Fix DNS Problems

A Domain Name System (DNS) allows a site IP address (192.168.x.x) to be identified with words (*.com) in order to be remembered more easily, like a phonebook for websites. This service is usually provided by your ISP.

Clear your local DNS cache to make sure that you grab the most recent cache that your ISP has. For Windows - (Start > Command Prompt > type "ipconfig /flushdns" and hit enter). For details choose your operating system :

Service on Cape Ann is dropping so often & so hard this afternoon, you'd think Comcast Internet equipment (& whoever is running their NOC) is inebriated.

Just listened to a Comcast VP blow her political gas around on C-SPAN about how the US needs to subsidize Comcast to bring internet to low income customers. They want more $$s, but aren't giving stable service to customers paying almost $200/month for high speed Inet (without premium tv stations).

There is always something going wrong with Comcast. I have not been able to open my email for 24 hours. I called and spent over an hour on the phone with someone who was unable to help. Then I was told someone would call me with 24-72 hours. Really? I am seriously thinking about getting of Comcast. I pay this enormous bill for bad service.

For the last couple of days ( March 13, 14, 2014 ) my television has been experiencing interrupted service. I will hear a clicking noise and then the picture disappears into a green bar or screen, sound is disrupted, then the picture returns and pixilates into dots. Very annoying. Our internet is up but we've had no television channels for over 2 hours. The website says there are no problems & we can connect to other sites on the web, just have no television and no reason why other than the fact that it's raining or a butterfly flapped its lips in the 3rd world country they outsource technical "support" to after 5pm local time.

I've been trying to get into my online email account all afternoon here in Maryland and its still not working. I can sign-in and it takes me to the email "cover page" but I keep getting a message that says "Sorry, we were unable to load your email and voicemail. Please try refreshing your browser in a few minutes." On the rare times when refreshing does seem to work and I go to click Email and the stupid link sends me back to Comcast's home page!!! Back up and running in Michigan. I deleted my primary email account in Microsoft Windows Mail because it was the only one that seemed affected. I figured this may have had something to do with Comcast not supporting Port 25. Since they have been working on this for some time and outings have been going on since March, which is when they began their crusade, I decided to delete and create the account over due to a corrupted account.

Under Mail Account Properties I added the following:

Under General Tab - ""
Under Servers Tab -" POP3"
Incoming mail (POP3) -""
Outgoing mail (SMTP) - ""
"Checked my server requires authentication box"
Opened "Settings" and selected "Use same settings as my incoming mail server"
Under Advanced Tab
Server Port Numbers- Outgoing mail (SMTP) "465" "Leave SSL unchecked"
Incoming mail (POP 3) "110" "Leave SSL unchecked"

I tried all the other outgoing and incoming port numbers suggested online, and checked and unchecked the required SSL boxes. This combination is the same as what was in my original account before the email quit working. After a new account is created, shut down the browser and email program before checking for mail.

Comcast's e-Mail servers (POP3) are coming back online in certain areas. Also, try for access. Also, try resolving Incoming (POP3) and Outgoing (SMTP) servers to see if you get and results matching those IP's. Note to windows users: see the above DNS cache instructions on how to clear your Comcast ISP's cache.
