Probably the server is overloaded, down or unreachable because of a network problem, outage or a website maintenance is in progress...

Can't Access Simcity - Troubleshooting Instructions

If the site is UP but you cant access the page, try one of the below solutions:

Browser Related Problems

Force a full refresh for the site. This can be achieved by pressing CTRL + F5 keys at the same time on your favourite browser (Firefox, Chrome, Explorer, etc.)

Clear the temporary cache and cookies on your browser to make sure that you have the most recent version of the web page. For instructions choose your browser :

Fix DNS Problems

A Domain Name System (DNS) allows a site IP address (192.168.x.x) to be identified with words (*.com) in order to be remembered more easily, like a phonebook for websites. This service is usually provided by your ISP.

Clear your local DNS cache to make sure that you grab the most recent cache that your ISP has. For Windows - (Start > Command Prompt > type "ipconfig /flushdns" and hit enter). For details choose your operating system :

If you can access a website at office or from a 3G network yet it's not working on your computer, it is a good idea to use an alternative DNS service other than your ISPs. OpenDNS or Google Public DNS are both excellent and free public DNS services.

Check our help page for step-by-step instructions on how to change your DNS.

The server seems to be down. Can't even get into the game when my wifi is up and running fine. Maybe the sim city server can't handle the volume.

Sim City has a twitter account where the announced 4 hours ago that the servers were down for maintenance because they are rolling out Update 6. At that time they "should be up in a couple of hours" - well it is 11 o'clock in Denmark right now, and I have to go to work tomorrow, so no fun for me tonight. Why the hell don't they at least share this information on the official site - why do I have to spend my time googling for an explanaition????

Thank you EA for making a system that does not allow off-line-play. You might be able to protect yourself from piracy, but what the hell good does that do you, when all your customers start building bad word of mouth.

I will never buy another EA game again if it has this kind of DRM-protection!

Selin Kahraman · 30 July 2013 - 14:02

once the launching is complete a "select a server" list comes up but the list is empty and when I click on ok or cancel nothing happens. anyone know what to do?

Misty Matta · 23 May 2013 - 11:52

This is total garbage THIS IS WHY they should have never put it on servers, let our computers handle our own saves, handle our own games and then give us the option to go online or NOT !!! IDIOTS.

Shani Worley · 13 April 2013 - 12:10

What a load of garbage. Unplayable, period. servers still down, unable to connect. Tries to update but gets stuck in a loop because the update server isn't up.Wow, I'm so disappointed, guess that's 60 bucks down the drain... Shame on every company that had anything to do with this steaming pile.

Matthijs Huizinga · 2 April 2013 - 14:49

The filter for free servers when joining a multiplayer game still isn't fixed. I wasn't able to join a game. When I create an open game where other PPL can join. I never saw another player come in. Really strange. This is not good and demotivates. I didn't play it for about a week just because of the bugs. I will try next week again.

Brandon O'Laughlin · 2 April 2013 - 12:08

cant connect to north america east 2

Damien Benton · 23 March 2013 - 07:20

This is pathetic, I bought this, played for short time, played for about an hour, tried again today and unable to connect with no reason, fix does nothing, this game is bloody awful and i've wasted my money on this tosh. Bring back simple install and play. Ironically a friend is a coder for this game and he was explaining how screwed up the back end is and how you have mutliple servers constantly falling over. Nice way to take peoples money!

Ryan Holloway · 14 March 2013 - 16:36

If I didn't like the local game store I bought this from I would have already charged back my credit card. Game is fine when its up even if the cities are a little small.. but meh I just want to play by myself and unwind.

Matthijs Huizinga · 10 March 2013 - 17:27

I played it for about 12 hours now and I have to say that it is a great game. Server issues are getting less frequent. Today and yesterday I played for about 6 hours non-stop without problems. Game is getting more addictive already :-). Location Western-Europe.

Nick Bencker · 10 March 2013 - 16:29

This is bs EA... Can't even play the game.

Arthur Mnev · 10 March 2013 - 12:40

another day of this insanity and I'll simply cancel the card charges. EA can say all they want about "no refunds" state law supersedes them and in the majority of states mandatory refunds within 30 days are part of the consumer protection laws... for those curious

Amirali Prince Maredia · 8 March 2013 - 23:43

Dear LUCY BRADSHAW can we please just take a vote among the EA gamers on who would want to get rid of the online only play because i would or even just a simple patch to let us play offline i believe it would be the easiest and best thing for everyone because i know there has to be more that 90 percent people who would vote YESS. but thank you for your concern and Cmon' plzz hurry i would really like to play

Kevin Chong · 8 March 2013 - 17:28

F**k this game. I want a refund. Total waste of money. It lags all the time and it is down majority of the time I want to play. And plus the chat doesn't even work because it lags indefinitely.

Diogo Tozetto · 8 March 2013 - 15:24

The biggest FAIL since Diablo III. Amazing how this people can't think to learn with others' mistakes

Matthijs Huizinga · 8 March 2013 - 12:10

Not working, servers overloaded. City that I was building this afternoon before the school went out. After 15:00 it went crazy and city was not saved. Not been able to reconnect since then.

Eric Berson · 8 March 2013 - 10:00

I am unable to connect when i do connect it doesn't save anything i have done the tutorial six times now

Bob Den Ouden · 8 March 2013 - 09:43

I know y're in a unmovable position, but please put the presure on EA/ORIGIN to get this fixed... For the time being, please create an offline-modus patch with option for P2P/LAN... This s*cks hard + builded cities are lost -_-

Dirk Machiels · 8 March 2013 - 07:20

Just bought the game, had connection for a few minutes. Then played for about an hour hoping connection would restore. After closing and re-opening Simcity, nothing was saved, and the game cannot be played (no server connection).
I hope next time I can reconnect and play the game whenever I want, and without losing progress of city builds. Restarting re-building a city from scratch is not the reason why I bought this game ! Wondering if Origin is just taking our money without having corresponding cloud capacity. Assuming these issues for everyone will be solved fast.

Chris Calzaretta · 7 March 2013 - 16:25

This sucks.. Cant even play the game after spending 70 bucks on it.. HOW LAME!!! get your act together EA

Skratch Bonkers · 7 March 2013 - 15:41

Hey EA, did you not take the time to stress test your shitty servers? When ppl spend their hard earned money they expect a useable product at least. This is a steaming pile of shit, not worth my time. Give us our money back to shit birds!

Ryan Gustavel · 7 March 2013 - 14:20

I can get on the game but when i try to play the tutorial i get a message saying i cant to exit and try again. I also tried switching servers and tried playing the actual game not the tutorial and got no such luck in playing. I want to know if the server is down and how long til you fix the problem

Kimberly Sutterlin · 7 March 2013 - 13:42

cant believe the game came out Monday, and there is still a long que to get into the game. thats just sad

Kasper Lonnqvist · 7 March 2013 - 12:22

It's a shame that they sell a nice game that doesn't work. If EA goes for the Always Online approach, they should ensure that their servers can handle it! I can't believe I paid for a game that is glitchy at best. Shame on them. My suggestion would be for EA to fix the server problems as soon as possible (before the release would've been nice), and maybe later provide everyone affected with one of their ridiculous expansion packs for free.

Milane Yancey · 7 March 2013 - 12:15

This takes all the fun out of online gaming. What a big disappointment !!!

Kenneth Reynard · 7 March 2013 - 11:05

Im one of the lucky ones who was able to get on last night. It still took a VERY long time to get on though... about 5 hours of near continuous trying. Like Kimberly below, i have been trying to log on since a bit after 7 am with no luck. Ive switched servers countless times and tried all of them unsuccessfully!

Kimberly Sutterlin · 7 March 2013 - 10:42

been trying to log in since 6am pst this morning. north america west 1 server. anyone else having that problem on that server?

Kenneth Moen · 7 March 2013 - 08:57

Cant wait until one of two things happend.

1: Someone make the game work in offline mode.
2: Someone make a private server.

Illegal, pft.. I gave EA my money, so now they can stick them up where the sun dont shine, and I'll go to a private server and play happily ever after.

Daniel Winther-John · 7 March 2013 - 08:40

At last i got in to a server, then the tutorial started and it came op with try to connnect to another server OMFG whats whong with this game a feel stupid for wasting money on this.

Jopie van Zetten · 7 March 2013 - 08:04

Pfff In the middle of a game then i got kicked out... and now i can't select a server... How long is this gonna be a problem??

Daniel Winther-John · 7 March 2013 - 07:31

Would be nice to be able to get it going, i have still not got past the update part even know it says 100% CRAP!!

Kimberly Sutterlin · 7 March 2013 - 07:21

I love the game. People cry because its an on, ine game, but this is where technology is heading. if you dont like it go buy the old game for 12 bucks and enjoy. I like playing with other people. your city borders could be larger tho, my only complaint

Jens Moberg Andersen · 7 March 2013 - 07:09

stuck at update screen before that it said that servers were down. (Denmark)

Alexandre Carnevale · 7 March 2013 - 05:54

i will never buy again from eletroic arts !!!

Daniel Winther-John · 7 March 2013 - 05:23

Same problem here you our not they only one "searching for updates" ? denmark...

Patrick Skifter Rønning · 7 March 2013 - 02:29

am i the only with "searching for updates" ? denmark... is there any way i can see server status?

Jeroen Rutgers · 7 March 2013 - 02:17

so this is what "limited edition" means.

Art Zenator · 6 March 2013 - 20:27

Trust me EA you don't want to here what I have to say.

Andy Law · 6 March 2013 - 20:11

19 minute queue and after that... crashed.

Kevin Johansen · 6 March 2013 - 20:02

After 3 hours of constant trying, I managed to play for 1 hour... 1 fucking hour. Visiting my neighbours town crashed the game and now im stuck at updates -.-

Coby Prevost · 6 March 2013 - 19:45

its still down man i hate this. this will be the last game i buy that has online all the time it a SP game.

Renzo Martinez-Pawelczyk · 6 March 2013 - 19:23

It definitely needs a 'play offline' mode. i just wanna build my city in peace

Arthur Johnson · 6 March 2013 - 18:32

I was JUST about to download this game... but something told me to read some reviews first since it just came out... man, Im GLAD I did! This is ridiculous! Not only are they pissing off their hardcore fanbase, but the casual fan like me has now been scared away from even buying the game because of these server issues. Im an IT analyst who routinely works with testers and developers of software apps, and knows how much is involved in a release. Wasnt there any performance or load testing? How could they NOT have been ready? I would bet anything that the project team made it known that they would NOT be ready on release night and tried like hell to push it back... but I'm sure marketing and leadership decided to do it anyway. Ask me how I know! Been there done that! The game looks incredible... but listen to your team, and go live when ALL phases of execution are ready!

Wes Hall · 6 March 2013 - 18:06

Isnt it funny, how their excuse, is "you gamers will be REALY amazed with the always online service". They talk about how "some people will naturally be upset"... thats funny... you mean ALL the people that played Sim City 1, 2, 3, 4, and all other versions that put every dollar your crappy company has made, into YOUR pockets? Oh...ya, so now you cant even log in, and since there is now single player mode/offline mode... you cannot play the game, AT ALL. Remember Mass Effect 3, couldnt even LOG ON? Gee... anyone noticing a PATTERN here? (EA Games, worst company in America)

Johan van Gastel · 6 March 2013 - 18:00

And 19 min queue awesome! And it going again offline. Hanging in the loading screen... perfect... This game shows how drm works...

Ghislain Lussier · 6 March 2013 - 17:42

It never works. Seems to be good but can't play because their fu****g servers always down!

Nate Leinard · 6 March 2013 - 17:28

Checking for updates... awesome!

Andy Law · 6 March 2013 - 17:14

are the servers down? I got to the main screen and then got a Simcity servers are down. Attempting to reconnect.

Chris Sim · 6 March 2013 - 16:54

I had one city but was striked by a explosion in my nuclear plant. the city simple died. Try to start a new one in the same area, but the game crashes every f** time!

Stephen Womack · 6 March 2013 - 16:54

was able to play after 2hours down then it just crashed again

Johan van Gastel · 6 March 2013 - 16:38

I feel stupid that i buy this game...

Andy Law · 6 March 2013 - 16:35

what the hell? I'm stuck at checking for updates...

Ilias Joul · 6 March 2013 - 16:16

It really should have an 'Play Offline' button...

Clifford Peaslee · 6 March 2013 - 16:06

Got it working after staring at a 'updating' dialog.

1. Go to origin/ simcity start page.
2. Right click/ uninstall, but abort/cancel soon after.
3. Right click/ repair install
3. Working again.

Dave Steele · 6 March 2013 - 16:03

This is the MOST ridiculous issue to have. You launch a new game.. be over prepared. Scale back LATER not at launch. I cant even get to the point where I can SEE a server. Total fail for EA on this. They got my 80 bucks and I get shit on. Perfect.

Ryan Anthony Alfredo · 6 March 2013 - 15:30

Stuck looking for servers

Kolyan Kolyanich · 6 March 2013 - 15:28

This game disconnects you every 30 mins plus launcher check updating takes forever, PLUS servers are overcrowded and many other issues with this game... :(

Dan Stolldorf · 6 March 2013 - 15:22

Sam this is not the entirety of the PC gaming market. Look up Natural Selection 2, it is a brilliant RTS/FPS hybrid released by indie developer Unknown Worlds Entertainment. They also just released a giant free content patch. Keep an eye on indie devs, they are the ones making awesome games (always research before you purchase).

Sam Dudek · 6 March 2013 - 15:10

I can't even get to the server list now. The loading screen is eternally looking for updates. Why do I have to log on to play a single-person game? Thanks Maxis! This is the final nail in the PC gaming coffin.

Chris Sim · 6 March 2013 - 15:02

Played ok till 03/06. But now, havin problem with every single server... I reinstalled the old SimCity 2000 and guess what? playing flawless without issues... while the new SimCity tries to connect...

Jack Mamais · 6 March 2013 - 14:57

Wow, paid 60 bucks and cannot play a game, this is bad.

Dan Stolldorf · 6 March 2013 - 13:46

The servers appear online, however they are being "patched", making them unusable...

Stephen Myers · 6 March 2013 - 12:50

The most frustrating part is that they KNEW this sort of thing would happen. Why beta-test? Additionally, as everyone else has said, why do I HAVE to be online? Frustrating...

Alexandra Alcantara · 6 March 2013 - 12:46

Why can't i just play by myself? I don't need to go online... why do I need a server to play? If i want to play with friends online i'll play on my xbox!

Ghislain Lussier · 6 March 2013 - 11:27

For the first time, they posted that they are down and under maintenance

Shen Rongzhou · 6 March 2013 - 09:12

Still in the launch scene, waiting for updates... It was fine last night...

Jared Fizer · 6 March 2013 - 03:17

bad bad is all i can say, still cant load my city or start a new one

Ryan Fisher · 5 March 2013 - 20:03

Able to start setting up my area but now can't even claim a damm city!! complete BS!
Looks like its back to Civilization 5!! atleast that game works each time i load it up oh and i can even play it offline what a concept!!

Blaine Boulet · 5 March 2013 - 19:43

Stuck checking of updates in the launcher. This is what happens with always online... every buys in... then we all get raped the first week. WHAT WERE THE BETAS FOR!!

Ryan Fisher · 5 March 2013 - 19:35

This is absolute BS. No reason this game should demand a ALWAYS online connection to just play by yourself... I could care less about online unless i WANT to play with friends. I should be able to choose between the 2. I would rather play Sim City 4!

Robert Wallace · 5 March 2013 - 19:30

F#!k this game, I'm going to request my money back

Martin Grégoire · 5 March 2013 - 17:35

I paid 60+ dollars for this?? 20 minutes to log back in, I was right to be worried. C'mon MAXIS.

Jason Shepherd · 5 March 2013 - 17:31

i just got back in... all i did was restart origin

William Cooley · 5 March 2013 - 17:28

Stuck on checking for updates... server must be down or login server

Scoop OKelley · 5 March 2013 - 17:26

Was playing despite the message in the corner saying servers are down... then bam. Out and can't play at all. WTF?

Brian Ashton · 5 March 2013 - 17:21

EA continues to set the sub-standard in modern gaming. When it comes to sucking hard, no one can even compare to EA.
"EA Games, Challenged at Everything"

Aadam Zocolo · 5 March 2013 - 17:19

"Hold on, I'm updating...."
Error The SimCity servers are offline.
"Nevermind guys, i just entirely quit a perfectly good game."

Pembrooke Marshall-Holmes · 5 March 2013 - 17:11

I'm getting that constant update thing too. It says it's not down but the login server must be.

Meg Bell · 5 March 2013 - 17:08

I was in the middle of playing and then it froze. Fantastic. Now I'm sitting here waiting while it "checks for updates." I'm not sure why I bought it. I should've listened to everyone warning me about the online business.

Nathan Yokoyama · 5 March 2013 - 14:26

Still seems to be down.

David Anthony Dutton · 5 March 2013 - 12:37

The new game is unplayable.. it sits there forever trying to check for an update.. this is lame... to play it solo, it should NEVER need to go online for anything nor require a patch or a server
