Can't Access HBO GO - Troubleshooting Instructions

If the site is UP but you cant access the page, try one of the below solutions:

Browser Related Problems

Force a full refresh for the site. This can be achieved by pressing CTRL + F5 keys at the same time on your favourite browser (Firefox, Chrome, Explorer, etc.)

Clear the temporary cache and cookies on your browser to make sure that you have the most recent version of the web page. For instructions choose your browser :

Fix DNS Problems

A Domain Name System (DNS) allows a site IP address (192.168.x.x) to be identified with words (*.com) in order to be remembered more easily, like a phonebook for websites. This service is usually provided by your ISP.

Clear your local DNS cache to make sure that you grab the most recent cache that your ISP has. For Windows - (Start > Command Prompt > type "ipconfig /flushdns" and hit enter). For details choose your operating system :

If you can access a website at office or from a 3G network yet it's not working on your computer, it is a good idea to use an alternative DNS service other than your ISPs. OpenDNS or Google Public DNS are both excellent and free public DNS services.

Check our help page for step-by-step instructions on how to change your DNS.

Deaunte Bowden · 6 April 2014 - 19:28

Down in atlanta oo won even let me access the "acivate" device site...

Danny Wright · 6 April 2014 - 19:22 is down for me from Ft. Lauderdale since 9:00 PM EDT. That sucks! I want to watch Game of Thrones premiere. They need to invest some of the large amounts of money they make on subscriptions on preparing for these events.

Suzy Jill Rozman · 6 April 2014 - 19:19

This is the error I get: ERROR

The requested URL could not be retrieved. While trying to retrieve the requested URL the following error was encountered:

Not only can't I access it, it says I have to reactivate my device and I can't access that site either...

Aaron LaVigne · 6 April 2014 - 19:16

This BLOWS. Terrible planning, HBO Wizards. How were you not expecting traffic? Incompetent.

Justin Packwood · 6 April 2014 - 19:15

And HBO wonders why I would rather torrent their shit. If I meet the cast of any of the shows I get, I'll give them some cash, but f#!k giving HBO any of my money. They clearly don't know what to do with it.

Bryan Sandstrom · 6 April 2014 - 19:12

How many of you don't pay for a subscription and are still complaining?

It worked up until 9, then it stopped working and I get a System error

Michael Davis · 6 April 2014 - 19:08

I hope someone gets fired over this!... Simple math... see how many hbo go devices are activated and plan on that number to watch big premieres and finales... dang that was complicated. Get with the streaming program! Don't offer a service you can't handle...

Terri Selig · 6 April 2014 - 19:06

Down in Chicago... was up all afternoon, in fact watching a mini series until time for GoT... of course. The series I want to watch.. can't even load the site now :(

Adam Heard · 6 April 2014 - 19:05

I don't understand how it could be down for such a long time. This channel banks the dough... how do they not have a streaming app that functions correctly.

Mac Hollister · 6 April 2014 - 19:04

Jeez people, calm down... you can just watch it in like an hour from now, it's not a big deal.

Sarah Abbott · 6 April 2014 - 19:01

I can get on the website but the "Available Until" section on the Episodes board says N/A. It won't allow me to play it.

Alex Lyon · 6 April 2014 - 19:00

Robin Forbes · 6 April 2014 - 18:24

Seriously the worst possible time to not work.

Brandon Murata · 6 April 2014 - 18:24

HBO GO is down due to massive traffic from Game of Thrones Season 4's first episode! I thought they would have planned ahead from what happened with True Detective's finale crash.. Suck a huge one and learn to use your website properly, HBO! Pfft..

Amber Hrbek · 6 April 2014 - 18:23

Aurora Berget · 6 April 2014 - 18:17

Can't access HBO go on my computer or ipad. On the computer I get an endless loading screen; and on my mobile device I get a "cannot sign in without internet connection, " message, although my connection is stable.

Daniel Fleischer · 6 April 2014 - 18:17

Down right now, page just shows HBOGO logo with a spinning icon to show it continues to attempt to load the rest of the page. Probably everyone and their cat (like me) is currently attempting to catch up with Game of Thrones before the premiere tonight.

Ben Owen · 6 April 2014 - 18:17

new episode of game of thrones? nope, HBOgo is down.

Angelo Niforatos · 6 April 2014 - 18:16

game of thrones is on!!!! I'm dying please fix thisssss

Alaina Asbury · 6 April 2014 - 18:13

Trying to view on my Xbox 360 and it keeps giving me a timeout error. I tried the website and it just continually attempts to load without getting anywhere. Is Game of Thrones streaming live at 9 or 9:30pm EST?

Derick Bean · 6 April 2014 - 18:13

its down when i go to get on hbo go on my laptop it just sits at the loading screen and when i tried on my xbox 360 it keeps saying request timeout and that the server encountered a problem

Leticia Cole · 6 April 2014 - 18:12

Why is it down now!!!???

Zachary Richard · 6 April 2014 - 18:09

its down... again

Ben Benson · 5 April 2014 - 23:39

This is what I have noticed. Some of my devices were authenticated a few days ago. When I try to login with a device that isn't authenticated then the login fails with an ATT banner page stating, "We're sorry, we cannot process your request at this time...."

What I find interesting is the same thing occurs on HBO GO, ShowTime Anytime, and AMCTV. A few days ago I had success on several of my devices. Again it was interesting that when I could login to HBO GO I could also login to ShowTime Anytime and AMCTV.

ATT tech support does take my calls and once escalated my call to tier 2 support. But like the other agents she disconnected my chat session or my call when I persisted. Then a few hours later my login attempts were successful to all three services.

I hope this explanation makes sense to someone that knows more than I do so you can tell me why I can login to all or none.

Anne Lehr Pillion · 21 March 2014 - 06:20

Pay a hefty monthly fee for HBO and cable in general. Trying to use my Chrome Cast to watch HBOGO (previously NO issues). Now I am getting an error message that says, "Sorry, some videos may not be available at this time. We are working on this issue and hope to have it resolved shortly. :-11800. I have been getting this message for over a week now.

Elizabeth Nishea · 17 March 2014 - 21:22

Trying to catch up on shows, but stuck on "optimizing video quality" loader page.

Se├ín M. O'Dochartaigh · 14 March 2014 - 12:54

Website won't load. AppleTV app times out. HBOGo is pretty much useless.

Ralph Pope · 13 March 2014 - 23:04

first wait 24 hours then wait 72 hours, it says sussess ready to stream try to watch say put in access code back and forth for days hasn't worked yet. good job hbo

Robert Zysk · 12 March 2014 - 17:35

HBO Go on the ROKU 3 hasn't been working correctly the last two days. The video quality is noticeably worse, video is constantly buffering and/or fails to load. The PS3 app has been working.

Francisco Michelena · 10 March 2014 - 09:14

I've been clicking refresh for 14 hours straight now. My eyes are growing heavy, but I am determined.

Cody Gibson · 9 March 2014 - 22:36

Its sad I was able to get torrent it illegally faster than rather wait for them to make it available legitimately...

Jim Courville · 9 March 2014 - 21:42

Thank god for good old fashioned tv! I just said to hell with devices and went to the old school hbo on television worked like a charm... the bad thing? It took me an hour before i even thought of watching it on Television, but I DID cathch it just in time to watch True Detective finale

MaryJo Agresta DuPrey · 9 March 2014 - 21:38

If they don't fix this before Go T, I'm going to spontaneously combust. COME ON HBO > you're the most expensive service and this is what it looks like?!? Somebody hire some techies over there and fix it!!!

Jesse Sedwick · 9 March 2014 - 21:28

It's down, says Accessing HBO GO but never accesses when trying to play something.

Brandon TheReverend Walker · 9 March 2014 - 21:13

Hey people, just got True Detective to start up in Texas. on Xbox 360. Had to hit retry so many times I couldn't possibly count it.

Kayla Effinger · 9 March 2014 - 20:51

Annoyed beyond belief. I waned to watch the Girls season finale, but I keep getting a "Fatal error". HBOGo sucks.

John Rexhausen · 9 March 2014 - 20:47

I was about to blame Comcast for this, but it does make sense that the True Detective finale is the cause of this. Guess I'll just go kill zombies with plants...

Eileen Duffy · 9 March 2014 - 20:33

no access on Roku HBO go, or on lap top. i just wanted to watch one episode of GoT and go the bed. netflix is working.

Jocelyn Hageman · 9 March 2014 - 20:32

Since the HBO GO sucks so bad, HBO should at the least make these seasons available on cable... Do they? Hell no they dont!!! It has an icon for each season on Game of Thrones, but nothing to watch except a preview for the next season. It's like a f*!#ing tease... Frustrating

Lauren Rae Johnson · 9 March 2014 - 20:29

I usually dont get this upset over 1st world problems, but COME ON! They have to know this would happen when they release so many shows at the exact same time on the same day... of course the network will be overloaded! This happened with GOT too...

Maxwell John · 9 March 2014 - 20:29

down in NY. this is pure bullshit. HBO, get a f#!king clue and invest in some more servers. if this shit happens during GOT this season, I'll buy 1000 subscriptions and give the passwords out to everyone.

Jon Fecteau · 9 March 2014 - 20:23

Currently over two hours past showtime, and the site is still down. No one should be surprised, this was an almost weekly occurrence during the last season of Game of Thrones. HBO GO is one of the most poorly maintained websites I've ever seen. Don't bank on watching ANYTHING until at least tomorrow.

For a company with so much money, having shitty servers and complete underestimating demand is unacceptable. Glad I was at my friends house and not paying for this shit.

JRich Geen · 9 March 2014 - 20:15

Not working on AppleTV or iOS devices but seems to be working on the web. I'm in Minneapolis MN for context.

Lori Ann Deus · 9 March 2014 - 20:13

Servie Temporarily Unavailable. Before that it said Proxy Server Error. HBO Go not working.

Daniel Weible · 9 March 2014 - 20:08

Down for me as well. Northern Indiana, Comcast, bullshit. Either HBO is bad at anticipating user demand and/or preparing for it, or Net Neutrality is finally starting to f#!k us all in the ass.

Jocelyn Hageman · 9 March 2014 - 20:03

Mine is not working on my damn roku and I am beyond pissed!!! I have refreshed numerous times and its not coming up on my computer either...

Tiffany Kiefer · 9 March 2014 - 19:58

Using comcast in California and HBO Go is only buffering. Didn't they see this coming?!?! Looking forward to Game of Thrones in April until I can't actually watch it on my iMac or phone. So very disappointed.

Erick Dingess · 9 March 2014 - 19:56

No doubt. I try to watch the Walking Dead on AMC's website and I get an unending loop of the opening commercial. So I download the torrent, no problems at all. Just be sure you're using a good VPN service that doesn't keep logs. I've had my Internet shut off before for downloading copy written material.

Joshua Gore · 9 March 2014 - 19:55

On my PC, I keep getting to the point where it says I'm just one click away and then my computer freezes... lol... Hopefully, everyone at my office is having the same problem tonight.

Michael Lark · 9 March 2014 - 19:52

Cannot log on in Dallas, TX through computer (FF or Chrome) or XBox. Well done HBO, well done.

Andy Thurston · 9 March 2014 - 19:49

Down across my Xbox, PC, Macbook Pro, iPAd, iPhone, and my friend's Macbook Pro

Joshua Gore · 9 March 2014 - 19:42

I keep trying to log in to HBO Go through Internet Explorer and it keeps buffering. After 10 minutes, it takes me to the home screen. When I click on a video, it freezes.

Tim Wilder · 9 March 2014 - 19:38

I can't log in through the app or through the website. wanted to watch true detective but looks like I am waiting since the tv is in use.

A.j. Gamble · 9 March 2014 - 19:31

For the $10/mo for xbox live, $50 cell phone and the $100 mo for cable and net and to have none of these work is frustrating as f#!k.

Jezze Boya · 9 March 2014 - 19:25

I'm in PA and still cant get on via Computer or Xbox. Xbpx just says "authenticating..." and Computer says "fatal error". ;/

Jim Otto · 9 March 2014 - 19:22

HBOgo down on Apple TV & iPad. Need to watch second half of episode 7 before finale. Comcast ON Demand works - HBOgo is no Go. - Just spins on accessing HBO Go...

Trey Evans · 9 March 2014 - 19:17

HBO GO still down in South Carolina... it's 10:17pm... Keeps saying "Retrieving" and "Please wait"

Jason Miller · 9 March 2014 - 19:16

Gay... how hard is it to anticipate your audience for a season finale!? Can't wait for GoT, hopefully will not happen.

Gabriel Parra · 9 March 2014 - 19:10

Missing the season finale of True Detective, now what am I suppose to do? Study for my exam tomorrow morning?

Savannah Gray · 9 March 2014 - 19:06

HBO go has been down since 8pm central time. I'm also getting the fatal error. Can't load hbo go on my laptop or through the app on my ipad.

Kerry Christy · 9 March 2014 - 19:06

hbogo won't load. is the server down.. I have direct tv streaming through roku

Richard Schuldt · 9 March 2014 - 19:01

Down and out! Can't register device and Xbox screen Spins and Spins~!

London Morris · 9 March 2014 - 19:00

Watching the finale right now. Wow! Marty has ass cancer! No wonder he talked about it so much

Than Ball · 9 March 2014 - 19:00

HBO: you do realize I'm paying for this service instead of just stealing it right? I'm paying you and you're failing.

Vigilante Wines · 9 March 2014 - 18:58

Hbogo is totally down I guess the season finale of True Detective brought their servers to there knees.

Brenda Marchetti · 9 March 2014 - 18:55

I am trying to access my series and it is stuck 'beachballing' as it were on 'Accessing HBO GO'

Wendy Larish · 9 March 2014 - 18:53

DOWN. ^^*&^^&*((. Wish HBO would stick with program development and get out of the delivery business. They totally suck at it.

Cody Gibson · 9 March 2014 - 18:52

Got a sneaking suspension it'll work the minute True Detective is over...

Patrick Mattei · 9 March 2014 - 18:49

It's down :( keeps asking ot register my xbox, and the website just keep loading

Patrick Smith · 9 March 2014 - 18:35

It's very slow but eventually load the page. Episode 8 is listed on the front page for True Detective but nothing happens when you click play. At one point it looked like it was going to load, but then froze and gave "fatal error."

I would imagine it's better to just wait a few hours..
