Can't Access FreeForums.org - Troubleshooting Instructions

If the site is UP but you cant access the page, try one of the below solutions:

Browser Related Problems

Force a full refresh for the site. This can be achieved by pressing CTRL + F5 keys at the same time on your favourite browser (Firefox, Chrome, Explorer, etc.)

Fix DNS Problems

A Domain Name System (DNS) allows a site IP address (192.168.x.x) to be identified with words (*.com) in order to be remembered more easily, like a phonebook for websites. This service is usually provided by your ISP.

Clear your local DNS cache to make sure that you grab the most recent cache that your ISP has. For Windows - (Start > Command Prompt > type "ipconfig /flushdns" and hit enter). For details choose your operating system :

If you can access a website at office or from a 3G network yet it's not working on your computer, it is a good idea to use an alternative DNS service other than your ISPs. OpenDNS or Google Public DNS are both excellent and free public DNS services.

Check our help page for step-by-step instructions on how to change your DNS.

And it's down again - seems to be happening around the same time each morning (UK time) at the moment. It wouldn't be quite so frustrating if only someone would tell us WHY, and for how long. All that's coming through so far is okay, there was a huge problem and they worked for days on end to fix it, then said they had, only evidently, the fix isn't holding. :(

Yeah, I'm done with freeforums. I'm moving. It's been down more often that not the past month, and I've lost way too much because of it

FFS, down again? This is getting ridiculous.

One of the freeforums admins has now said, "An overloaded PDU resulted in a power interruption during a routine maintenance. The databases going off line caused data corruption. While most servers were brought back up very quickly, the ongoing repairs are responsible for issues such as server lags and slowness."

Mark Carter · 15 October 2015 - 22:16
· · Firefox 41.0 on Windows

Look here http://samporpass.com/index.php?board=22.0 for access to updates about how the repairs to freeforums are going. There was such a big breakdown their own help forums weren't even working, so they've set up this other place to fill the gap.

I'm having similar problems with my forum at freeforums.org. The URL pings normally but does not display any content whatsoever when I try to access it via a browser.

Mark Carter · 13 October 2015 - 22:39
· · Firefox 41.0 on Windows

Once again, one of my forums is working, but so slowly it often times out, and the other one won't load far enough to show any pages at all.

Mark Carter · 13 October 2015 - 15:22

Freeforums.org has been either very slow, or down, for me for about 48 hours now. It doesn't make sense, as at times, whether it was reported 'down' here or not, one of the forums I use was actually working, but the other one wasn't.

Jess Wasylyk · 13 October 2015 - 07:25

April 26th, 2014 (before Midnight) FreeForums.org lost their server and so all forums went offline. They were informed only minutes after this happened and replied that hardware has to be replaced and they are doing their best to replace the hardware. They kept saying it would only be a few hours, but please give them a few days. All forums should be back online by Wednesday! Nothing was lost or erased, it's only the connection. All forums will be back shortly.

seems to be down more often lately :/

Michael Slaunwhite · 4 June 2013 - 20:39

This is really not the greatest service around. They claim 91% up time, it seems lately that it is only up about 35 percent of the time. I can't see how they would get new paying members by showing they can't handle the work load.... Sure they offer up some great options, but it needs to be up, and running. Sure a car may look incredible, but it's worthless if it doesn't run. Anyway, I can't see myself spending any money on freeforums.org, I mean why would I when they can't keep it up, and running.

But, those who are paid for premium services, etc. they are looks good when freeforums.org is down :) FreeForums is one of the best forum providers, and I really don't know why they don't announce shutdown time or send an email to those users with boards an email with info (and updates) :c

Down again in Australia, 2nd time was fine today, Seems to get overloaded at peak times. OMG this is a pain. Maybe before I do too much more I should change over to another forum system.
