Can't Access eBay UK - Troubleshooting Instructions

If the site is UP but you cant access the page, try one of the below solutions:

Browser Related Problems

Force a full refresh for the site. This can be achieved by pressing CTRL + F5 keys at the same time on your favourite browser (Firefox, Chrome, Explorer, etc.)

Clear the temporary cache and cookies on your browser to make sure that you have the most recent version of the web page. For instructions choose your browser :

Fix DNS Problems

A Domain Name System (DNS) allows a site IP address (192.168.x.x) to be identified with words (*.com) in order to be remembered more easily, like a phonebook for websites. This service is usually provided by your ISP.

Clear your local DNS cache to make sure that you grab the most recent cache that your ISP has. For Windows - (Start > Command Prompt > type "ipconfig /flushdns" and hit enter). For details choose your operating system :

If you can access a website at office or from a 3G network yet it's not working on your computer, it is a good idea to use an alternative DNS service other than your ISPs. OpenDNS or Google Public DNS are both excellent and free public DNS services.

Check our help page for step-by-step instructions on how to change your DNS.

I shall be contacting eBay tomorrow asking to whom I send the invoice for any cancelled purchases. I wonder if they'll make a pro-rata refund of my monthly Business Seller fees? Fat chance!

There are DNS and routing issues for BT and Virgin and many other ISP's. Ebay is not down as I am using it via another ISP. Ebay app or your mobile device browser will also work if you turn off wireless and use your mobile data network.

Can confirm that if you use EBay App on phones, you can access it if you turn off WiFi and use your cellular signal. EBay are saying that it is not their problem (Even though it should be) They say that it is the fault of the internet service providers like BT, Sky etc...
Just hope they get it sorted out between them all, this really does effect people who rely on this to make money to put food on your table.

To those of you using the Chrome Browser, install Zenmate and this will give you access to 5 proxy servers. London, New York, and Kowloon will give you perfect access to Ebay all sites. Hope this helps.

I can't access eBay using Virgin, but did access the eBay using 3G from my phone. That way I could answer a few customers queries, but not much else.
I also called eBay support and reported it, and suggest others do too. He didn't seem to realise that several people can't get in, he told me it's 1 or 2!

Here are eBay phone numbers to get through to them, you will need to know your account details to get through to talk to someone:

EBAY is typical of all companies that get too big and do not care for anything but profit. When a company loses its interest in its customers it has lost it's soul!

I have been sat since 9am trying to access eBay to get customers orders out from our company account, and still no access. eBay is down in the UK, America, France and Germany and those are the only sites I have tried. All our listings are buy it now, however I feel sorry for those whose auction style listings are ending now. That's simply not fair as we all know a lot of last minute bidding takes place. Check this link to see what everyone else thinks > http://www.isitdownrightnow.com/ebay.co.uk.html

This simply should not happen if a company has proper backup servers in place. I would expect this from a proper professional company.

David Redmile · 12 August 2014 - 02:13

Seems like my decision last week to not renew any of my listings was a good one, as I'll be able to sell them at the car boot market with NONE OF THE ASSOCIATED HASSLE THAT GOES WITH SELLING ON EBAY.

NO INR Scammers
No SNAD
No eBay/Paypal fee's
No STUPID Defects for providing excellent customer service
NO HASSLE

Ebay is now suffering from is called "Mission Creep" and is now just interested with getting into bed with the International retailers, problem is ebay, when they realise that you are a joke then they'll drop you like a hot potato, by by then you'll have lost all of your SME's that made the site what was.

David Petherbridge · 12 August 2014 - 02:07

For the millions of pounds eBay take from it's customers each month you would think they would have back-up systems. For small companies like me who rely on eBay for business, this is not good. I have been using eBay for over 5 years now and have not even received an e-mail to advise the current situation. This really is appalling service end even worse customer service.
eBay should give all their customers a month off paying their fees for this situation.....

Ebay is broken in more ways than just merely offline for a few minutes/ hours, eBay are hiding the fact they are hemorrhaging sellers out of their business at an alarming rate. DO NOT USE EBAY you saw it here first folks!

I can find my items for sale whilst not logged in, but if I click on then it tells me item no longer available. Can't get in touch with them as they have posted "we are making some changes we will be back soon" on their customer support page, what they really mean is "it's broken and we are running around like headless chickens looking for a fix, but we don't want to talk to you cos you are all going to be mad at us"...

Ebay has been behaving oddly for the last hour or two, problems logging in (password/user rejected) on two accounts, when it is logged in you can't use it, I just missed two auctions due to it. I got the same message as another user when I tried to call them, looks like a major failure. I hope they are going to void and re-start all the auctions free!

Can now sign into .co.uk but site showing signs of being flakey. Can't view bidders list (I'm selling) - says the item is no longer valid. But the normal page for the item is OK so I'm just hoping that the system is taking new bids and will close my auctions on time. Not great for customer confidence - no news from ebay if there's a problem!

Just managed to place a bid on a mac pro for £100. I was agreeing with you all, but if I win this at that price thanks to this problem, go on ebay! keep the problem going on for a while!

Just to Clarify, Ebays HOME page may be UP and Running, but a majority of the Auction Pages and Search facilities are still DOWN. The site Will go Back Off-Line, and come back as they try to rectify the problems they are currently facing.

I am encountering the same problem as well. I tried calling 0800 3583229 but got message saying 'Due to unforseen circumstances, we are unable to take your call right now" I used to work on an IT Service Desk and can imagine the panic ebay's IT department are going through right now

This has cost my company £100s in sales this morning. Just hope those same customers come back again this afternoon, assuming eBay is back up and running by then...

O.K. Just tried again and it's kind of half back up, enough to be able to see your ebay orders although some functions still not working. Don't know for how long though.

Ebay.com France Germany Canada Spain Ireland and Australia have all been down as well this morning. Surly eBay has back on their backups and have a plan in place so that a major update could be rolled back if something went seriously wrong. Is this maintenance or have they been hacked?

What the f... been trying all morning to get onto e-bay. Keeps saying either password or user id incorrect tried all sorts to get on and cant. E-bay could have at least put some sort of message up to inform people of the problem, Der

Just returned to Ebay after getting hack off with them. Hasn't changed has it? I now also use RMWeb, Ebid, Folksy, etc. Better fees, less hassle, no moronic staff. If everybody upsticks and moved on, Ebay would finally twig they are not the only player in the game. Citizens, vote with your feet!

As you guys say cannot even LOG ON to our business site, cannot call as automated message saying 'due to unforeseen circumstances...' loss of sales and not even a comment from ebay - GREAT thanks Ebay!

Same here up in Scotland - keep getting password wrong. I did get into it briefly through a link in an ebay message but soon - it asked for my password again and back to square one.

Something going on with a number of websites - google didn't work for a short time earlier - maybe a wider problem than just ebay (don't trust ebay by the way keeps going down and coming up again so don't start anything crucial)

I just tried to phone ebay to find out when things will be back to normal. HOWEVER... there is an auto message saying 'ebay cannot take any calls right now and to go onto help section on your ebay page'! Ermmmm... no apologies or reasons why ebay is down and what a stupid message when you cant get into ebay in the first place! NUMPTYS!

Micheal Johnson · 23 August 2013 - 02:45

"Your item will sell" I highly doubt that eBay I really do, sellers who's auctions have ended during this maintenance should demand compensation! I will.

it could be a Dos attack -they love doing it on Friday knowing a) less staff around and b) leading up to the weekend where potentially know ones in the office.
