We have tried pinging Ancestry Canada website using our server and the website returned the above results. If ancestry.ca is down for us too there is nothing you can do except waiting. Probably the server is overloaded, down or unreachable because of a network problem, outage or a website maintenance is in progress...

Can't Access Ancestry Canada - Troubleshooting Instructions

If the site is UP but you cant access the page, try one of the below solutions:

Browser Related Problems

Force a full refresh for the site. This can be achieved by pressing CTRL + F5 keys at the same time on your favourite browser (Firefox, Chrome, Explorer, etc.)

Clear the temporary cache and cookies on your browser to make sure that you have the most recent version of the web page. For instructions choose your browser :

Fix DNS Problems

A Domain Name System (DNS) allows a site IP address (192.168.x.x) to be identified with words (*.com) in order to be remembered more easily, like a phonebook for websites. This service is usually provided by your ISP.

Clear your local DNS cache to make sure that you grab the most recent cache that your ISP has. For Windows - (Start > Command Prompt > type "ipconfig /flushdns" and hit enter). For details choose your operating system :

If you can access a website at office or from a 3G network yet it's not working on your computer, it is a good idea to use an alternative DNS service other than your ISPs. OpenDNS or Google Public DNS are both excellent and free public DNS services.

Check our help page for step-by-step instructions on how to change your DNS.

It still is not working through FTM 3! I can get on the website, but FTM says I'm not connected the the internet! How crazy is that? I bought FTM so that I could easily work between the Ancestry site and FTM, and now I'm stymied. No-one has answered my plea for a reason, a fix, or an apology. We're heading into day 4 here on BC's West Coast. I think I need a rebate!!!

It has been done most of the day in British Columbia. I did manage to finally get into Ancestry.com but it has problems as well. Anything linked to Ancestry including Rootsweb and Find A Grave are unavailable as well.

If you have a subscription for more than just Canadian records (such as World Deluxe) you can log into ancestry.COM, which is back up, but is experiencing problems in displaying records.

In Northern Ontario, I haven't been able to access ancestry.ca since last evening. My computer diagnostics say the website is online but can not be accessed.

I still can't log on to ancestry.ca. To anyone who has just signed up, I have been using ancestry.ca for 4 years and this is the first time I've experienced something like this. There are times when they do site maintenance but I've never seen it like this.

Joan McKenzie · 17 June 2014 - 16:41
Canada · Rogers Cable · Chrome 35.0 on Windows

I could not log in last night, today or now. Yesterday the check said it was down for everybody, but today is says it is just me. That's two days out of 4 since I signed up.

I called and talked to them about another issue which they fixed for me but the person I talked to said the problem is persisting and they are trying their best to get it done quickly. We know they are but it has to happen just when that name you wanted to delve into - disappeared! :) I'm on the west coast also and having the same connecting problems. Will mow the lawn instead. :(

ancestry.ca is still down for me on the west coast of canada even though this site says it is available. not sure what to do?

Reagh Campbell Stewart · 17 June 2014 - 13:36

I am having the very same issues as Joanne Dumas Peterson.

Joanne Dumas Peterson · 17 June 2014 - 12:55
Canada · Telus Communications · Chrome 35.0 on Windows

Although messages are saying that Ancestry.ca is now available I cannot access it. The sign-in page comes up quickly but when I try to sign in I'm told that the web page is not available. I've cleared all my history and cookies so am starting afresh. I know that the technicians are working diligently to rectify the problem but also wanted them to know what I had tried and the result obtained.

I have been able to access my tree via Ancestry.com. Again, the sign-in page for this site comes up quickly. I am able to sign in albeit slowly. The photos/documents for my tree are not showing up.

Like everyone else, I'm frustrated but wanted to tell Ancestry that I know you are trying your best to get us all back on-line and back to our research.

I have photos that appear to be 'missing' on every person that I have checked so far. Is the sight down? If not, then I sure hope my pictures are not gone!
