Fix DNS Problems

A Domain Name System (DNS) allows a site IP address (192.168.x.x) to be identified with words (*.com) in order to be remembered more easily, like a phonebook for websites. This service is usually provided by your ISP.

Clear your local DNS cache to make sure that you grab the most recent cache that your ISP has. For Windows - (Start > Command Prompt > type "ipconfig /flushdns" and hit enter). For details choose your operating system :

If you can access a website at office or from a 3G network yet it's not working on your computer, it is a good idea to use an alternative DNS service other than your ISPs. OpenDNS or Google Public DNS are both excellent and free public DNS services.

Check our help page for step-by-step instructions on how to change your DNS.

Day two now with no Ancestry DNA... This website says it is up. Hmmm. I am wondering if anyone else is having issues? Or possibly is it because I am not in the US?

For most of the day each time I try to access Ancestry DNA, page never loads. I can not access "Last Viewed", "Your DNA Results Summary" or "Y-DNA and mtDNA results". But hey, if I want to buy another test, that link works! No problems with the tree side of the house.

DNA.ancestry.com is down for me, but this analysis says it is up. Second report as wondering why it did not show up on FACEBOOK.

Holli Joren · 14 April 2016 - 17:11

The website is also down for me. Clicking on the "DNA" tab just gives me "Learn about DNA" and doesn't show my test information. I also can't view my DNA matches from known links. It just keeps attempting to load.

Odd, but when I originally went to this web site and clicked on "Order Now", everything worked perfectly. Have yet to be able to login again to activate the kits I purchased. Can't find a way to contact ancestrydna.com to complain or get my money back. Huge rip off!

Christee Kee · 31 October 2015 - 21:58

Linda, I was having the same problem, since last night actually. I think it's a problem with Chrome since that's what I was using. It's working for me normally on Internet Explorer.

Ancestry DNA will not load - on PC, can't even get to the page at all. On iPad and Android phone, can see list of matches, but cannot open any of them. Frustrating. Since 8 am this morning, Pacific time. (Now almost 10 am.)

Gythe Snorriwif · 7 October 2015 - 21:44

Trying to load page to purchase DNA kit but won't load. Tried two different PC's and iPad. None work.

Not loading at all. says connection was reset. grrrrr

Dennis Norwood · 15 July 2014 - 11:50

It worked for a bit when I updated the google app, then quit again and if I use firefox it works great. The problem I have is the Linux OS with Google is the box that has issues with the dna ancestry page, but when I use a windows machine with google the problem does not exist. I guess google and ancestry don't linke Linux! :)

Dennis Norwood · 14 July 2014 - 15:38
United States · CenturyLink · Chrome 35.0 on Linux

I noticed in the upper right corner of the browser that the three horizontal bars were red, there was an app out of date and I updated it and it started to work. I guess if an app is out of date, regardless of the app it will prevent the dna page from loading.

Truitt Bradly · 4 May 2014 - 12:51

Extremely slow and non existence responses. It is a waste of time to even try.

David Abigt · 29 December 2013 - 21:40
United States · Time Warner Cable

It has gone down for me the last 5 nights in a row. After spending time trying across multiple networks, devices and browsers and getting randome results, I'm thinking their load balancer is point people at down or crsahed servers in a cluster. Just a guess from the evidence. BTW downforeveryoneorjustme.com shows them down right now and you show them up..

Jim Smith · 27 November 2013 - 23:53
United States · Charter Communications

I can't load the page. Infrequently i can get to my list of DNA tests but that's as far as it will go. Even that won't reload.

Edit: Turns out it is only on Chrome. Safari loads it fine. This is a new issue for me and clearing my cache will mean loss of already clicked links as well which I don't want to do because it will effect my research atm.
