We have tried pinging Safe-mail website using our server and the website returned the above results. If safe-mail.net is down for us too there is nothing you can do except waiting. Probably the server is overloaded, down or unreachable because of a network problem, outage or a website maintenance is in progress...

Can't Access Safe-mail - Troubleshooting Instructions

If the site is UP but you cant access the page, try one of the below solutions:

Browser Related Problems

Force a full refresh for the site. This can be achieved by pressing CTRL + F5 keys at the same time on your favourite browser (Firefox, Chrome, Explorer, etc.)

Clear the temporary cache and cookies on your browser to make sure that you have the most recent version of the web page. For instructions choose your browser :

Fix DNS Problems

A Domain Name System (DNS) allows a site IP address (192.168.x.x) to be identified with words (*.com) in order to be remembered more easily, like a phonebook for websites. This service is usually provided by your ISP.

Clear your local DNS cache to make sure that you grab the most recent cache that your ISP has. For Windows - (Start > Command Prompt > type "ipconfig /flushdns" and hit enter). For details choose your operating system :

If you can access a website at office or from a 3G network yet it's not working on your computer, it is a good idea to use an alternative DNS service other than your ISPs. OpenDNS or Google Public DNS are both excellent and free public DNS services.

Check our help page for step-by-step instructions on how to change your DNS.

The web server is up which is what this site is using to report if it is up or down. The mail server that actually let's you login and get your mail is still down and has been for weeks. Seems ridiculous that it takes this long to restore data from a backup and cleanup users.

We are sorry! Safe-mail is not ready yet.
Safe-mail.net is down for critical maintainance.

The Safe-mail.net system suffered a major storage hardware crash.
Much of the Safe-mail.net system is now renewed. Most of the users' data was not affected by the crash, as we already moved it to a new system during the last few months.
Once the system is functioning again, most of the hardware (and operating system) will be new.
We salvaged additional data from the crashed storage.
About 8% of users' data need to be recovered from the Backup system. Accounts that will be restored from the Backup system may loose the last few hours of activity before the crash.
The Safe-mail.net system suffered a major storage hardware crash.
About 80% of user's data is not affected by the crash, as we already moved it to a new system during the last few months.
The rest is either to be salvaged from the crashed storage, or will be restored from the Backup system.
At this time we will permanently remove about 250,000 user accounts that were involved in activity which violates the Safe-mail.net Agreement and policy.
Note: Only those who violates our policy will be deleted. Most accounts are not affected.

Free web based registration to Safe-mail.net will not be available.
Free accounts will be opened by sending a request to Safe-mail.net.
In the near future, separate subsystems will be used for Free and Premium accounts.
This will enable better service and even enable shutdown of the Free subsystem without affecting the Premium users.
Further information will be published.

Google Forbes article about safe-mail. All you need to know is there. They were using a server involved with Tor or its dark web ilk. The server has been taken down. Just the rest of us that are just basic folk who like the email facility get bollocksed along with it. Marvellous. I'm looking for another provider as of now.

Is their any update today? I have tried the phone number safe mail said was current but does not work and no update has been issued since the poor update yesterday saying "more information will be provided"?
Can you tell us what's causing this and so many people to be loosing businesses that's they have spent years building! We need more information and a real time eta or should we prepare for safe mail not to return and the fact we have lost our whole business and financial income???

Tyler Persellin · 28 October 2015 - 15:49
· · Chrome 46.0 on Windows

It's safe to say that it's not coming back up if theyve been down for 5 days now. That's enough time to replace any faulty equipment and/or reset everything back to a previous date. They might put it back up some time in the future as a totally new mail service but everything on there is gone. It's time to move on to other mail services people. You guys have to understand all these types of things are set up with redundancy safeties to keep things running seamlessly forever. If they go down for long its because the redundancies went down too or they just shut down business.

Faith Hunter · 27 October 2015 - 18:34

I have had a safe-mail account since January 1998. it was fine for the first 10 years and then, in an ever increasing fashion there were issues with hackers, upgrades and the usual excuse 'maintenance'. There are hundreds of people who have my email address and communicating with all of them as to what my new email service will be is difficult to imagine - what a level of effort! But this time I am really done with this company. They do not have the support services or contingency plans in place to handle incidences that other companies would just breeze through. I have lost confidence in their ability to provide me with reliable service - one that I must use every day in order to manage many different transactions. Their lack of communication is unacceptable, as are their business practices.
2:34pm EST 10/27/15 - the site is stil down after 2 days.

JMark Seaton · 27 October 2015 - 17:18
· · Chrome 46.0 on Windows

I have been a paying customer of Safe-Mail for nearly 10 years with multiple paid accounts. I have been unable to log in since Sat - it is now Tues - this is ridiculous!!! The fact that I have never been able to find a phone # to actually speak to them is now making it obvious to me that I made a mistake. That they are not updating their client base on what is going on, specially after this length of time being down is problematic. Are they actually fixing an issue or are they gone?

Helen Taylor · 27 October 2015 - 14:12
· · Safari 9.0 on iPhone

Another "essential maintenance" message up this morning (27th Oct) in orange also saying 'back in two days'. Can't even get that now. I sincerely hope there's a clarifying message of explanation when it does open. You don't do maintenance without informing people first.

Last used Friday, today Monday. Sunday I found a message on there one time only : safe-mail is down for essential maintenance. No it's not. You inform users that you're going to do it, you don't just black it out. Last time (back in July) they had a DoS attack and I suspect it's another hack attack. Of course they wouldn't do it deliberately, but their encryption needs sorting before they begin losing clients.
