It's now 9:53 a.m. PDT on 5March13. It's been down since 12:15 a.m. this morning. "The report is currently unavailable. Please wait a few minutes and try again." it says now and said at midnight. Still down.

Lori Eldridge · 5 April 2013 - 08:29

I can't login either. re the site meter domain being expired - I checked and it was registered by site meter Inc on 4-4-1998 and doesn't expire till 4-3-14 however it was last updated on 4-4-13 so they must have done something deliberately to the domain yesterday.

Charles Crane · 5 April 2013 - 05:47

I've given up on them and use StatCounter instead.

They've been giving me problems for the last 12 months. When I complained last year that my visits were grossly exaggerated, they fixed the problem but didn't adjust the rubbish it reported in the meantime.

Denise Haschka · 5 April 2013 - 03:32

Sitemeter has been down for me for several days. It states "The Site Meter database for your account is currently unavailable. Please wait a few minutes and try again."

Jonny Jacobsen · 5 April 2013 - 01:18

Haven't been able to connect for at least 12 hours, maybe more. I'm in Paris.

Keeping Stock · 4 April 2013 - 21:22

Sitemeter has been down since about 7am this morning (Friday 5/4; New Zealand time). It brings up a new page, with no navigation links.

Diane Gee · 4 April 2013 - 19:29

Its been down all day, and now goes to a new Sitemeter page with no links. My meter is missing as well, and I pay for premium. This is happening far too often.

Kelvin Lawrence · 4 April 2013 - 18:34

Been down for hours and also seeing the fact that someone else appears to own the domain name now. :-(

Robert Wilkinson · 4 April 2013 - 17:10

I'm a premium member and no matter which way I try to get to sitemeter I get a page that goes nowhere and does not allow me to contact sitemeter. This has gone on all day. I also saw their counter logo disappear from my front page a couple of months ago, have emailed them several times, but never get a response. It's as though they disappeared.

MeGo Tablespoon · 4 April 2013 - 16:28

Matthew Rose, yes I saw that, too. Seems that our people didn't renew their domain name on time. What will happen??? I am a premium customer! Oy. I sent an email to customer support. Here is the mention I saw:

Inge Schlueter · 4 April 2013 - 15:47

What's going on? I have a paid account and some bizarre page is now coming up.

Matthew Rose · 4 April 2013 - 12:09

seems as if sitemeter no longer owns its domain name. Anyone see this?

Lois Kelly · 11 March 2013 - 15:11

Sitemeter (premium) has been down for my site for two weeks. Have gotten NO response to my emails. This is outrageous.

Sandra Hinterlang · 7 March 2013 - 07:00

I didn't realize there was issue with site meter as I've had a free site meter for years. I recently upgraded to a paid account and was never given a password. I am unable to login to my account. They have my credit card on file for automatic payments every month. I've sent 2 requests to remove my card the account and for a password and no reply. I'm afraid I'm going to have to cancel my card. All my other online accounts I pay through Pay Pal. I should have known better when there wasn't an option to cancel your own card. But, site meter has been around for years so I thought it was OK. Apparently not! And yes, they took payment from my card. What a bunch of crooks!

Lori Eldridge · 19 February 2013 - 08:02

They finally got server #s13 fixed. It was down for just over a month. Still no replies from tech support however.

Rayna Gillman · 12 February 2013 - 09:06

I am about to find another counter - this is the pits - it has been down for months!

George Taplin · 25 December 2012 - 03:49

I haven't been able to reach sitemeter in weeks. Keeps returning as 1x1pixels within the title - favicon?

Elaine Killian Olsen · 28 November 2012 - 05:42

I also received an upgrade request, but the form box for my codename isn't working correctly. I sent a request. No word yet. I certainly don't want to proceed without further information.

Carrie Spacey · 27 November 2012 - 02:12

They are now asking us to re-upgrade, but the form they ask us to fill in does not allow us to enter the account codename. Support request ignored, AGAIN. Hopeless.

Janice Weaver Kearney · 20 November 2012 - 20:25

After many sporadic and extended outages over the last few months with no word from Sitemeter as to why, I rec'd an email from them today asking them to "upgrade" my billing info 'sooner rather than later'. WTF? I sure don't want to reup with them, I want a partial refund for all the down time. Already installed statcounter and am actually liking that a lot.

Frank Ferrell · 16 November 2012 - 00:24

Good News - Apparently for me. For about the last 48 hours, Sitemeter has been regularly accessible to me. Somebody must getting the word to them.

Eddie Mayfield · 13 November 2012 - 13:45

it is annoying.. at one time.. I thought their customer service was great, now, they just don't seem to care at all.. goes down, seemingly all the time, with no word at all from them

Inge Schlueter · 12 November 2012 - 19:05

Site meter is down now almost every other day. I am paying money for something and not getting it. I had just upgraded. How do you get a refund from thse clowns?

To not contact subscribers after repeated outages is disgusting adn unprofessional. We're getting ripped off. Not even sure how to stop my subscription! HiStats, here I come.

Michael Burton Sr. · 12 November 2012 - 16:28

In addition to my earlier post, I just remembered that my annual renewal information is in the Sitemeter data base. So changing to a new stat counter does not mean that we will not be charged at some point. Now I must wait for the system to come back online and delete all my information. Hope it is soon!

Owen Taylor · 12 November 2012 - 15:42

It has been coming and going for me lately, maybe before Sandy but certainly now. Hoping for the best.

Lon Strickler · 12 November 2012 - 14:27

Sitemeter needs to contact paid subscribers and let us know what the hell is going on!

Eric Turner · 12 November 2012 - 14:12

I switched to yesterday. So far, MUCH Better...and FREE! I've been a paid customer of Sitemeter for years, but cannot take the downtime anymore. what used to be a great service has gone haywire over the past few months. The code even started slowing down my websites load time by 30-70 seconds longer! Hate to leave, but had to!

Sallie Olson · 12 November 2012 - 13:10

I'm not able to access the website but I'm still receiving the daily stats email.

Frank Ferrell · 12 November 2012 - 09:37

I've noticed something -- I usually get billed for Sitemeter every August. But this year (2012), there was no bill. Has anyone had a Sitemeter bill within the last 12 months?

Tracey Hodge Anderson · 12 November 2012 - 08:14

I've had sitemeter foryears. Started having problems over a month ago when I tried to add another site. Sent countless emails to their support but never, ever got a reply. I've loved having it but I guess all good things must come to an end.

Scott Nickell · 12 November 2012 - 05:44

I was on sitemeter last night and it was fine, but this morning it is out again. I think it is time to look at other options, as I have to run my reports over the weekend and on Monday morning and this is unacceptable

Miryam Weisberg · 11 November 2012 - 11:10

From what I can tell, sitemeter's been down most of the last week and a half. What gives?

Lon Strickler · 9 November 2012 - 20:51

I pay for the extended service since I have over 200K pageviews per month. I may need to reconsider my service soon.

Tina Hayes · 9 November 2012 - 19:01

ARG, I've been using it since the late 90's and it USED to be great, lately there have been so many problems, it's down or you can't get your stats, this has been happening far too much over the past few months.

Maven · 9 November 2012 - 14:39

I have used sitemeter for years on all my websites and have never experienced the downtimes that have occurred in the past few weeks. I keep hoping they'll get it together - that each outage will be the last - but I've installed statcounter, just in case...

Shashikiran Mullur · 9 November 2012 - 13:12

There is not even a courtesy mail/announcement explaining the problem/status.

Dustin Gary · 9 November 2012 - 11:34

Sitemeter sucks! Just because it's free doesn't mean it needs to suck so bad. All of this downtime over the past few months is totally unacceptable. Try or for much more reliable alternatives. Depending on how much traffic you get, and the features you want, you might have to pay... but it's worth it!

Keith Tucker · 4 November 2012 - 11:27

I have a political cartoon site, just before the election Sitemeter goes down?!! For 24 hours now! No weekend repair people on staff? I may just have to look into a more reliable service.

Dov Bar-Leib · 4 November 2012 - 10:39

Does anyone at Sitemeter work on the weekends for a server emergency? Come on guys. You are going to lose customers over negligence like this. There is no excuse to be down for over 20 hours.

Robert Maier · 4 November 2012 - 08:41

Has been down for 5-6 hours. No explanation. Using Google Analytics instead, which like most Google software is half-baked and not trustworthy.

Carrie Spacey · 30 October 2012 - 07:03

Not just down, they haven't been sending invoices out for a couple of months and haven't answered my tech support calls about that, either.

Kathleen Johnson · 29 October 2012 - 07:19

Sitemeter is the best little blogger tool out on the net. Hate to see them having all these issues. Their tech support is also kind and patient - tough to find that in todays world.

Karen Henry · 29 October 2012 - 04:38

Thanks for the suggestion re -- I think I'm going to switch. I've used sitemeter for 4 years but this is ridiculous. If they're not reliable, why stay with them?
