Fix DNS Problems

A Domain Name System (DNS) allows a site IP address (192.168.x.x) to be identified with words (*.com) in order to be remembered more easily, like a phonebook for websites. This service is usually provided by your ISP.

Clear your local DNS cache to make sure that you grab the most recent cache that your ISP has. For Windows - (Start > Command Prompt > type "ipconfig /flushdns" and hit enter). For details choose your operating system :

If you can access a website at office or from a 3G network yet it's not working on your computer, it is a good idea to use an alternative DNS service other than your ISPs. OpenDNS or Google Public DNS are both excellent and free public DNS services.

At the bottom of the View and manage Office Add-ins, make sure the Manage box shows COM Add-ins, and then choose Go.

As a precaution, when the COM Add-ins listing of your current add-ins opens, do one of the following:

Manually record the title of every selected add-in listed under Available Add-ins.

or

Take a screenshot of the property sheet and save the image to a location of your choice.

After you've captured the titles of the selected add-ins, clear all selected check boxes, and then choose OK.

CAUTION: Click a check box to clear it. Don't select an add-in and choose Remove. If you have administrator rights, you could actually delete the add-in. For this troubleshooting exercise, you want to disable, not delete, an add-in.At the bottom of the View and manage Office Add-ins, make sure the Manage box shows COM Add-ins, and then choose Go.

First, reinstall LiveUpdate using the original installation media. After installing LiveUpdate, reinstall Endpoint Protection from original media. After both products are reinstalled, test the installation.Establish an Internet connection, and then launch LiveUpdate. The application should now be able to connect to the Symantec servers and obtain online updates. If you continue to receive initialization errors, contact your Symantec Enterprise customer support representative.
