Can't Access Windows Live Hotmail - Troubleshooting Instructions

If the site is UP but you cant access the page, try one of the below solutions:

Browser Related Problems

Force a full refresh for the site. This can be achieved by pressing CTRL + F5 keys at the same time on your favourite browser (Firefox, Chrome, Explorer, etc.)

Try alternative urls such as hotmail.com, login.live.com, mail.live.com

Clear the temporary cache and cookies on your browser to make sure that you have the most recent version of the web page. For instructions choose your browser :

Fix DNS Problems

A Domain Name System (DNS) allows a site IP address (192.168.x.x) to be identified with words (*.com) in order to be remembered more easily, like a phonebook for websites. This service is usually provided by your ISP.

Clear your local DNS cache to make sure that you grab the most recent cache that your ISP has. For Windows - (Start > Command Prompt > type "ipconfig /flushdns" and hit enter). For details choose your operating system :

If you can access a website at office or from a 3G network yet it's not working on your computer, it is a good idea to use an alternative DNS service other than your ISPs. OpenDNS or Google Public DNS are both excellent and free public DNS services.

Check our help page for step-by-step instructions on how to change your DNS.

My name is Karen Phelps i From New York,I read some testimonies about a love spell caster on how he has helped lots of people in bringing back their ex lovers within 48 hours, Sincerely I was just thinking if that was real and if this man could really help bring back my lover whom I love so much. I decided to contact him because I love my partner very much and we have been apart for a couple of months I really missed him so much, I have tried all other means to get him back but couldn’t. I contacted: sangomaspellcaster@gmail.com and he told me that my partner will come back to me in the next 12 hours,Dr Sangoma released him up to know how much i loved and wanted him back. And opened his eyes to picture how much we have share together.with the help of Dr Sangoma we are happily back again. As I`m writing this testimony right now I`m the most happiest woman on earth and me and my partner are living a happy life and our love is now stronger than how it were even before our break up.All thanks goes to Dr Sangoma for the excessive work that he has done for me by helping me to get back with my partner. I would like to drop Dr Sangoma mail address and hope you see this testimony and contact him if you have a lover that you really want back so badly, His website http://goo.gl/NedwSK

Like Post Office Protocol 3 (POP3), the IMAP4 protocol uses port 25 Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) to send messages, but an IMAP4 server uses port 143 to listen for messages.

Unlike POP3, IMAP4 allows you to store your messages by default on the server, instead of downloading them locally.

Use one of the following methods to configure Outlook as an IMAP4 client.
Method 1: Microsoft Office Outlook 2010

Start Outlook.
On the File menu, click Info and click Account Settings.
Select Account Settings from the list.
On the E-mail tab, click New and Select Email Account, and then click Next
Click to select the Manually configure server settings or additional server types check box, and then click Next.
Click Internet E-Mail, and then click Next.
In the Server Information section, select IMAP for Account Type.
In the Your Name box, enter your name exactly as you want it to appear to recipients.
In the E-mail Address box, type your e-mail address.
In the User Name box, type your account name.
In the Password box, type your password.
In the Incoming mail server box, type the name of your IMAP4 server.
In the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) box, type the name of your SMTP server.

Note IMAP4 is a retrieval protocol. You must have SMTP to send your messages.
Click Next after you have completed entering this configuration information, and then click Finish.

Method 2:
Click Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP, and then click Next.

In the E-mail Address box, type your e-mail address.
In the User Name box, type your account name.
In the Password box, type your password.
In the Incoming mail server box, type the name of your IMAP4 server.
In the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) box, type the name of your SMTP server'\

OK, finally figured out how to get to Hotmail. If you are using Windows 10, you can access Hotmail via Edge. It isn't working via Internet Explorer (and other browsers from what I've seen).

Hotmail has been down since 7/27/16 for me. It doesn't work on my laptop although I can get to it from my iPhone.... but I can't do all my business on my cell phone. It tries to open my mailbox 7 times and then I get this message:

Method 2: Microsoft Office Outlook 2007

Start Outlook.
On the Tools menu, click Account Settings.
Click New.
Click Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP, and then click Next.
In the Auto Account Setup dialog box, click to select the Manually configure server settings or additional server types check box, and then click Next.

Method 3: Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 and earlier versions of Outlook

Start Outlook.
On the Tools menu, click E-mail Accounts.
Under E-mail Accounts, click Add a new e-mail account, and then click Next.
Click IMAP as the type of account that you are creating, and then click Next.
In the Your Name box, enter your name exactly as you would like it to appear to recipients.
In the E-mail Address box, type your e-mail address.
In the User Name box, type your account name.
In the Password box, type your password.
In the Incoming mail server (IMAP) box, type the name of your IMAP4 server.
In the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) box, type the name of your SMTP server.NOTE: IMAP4 is a retrieval protocol. You need SMTP to send your messages.

Click Next after you have completed entering this configuration information, and then click Finish.

While add-ins can enhance your experience, they can occasionally interfere or conflict with Outlook. Try starting Outlook without add-ins to see if the problem goes away, Here’s how:

Do one of the following:

If you are running Windows 7, click Start.
If you are running Windows 8, click Run from the Apps menu.

Type Outlook /safe, in the Search programs and files (Windows 7) or Run window (Windows 8) and then click OK.

Close and re-open Outlook.

If the issue is resolved, open the File menu, click Options, then click Add-ins.

Select COM Add-ins and click Go.

Clear all the check boxes in the list to disable the Add-ins and click OK.

Restart Outlook.

If the issue does not occur, go back to the COMM Add-ins screen and enable them one at a time until the error occurs. (Be sure to close and restart Outlook after each Add-in is enabled.)

I can't login. It took seven(!!) minutes just to load the login screen when I clicked on the Manage Account button from inside Office365. Nice to see what a $10+ a month subscription buys you. Thanks, Microsoft, for never failing to add about two hours to every single work week.
