We have tried pinging CA Department of Motor Vehicles website using our server and the website returned the above results. If dmv.ca.gov is down for us too there is nothing you can do except waiting. Probably the server is overloaded, down or unreachable because of a network problem, outage or a website maintenance is in progress...

Can't Access CA Department of Motor Vehicles - Troubleshooting Instructions

If the site is UP but you cant access the page, try one of the below solutions:

Browser Related Problems

Force a full refresh for the site. This can be achieved by pressing CTRL + F5 keys at the same time on your favourite browser (Firefox, Chrome, Explorer, etc.)

Clear the temporary cache and cookies on your browser to make sure that you have the most recent version of the web page. For instructions choose your browser :

Fix DNS Problems

A Domain Name System (DNS) allows a site IP address (192.168.x.x) to be identified with words (*.com) in order to be remembered more easily, like a phonebook for websites. This service is usually provided by your ISP.

Clear your local DNS cache to make sure that you grab the most recent cache that your ISP has. For Windows - (Start > Command Prompt > type "ipconfig /flushdns" and hit enter). For details choose your operating system :

If you can access a website at office or from a 3G network yet it's not working on your computer, it is a good idea to use an alternative DNS service other than your ISPs. OpenDNS or Google Public DNS are both excellent and free public DNS services.

Check our help page for step-by-step instructions on how to change your DNS.

(Oh my f#!king god) 4th post

WOW JUST WOW.......
So ill reply to my comment again.
I had written a complaint and replied to it with a follow up
The initial complaint:
This website is garbage. It always says a site is up when it isnt. Ive been trying to get my H6 drivers report for days and the DMV wont work. This garbage site says dmv.ca.gov is down just for me, whereas http://www.websitedown.info says its down, period. Im never using this site again because I spent an hour trying to figure out what was wrong on my end, even going so far as to call comcast and schedule an appointment with a tech. I HAVE TO PAY TO CANCEL IT! This Website has lost a visitor permanently!

The follow up complaint:
Also as a side note I had to post this 3 times because this shit site cant even handle a FaceBook post
---------------------------------------------------------------
I dont understand why this site would make comments on a post appear as the main comment in the main feed but its no suprise considering this website is dedicated to testing for site conectivity and cant even do that...

I hate this site, you should too

The reason I had to do this a 4th time is because this website messed up my formatting and garbled part of a paragraph and put it in a random spot.

It took several times last night to renew a vehicle license. It would freeze and time out. I tried my home charter internet, my mobile wifi and a hotel internet so I think it was the web site. Tonight I tried to check in and it is still running slow. I got logged in and it hasn't brought up my info screen while I've searched for the isitdownrightnow.com web site and typed this message... yep, still waiting.

Fortunately my renewal is not due for a month, I pity anyone trying to renew tonight the site is very slow, and if you do get on it to renew your registration, it hangs. Guess they want anyone who waits til the last minute to pay a penalty. Noticed two months ago also, probably system overload to many people waiting to the last minute

It's time to privatize DMV. This is the worse running organization in the US. If you want to be tortured just visit the DMV. For the same budget, please hire a private firm to do the work of DMV and fire all these gov't employees. How do we get that on the next CA voting bill?

Loan Nguyen · 10 June 2014 - 08:59
United States · University of California, Los Angeles · Internet Explorer 10.0 on Windows

I think it's down purposely to let 3rd party sites make money. It stalled at Step 1 on the Renewal link. I tried it 20 times since 6/9 to 6/10 without being able to get in using IE, Chrome, and FoxFi. However, I googled and test the first site I saw, www.cartagz, it went through smoothly within less than 2 minutes. However, the fee is $29.00. If the site is technically down, nobody can access them, period. DMV employees get paid by tax money but it doesn't work for the public interest.

Samantha Nagy · 8 June 2014 - 19:18

Apparently there has been a security breach on dmv.ca.gov so I am assuming that is the reason for the website not accepting credit card information at the moment.

Went to the DMV to renew my license Torrance CA on 5/5/2014. I was at the DMV at 1:15pm, at around 2:45pm the DMV person announced that the computer system was down state wide for new license, renewal license and testing for license would not be up for a 1/2 hr. At 3:30pm I was called to the window and asked if I wanted to schedule an appoint but could not get one until June 11th. I decided not to make the appointment and waited for the system to come up. I left before 5pm and the system was still not up and running. I want to add, the DMV was extremely busy this day. Question: was the computer system really down state wide on this day or was this a way to send people home?

The DMV website is currently experiencing technical difficulties. However, all online services are available. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience.

Ditto for the DMV website being down: www.dmv.ca.gov just continually says "Waiting...". In Internet Explorer, the perpetual "Circle" for loading is appearing. NEED TO PAY MY REGISTRATION! >:-O

Totally failing right now. Tried ctrl F5 reload, tried ipconfig /flushdns, tried different browsers, tried ping... all results in failures.

This is the error I am experiencing:
Error 500--Internal Server Error - From RFC 2068 Hypertext Transfer Protocol -- HTTP/1.1: 10.5.1 500 Internal Server Error
The server encountered an unexpected condition which prevented it from fulfilling the request.

Error 500--Internal Server Error
From RFC 2068 Hypertext Transfer Protocol -- HTTP/1.1:

what does that mean?

Just pay more taxes so that they can keep the website up. Notice that if you are late paying your registration fees, you get penalized. If DMV is down, you get penalized.
